Although it seems like Isner has no shot at the moment. He is on last breaths

At this point, "fumes" would be an improvement. I have no idea how he's keeping his serve.

What is that 4 straight times on Isner's serve he goes down 0-30 and comes back to win the game.

Yep, and then Anderson comes to serve and dispatches him in less than 2 minutes. It's almost like Isner is just hoping Anderson fucks up on his serve.

Near the end of the match, during a changeover, the camera showed Kevin Anderson sucking down one of those energy gel packs.

The camera looked over at John Isner and he's just grabbing a bottle of water.

Rafa Nadal always is slurping down those gel pack. Guys in the Tour de France who are pedaling a bicycle for 5+ hours are slurping down those gel packs. If you want to compete in an endurance sport, YOU HAVE TO SUCK DOWN GEL PACKS!!!!

I have no idea how John Isner can think that he can carry on in a serve-fest if he is not sucking down gel packs. How does his "team" allow that to happen?

Maybe we missed him gel-packing-it-up, but he seemed to be in a daze in the changeover and Anderson looked totally focused.

But it was also interesting to watch the lack of any emotion that Anderson had after winning. From winning the point, to packing his stuff, to hugging Isner, to signing autographs, to answering the first 5+ questions in the interview, he was like an expressionless robot. It wasn't until talking about hitting the ball left-handed that a human being appeared on screen. Wimbledon will change it's 5th set policy, but they'll probably have a tie-breaker at ~12 ALL, not at 6 ALL. Which is fine, but something has to be done.

Looks like #1 in the world Djokovic. Healthy Djokovic is just another roadblock to the #nextGen guys who can't get it done. Before long Murray will be healthy and it may be up to the #nextnextGen to actually start winning tournaments.

No there doesn't. Long 5th sets are part of Wimbledon lore, who says they have to be removed? Would anyone really have preferred Federer-Roddick 2009 to end in a measly tiebreak?

Djokovic's ROS and ability to push points with his defense is just insane. Rafa has to steal this set and get a postponed match in the sun tomorrow to stand a chance or this could be straights. Nadal's 1st serve % right now is just dogshit. Djoker hovering near 80% and Rafa around 60%.

I'm okay with the FINALS going on indefinitely, but a middle of the tournament match that goes 20+ games in the 5th really doesn't benefit anyone.

Oh, they are?

I didn't realize that. Thanks.

Also, THE PLAYERS & THE BROADCASTERS say that they have to be removed.

So the participants and the money that makes these tournaments possible. Other than that... just a large percentage of the fans.

There was a time back when all 5 sets were played without tiebreakers. Just imagine how long an Isner match would be under those old rules

That would have been absolutely miserable.

we would probably be going into the 3rd set right now.

12 all seems like a logical place to have a tiebreak.  I’m also ok with the final going until someone wins by 2 games, but that’s about the only time.

Back to the match, this is what tennis should look like.  Both guys playing well and hitting multiple solid shots in a single point.  Fuck that serve and nothing else bs.

Obviously fatigue but also showing some class to a fellow competitor after a hard fought match.

Don't know why but I just never have cared much for Nadal, phenomenal player.

Anderson/Isler went 99 games with 6 breaks - so without tiebreakers they could still be playing the 2nd set

Here are some stats
Set 1 -  no breaks, only 4 break points
Set 2 - no breaks, only 1 break point
Set 3 - 2 breaks on 2 break points
Set 4 - 3 breaks on 3 break points
Set 5 (50 games) - 1 break on 6 break points (Isler had 0 break points)

Overall - Anderson was 4/11 on break points and Isler was 2/5 (only 5 break points in 49 games for Isler)

9-all in the 3rd set breaker as curfew hits. They’ll finish the set.

Do they have to stay in their hotel rooms and order room service?  😀
