To All My Surly Friends:
It is with great pleasure that I proudly announce the birth of my new GoFundMe project - the formation of an innovative, science-driven undersea engineering company, whose mission it is to develop and implement a deep sea diving vessel for the commercial purpose of exploring the wreck of the late submersible Titan.
This is your opportunity to join me in funding this historic project. Details to follow soon.

That's Victor Vescovo who's from Dallas. He's a total badass. He and his team are the ones that just found that WW2 Navy ship at 22,000 feet.

Someone posted part 1 of this documentary about the sub and it's actually good, so here are all the segments.  Only at the start of part 3 now, but highlights so far are Stockton saying you're not supposed to build with carbon fiber and titanium together (which I mentioned before), the YouTuber driving the Titan into a rock during a shallow water test run, and this:

Total time for all the videos is almost 2 hours and it's in Spanish, but you can turn on English subtitles.

As your unfriendly resident 911 specialist; if we quit spending govt money on stupid people then your local fire department would still be showing up on horseback with buckets and your ambulance would still be run by the funeral home.

Ok and?

You know some influencer free lancer is going to be try this out. They’ll just need some funding

ummm the parts came from Taiwan.

Yeah, but we told them what we wanted and did the ordering. "Why America need so many underwater components?"

"Be quiet Chang and pack the box."

Because the Navy thought it’d be funny to send the Coast Guard out to search for an imploded submersible.

And maybe fuck with the French, Canadians and Brits!

Guys I really need prayers because I just learned my rich brother in law was crushed to death in a really obviously dangerous voluntary trip that cost as much as a house. We’re all truly heartbroken about it.

Also I’m separately super stoked about this Our Lady Peace concert.

Also, I’m an ass man. It’s important that you don’t judge me for wanting that shit on my face.

Also, before I inevitably delete this account, I’m going to probably drop the n word a few times.

Your prayers are super appreciated in these troubling moments

Also, we are clearly getting dumber if we are just comparing the two.  The titanic was largely operator error.  This was everyone error.  Each and every person inside the sub and in charge of the ‘mission’ above water is/was a total fucking moron.

Titanic also had engineering and manufacturing error as contributing factors (compartment design, metallurgy used). Lot of links in that fault chain as well. Not disagreeing with your second statement at all, but ultimately human hubris killed wealthy people in both cases.

seriously though, why the f didn't the US Navy tell everyone?

Did you read the article? They notified Coast Guard, who opted to proceed with search.

Honestly, if the Coast Guard said on Sunday night "nah, we're not going to search, they're all dead" the amount of shit that people would have been flinging at the CG, the government in general, etc., would be...

jurassic park deal with it GIF

Exactly. And sonar isn't 100%, they knew something imploded in the area, but it could have been an external tank or some unrelated piece of stray scrap. They made the right decision to continue search until definitive confirmation.

Plus this is/was a great training opp for a lot of the search team.

There is a lot of waste in the government, especially DHS, but the USCG is not one of them.

Yeah, when I think of the Coast Guard, first thing that pops in my head is bloat.  Oh sorry, I meant boat.

Yep. Sensors show something that imploded, triangulate its position, then send an ROV deep down and find it. And you didn't plan any of this so it tests how well you can do all that quick with no warning.

Ocean is pretty quiet down deep.

Why would the coast guard need to be trained and equipped for open-ocean, deep sea rescues?  Isn’t their area of expertise…like…in the name?

No. They do a shitton of stuff that is not in the name.

I could make a submersible out of a giant magic 8 ball…and add some of these gadgets. Sadly I am sure there are more than a few people designing their own submersible…after the shitshow we just witnessed…in a way it kind of inspires people to be creative…lol all of this shit I have no doubt I can make work in such a way that the fucking thing won’t implode.

It would be crazy if the cheap ass game controller needed new batteries and they ended up crashing into the ocean floor which caused the hull to rupture.

I hope they are able to recover the game controller. It would stand as a warning to the stupidity of thrill seeking rich people.

Congratulate me on my first poast!
