Borba is the one that it would be great to win. That kid can rake.

You know I really don't understand why Campbell isn't getting more draft love either. I'm not saying he's a first-rounder but not a top 200 prospect? What am I missing?

Not a prototypical outfielder from a size perspective. Probably closed to maxed out from a power standpoint. Will have to really hit at the next level to stick at a corner OF spot. He honestly might profile a little better at somewhere like 2B (where he played his freshman year).

Borba's dad is his head coach and is very well respected out in California. Has a lot of connections. I think the draft projections might be missing the mark with him. It happens when you have to evaluate and rank all these kids.

I just remember this tweet from during the regionals and I was shocked to see Campbell projected outside the top 200 prospects.

I don't really pay attention all that closely but I haven't seen much draft love about Borba. Maybe he makes it to campus.

Borba is making it, but his bat doesn’t seem College ready. Wazzu/Memphis and Flores left side. Powell and O’Dowd right side. JT, Cummings, Max OF. One more bat is found money and maybe moves Powell to DH

I think they're definitely swinging big for Mac Bingham. Somebody on IT mentioned that Bingham's 2 most recent follows on IG were the Texas One Fund and LSU baseball.

It sounds like he's attempting to get paid by someone.

The UCSB guy doesn’t seem receptive on socials. Bingham’s probably getting drafted.

Go ahead and sharpie Cummings into a top 2 spot in the order

Bingham is probably getting drafted but I think he's a fringe prospect to justify leaving. He may get more money to return.

He's arguably the top player in the portal (hit .360 in the Pac 12 last season). There's no telling what he's being offered.

I don’t think Borba had the best season with the bat this year. The potential is extremely high though. He’s probably not a walk in starter if he makes it to campus but he would push for playing time right away.

He can play both corner IF spots which is interesting.

I'm thinking they will slot Cummings into the lead-off role. 24 stolen bases in 42 games this past season and 7 stolen bases in summer league with only limited at-bats.

Cummings reminds me a lot of Duke Ellis which IMO is a really big compliment.

Texas Tech fans despise their pitching coach. I'm really surprised they haven't made a change with Matt Gardner.

I'm not a huge fan of all the coaching turnover but I'll take that any day over a coach that refuses to make obvious changes that are needed. Tech's pitching development has been suspect for years (and they're landing talent).

Draft preview from OB

TLDR Version:

Probably gone- Sykora, Gasparino, Campbell, Gordon, LBJ

We'll see- Borba, Sanders, Witt, Morehouse

50/50- Guillemette

Unknown- Porter Brown

Probably coming back- Powell and Charlie Hurley

Man if Sykora slipped that would be great. I noticed his windup isn’t always consistent before delivery, not sure if it corresponds to anything they said there or potentially tipping pitches. Just seemed strange. Certainly still needs development despite the obvious big big big time arm.

If we get Powell, Hurley, Borba, Morehouse and one of Witt/Sykora on the squad for 2024, I will feel pretty good heading into the rest of the offseason. Add in Guillemette or Brown returning and things would get really interesting.

Christ, getting Witt back would be epic. The amount of fun we can make of @shadow_operative2.0 would be legendary. Oh and it’d be great for the 2024 squad too

God I admire you

Yeah I definitely didn’t think he’d be a Friday dude come conference play or whatever, but was definitely expecting him to look a tad bit better than @ztejas hungover trying to pitch in the big 12

The veteran players who have had their eyes on the draft for three years are more likely to leave than not, imo.  Even if they get disappointed by their draft position and bonus, if the focus has been on pro ball that usually doesn't seem to change.

There are exceptions to that, but it is usually a big "miss" in draft slot.  Something like Tanner's injury could create that and maybe NIL could change it, but I'm reining in my expectations.

NIL can certainly change it but the question is to what degree.  If a player gets drafted late and is set to sign for $125k then how much over that do we need to pay in NIL to get him back to campus for one more year?  For a guy like Morehouse maybe not any more considering he would have a chance to significantly increase his draft stock but someone like Gordon may need that number doubled to stick around.

For those interested, Sixty-Four Analytics has a ranking system for transfers. They are really high on the Will Mercer addition (#24 overall transfer).

Here are rankings for other names I've seen us linked to:

Burns (#1)

Holman (#5)

Molina (#7)

Doyle (#16)-This is one of the more underrated pitchers in the portal.

Bingham (#27)-I think that's way too low.

Hainline (#29)-I think that's way too low.

Sundstrom (#70)

Another recruit to keep an eye on in the draft is Hayden Morris. He's going to have some teams interested. Listed as the #447 draft prospect from the post above by @Hookem2147

Hope he makes it to campus. Think he can be the midweek starter and a big arm out of the pen during conference play.

Update on Witt from OB. Trying not to get my hopes up but sounds like there is a real chance. Baseball Mod followed up by saying that the NIL range Witt is wanting isn’t outrageous either.

* The MLB Draft starts on Sunday and we continue to hear that RHP Tanner Witt and the UT coaching staff remain in communication about a return for the 2024 season and what that would entail. No decision has been made, but Tanner loves Texas and it sounds like he would prefer to come back for another season. Witt’s camp is still awaiting a final NIL offer from Texas ahead of a Friday deadline that they wanted the offer by.

I’m assuming no one is that concerned about his recovery and that an off season behind him he can dial it back in. If so that would be a huge (get) keep.

it would also be awesome if some money would show up for another big time bat and arm. Let’s make a serious run.

You need to be banned forever. Even the worst trolls don’t talk to me like that. Burns still is available?

He’s gotta be the guy. His stat line is crazy and great/mediocre all at the same time. K numbers are great. Walks are very good. But half his hits were for extras. His HRs really came back in line with their other starters. His ERA wasn’t great, but we’re more interested in what you can do for us than what you’ve already done.

Mods: I don’t think his post should be taken down. I think everyone needs to see what he said to someone who is one of his most ardent defenders.
