No better time to visit Chicago than this time of year especially if you can catch the good weather days. Spent 4 days there last week with the kids around a concert one of them wanted to attend and had a great time as always. Spent one of the days looking at condos again as we’re still thinking about buying something to spend a little more time in the City and for our daughter to use during the summers. We’ll see where it goes.

Heading up next Thursday with my dad. Staying at River North and hitting El Che that night.  Cubs afternoon game on Friday. Need a rec for casual Italian that night.  Going to Milwaukee Saturday morning for the Brewers game.  It's a bit of a whirlwind trip, but we haven't had a chance to catch games out of town for years.

If you wanna stare at a bunch of chicks, you can go to Eataly. It’s like a mall, for cooking, with girls.

Honestly, you can probably find any mid 20s priced neighborhood spot. Rosebuds on Rush would put you close to Viagra triangle (25-30 year old women chasing divorced middle aged dudes bar area)

Wife and I looking for a small hotel in the loop, I know there are hundreds, any strong suggestions?

It'll be the first time in prob over ten years I visit and not do an air bnb so I don't mind staying somewhere nice.

Last time we did a hotel we did this. Nothing fancy, but solid, and in a great location. You can find something more upper end for sure. We just always prefer to find a nice, and reasonable place and spend our money on food and other things.

Italian Village is a fun place.

Eat at one of Rick Bayless’ high end Mexican joints. I’m partial to Topolobampo.

Stephanie Izard’s Girl and the Goat is mighty great.

Bar Mar by Jose Andre’s. Killer seafood
Topolobampo is fantastic. Love that place, and get the mole.

So Monday night I’m going to http://www.chicagocutsteakhouse.com/.

Edit - Gibsons Italia is what is booked up.

Damn.  I can likely help.  Just lmk.

Did the traditional rager on the boat for the air and water show yesterday.  Will be more chill today and enjoy from the balcony.  Probably the last month I’m here a lot before Miami and I’ll miss summer Chi for sure.  Still think it’s the best city in the country for these couple months.

We caught a Cubs game this past May and ate  here afterwards ( I think it was 1.5 mile away from Wrigley - 30 minute walk).  Best neopolitan pizza i’ve ever had .  Casual- reservations are needed to sit inside and they reserve the patio for first come first serve.

Thompson and Viceroy should check a lot of boxes for you. Stayed at both and would recommend. They are a little north but in a great location near Gibson’s. You might need to look a little outside the loop to find smaller hotels.

No lie. Just got home from a wonderful evening in River North. It almost feels like fall.

chitowndoc thanks for the offer, I may take you up on it soon.

Glad you enjoyed.  Safe travels and lmk anytime

No doubt about it. Was just there for Lolla. The party in Wrigleyville after beating the Redbirds was something else. Like better than Lolla

Hilarious having my 24 year old dadsplaining Lollapalooza to me. I’m “back when I was 19 there was a band called Jane’s Addiction…”

Now they have Chappell Roan.

Will second this. It might be the very best pizza I've ever had in my life. I certainly can't think of anything better...

@ChiTownDoc - can you recommend Pizza for the unwashed masses and occasional visitors?

Back in the late 80s, 90s, and early 2000s, Malnati’s, Gino’s, and Due were “go to” places.  Even by that point, Uno had a chain feel (well, because they were a chain at that point).  Took my kid to Malnati’s in 2022 and it had the chain, “pay the tourist tax” feel.

What do you recommend?

Pequod’s and not even close.  But I hate deep dish.

Another vote for Pequod's if you must.

Lou's, Giordano's, Gino's is more like a casserole than pizza.

In Chicago the week after next and have work dinners at Il Porcellino and Tre Dita. Never been to either of them.

I do like 3 dinners a week for meetings at Tre Dita.  It’s fucking amazing.  Miracle I’m not 400 pounds.

All I’ve done is eat this week, my God what a splendid city for foodies.

Hotel Chicago has been great; it’s the renovated office building part of the Marina City complex. Marriott Autograph. Huge, nice rooms.

Anyone have brunch spot recommendations in River North? We’re staying at the Hyatt Regency.

Confirmed finally visiting Chi town first time since before covid.

I got reservations for dinner at Monteverde.  Sounds absurdly bougie and delicious and I can't fucking wait.   Anyone been?   Suggestions appreciated.

Any brunch recommendations?  Still need to book a couple more meals.

I can't wait to eat in this town lol.

May be worth mentioning - if you remember Abe Kanan from the Stern show...He has a podcast and a FB page - The Slob Show. I'm not on FB but I've heard Abe talk about it. The page is apparently packed full of (mostly) Chicago slob show listener recommendations, ranging from expensive to dives.

Favorite spot lately is Obelisk.  It’s possible to get in for brunch because it’s newer for them.  Dinner a hard rez.  Imo brunch was better anyway.
Tre Dita if you can for a dinner.

I have missed Monteverde multiple times and have been told I missed an insane meal.  Will try to get there before I end up mostly in Miami for the winter.

Obelisk mentioned above or Longman and Eagle if you can head a bit further north.

Still best damn city in the country for these few weeks, imo.  Especially if you’re really into food.

Bad ass.  Menu looks legit.  Great thing is I'm right on time for the rolling 30d rezy bookings.

Gonna book for brunch.

Appreciate it doc!

Family style ragu is worth it @ Monteverde, though I haven’t been since the pandemic.

Eater Chicago is a good resource that helps me visualize where everything is located.
