Cags threw 85 pitches on Wed but he's hardly pitched in the postseason.

Started the opener in the regional, didn't pitch in the Supers because Florida won in 2, and has only pitched 1 game at the CWS because Florida stayed in the winner's bracket. He's much fresher than Skenes.

And he isn’t very good. 52 BB in 73.1 IP is comical.

We know you slept through the entire game/thread, but please don’t bump every single post repetitively.

Expand

In the last 5 starts-

6.2 IP, 1 earned run, 9 strikeouts vs Vandy (a top 10 team most of the year)

7.0 IP, 0 earned runs, 8 strikeouts vs Kentucky (just made a Super)

1.2 IP, 2 earned runs, 3 strikeouts vs Vandy (a top 10 team most of the year)

6.0 IP, 0 earned runs, and 7 strikeouts vs Florida A&M (regionals)

4.1 IP, 1 earned run, and 4 strikeouts vs TCU (CWS)

Cags definitely has command issues at times but a 1.47 ERA in the last 5 starts = "isn't very good" against quality competition. Good to know.

Excellent non-response.

I wouldn't be surprised if Cags has command issues tomorrow and struggles. But to say "he isn't good" when he has a sub 1.50 ERA in the last 5 starts against postseason quality competition is the type of stupidity I would expect from you.

Did you just read the BB to IP stat in this thread or have you watched Cags at all this year? I know the answer.

Caglionne is a really interesting player. He has big league stuff but doesnt have the command yet. He is only a year off TJ. If he went one-way like Skenes he's probably more likely to harness that and become a big league starter.

At the plate he has huge power and bat to ball skills. But he chases too much and doesnt really walk.

Jac the hitter and Jac the pitcher both need work to be able to bring his big potential to the majors. If he focuses on one or the other and fixes his flaws he has allstar talent on either side. And really there's no guarantee focusing on one or the other will make him more likely to improve or that he cant do both and improve both.

And he looks like Madonna era Jose Canseco. Guy worth following

That was a fairly predictable result. LSU doesn't have anything after their top 2 starters.

That's interesting because I saw them shut Texas out with a couple of guys out of their bullpen pitching half the game and only giving up one hit.

But, okay.

Our lineup is nowhere near what Florida's lineup is.

Ackenhausen is a decent reliever but Florida did what an elite lineup should do against a pitcher like that as a 3rd starter. The problem for LSU yesterday is Ackenhausen was only starting his 2nd game because LSU has nobody else as a starter and they weren't going to use their top relievers (Cooper or Hurd) based on pitch counts in previous games.

That game always had ass kicking written all over it.

Funny, I didn't see anyone predict a 20 plus run win by Florida before the game.

But, okay.

I do like the side-step of the hyperbole you used to describe all of LSU's pitching staff after the two starters though.  Well done.

I didn't predict a 20 run win but I said game 2 was very advantageous for Florida after game 1.

PG 29 of this thread:

"LSU has all the momentum but game 2 was always the most advantageous match-up for Florida.  Tomorrow is likely going to be a bullpen day for LSU because they have nothing after Floyd and Skenes (who isn't pitching tomorrow)."

Also our lineup wasn’t solidified yet. Powell wasn’t even starting, Flores and Thomas looked like most freshman look in late February while GG, DC and Porter hadn’t found their grooves yet

I really don't understand how you get angry over this stuff. Why shouldn't he be able to post in a thread simply because he hasn't already?

Last night you were bitching about me posting too much. Is there a shadowoperative2.0 handbook that explains the appropriate number of posts that are allowed under your dictatorship?

I'll say I'm rooting for Florida, I question whether Skenes is "the greatest pitcher college baseball has ever seen", but I wish he had transferred to Texas instead of LSU.

I don't really feel the need to weigh in on a thread that doesn't involve Texas, even though I'm paying attention to the series.  That said, I'll try to clear my posts with you in the future, because God knows I wouldn't want to upset some random jackass who offers almost no content but infinite snark.

Chat GPT's take:

On the diamond's stage, where legends collide,
A battle is set, hearts swelling with pride.
University of Florida, led by Jac Caglianone,
And LSU's Paul Skenes, a star yet unknown.

Jac Caglianone, a pitcher of grace,
With fire in his arm, determination in his face.
He stands on the mound, ready to ignite,
The Gators' hopes, shining so bright.

Paul Skenes, a phenom, his talent renowned,
His pitches a symphony, precise and profound.
He takes the hill, with a confident flair,
The Tigers' hopes, carried on the air.

Fastballs and sliders, Caglianone's repertoire,
With every pitch, he aims to leave a scar.
His eyes locked on the catcher's glove,
He unleashes his power, fierce as a dove.

Skenes responds with a masterful might,
His changeup dances, curves take flight.
His focus unyielding, his pitches refined,
A force to reckon, in the batter's mind.

The crowd in awe, witnessing the duel,
As both hurlers showcase their remarkable fuel.
Caglianone's breaking ball, a mesmerizing spell,
While Skenes' fastball, a tale to tell.

Batters approach, with hopes to connect,
But the pitchers are resolute, they won't neglect.
Strikeouts and groundouts, they tally with pride,
As the innings pass, the tension's amplified.

Each pitch is a battle, a test of might,
Between Caglianone and Skenes, their will ignites.
The dugouts roar, the fans cheer with might,
In this College World Series, a breathtaking sight.

As the sun sets, painting the sky in gold,
The game hangs in balance, the story yet untold.
Who will emerge victorious, in this clash of fate?
The answer unfolds, as innings accumulate.

But beyond the rivalry, a mutual respect,
Between two warriors, their talents intersect.
For in this noble game, they share a connection,
A love for baseball, the ultimate reflection.

In the matchup of Florida and LSU's best,
Caglianone and Skenes put skills to the test.
A battle for glory, etched in the hearts,
Where legends are born, and greatness imparts.

No matter the outcome, their names will be heard,
In the annals of history, their stories assured.
For on this hallowed diamond, where dreams unite,
Two pitchers transcend, under the spotlight.

So let the matchup commence, the duel unfold,
Between Caglianone and Skenes, fearless and bold.
May their pitches dance, their spirits prevail,
In this College World Series, an unforgettable tale.

As a prospect for the MLB Skenes certainly has a case. On college performance absolutely not.

Didn't Crews (sp?) just win that award?   And he's definitely playing, right?   But fuck that guy, talk about a player that might play a third of the game, heck he might start, do you think he should start?
