We still have better athletes and that’s showing as the game wears on.

We're also still better at soccer. Like we were before the game started.

But only because of our athleticism. Our team is tactically unintelligent. And we’re not more skilled than the Dutch.

Athleticism doesn't get you that far in soccer. You are welcome to disagree with me but we are easily more talented than this Dutch team. Hence why we have completely dominated the 2nd half.

Our legs are just a touch tired, we're a hair slow. If there is a time that it can cost you, it's right now.

Given the lack of subs, if we blow this game now, that's on the coach.

That's a great fucking point. Don't lose against POR and we're through.

Really shaky first half but the way they came together and kicked ass that 2nd half should be a warning to everyone else in this tourney. We're still the shit. You're going through us if you want to win.

Go kick POR's ass and win another one.

welp, based on this match, we're not 3-peating

we still could, but the stupid "who is going to stop this team" commercials are going to cost us karma with the soccer gods

Where have I see the US Soccer federation saddling a team with a shit coach before?

the difference beyond the goal but that also made the goal is lavelle

the rest of the team is up a gear with her running at people

I think she's our best player.  Any chance of her going 90 soon?

Based on the gear they hit in that second half we easily could. Don’t be a pussy.

The U.S. women's national team midfielder said it was a bruising tackle from club teammate Danielle van de Donk and their tense exchange that fueled Horan's equalizer against the Netherlands in the Women's World Cup on Wednesday. "That's where you get the best football from Lindsey," Horan said afterward. "I don't think you ever want to get me mad because I don't react in a good way. Usually I just go and I want something more -- I want to win more, I want to score more, I want to do more for my team."

Basically confirm the eye test, the team is sleep walking through the games.  Activate Hulk mode for now on por favor.

So if we end up with the same goal differential as NED after our wins in game 3, how is the tie broken for the first spot?

1. Goal differential
2. Goals scored
3. H2H
4. Fair play points

So we're through with a draw or win vs Portugal. We'll win the group if we at least match Netherlands' result against Vietnam and they don't catch us on GD (we're currently +2 on them).

BTW - for those that say "We're just the better team, we're fine!" Here are the words of the man that coaches the team

The goal they scored was soft (and was their only shot on goal) and they had one corner kick.

Vlat ain’t that far off TBH.

the dutch goal was not soft imho

well constructed and intricate speed of thought in the box

would love to see us score that way

here's a bunch of stuff, some of it belongs in the other thread but i'm rushed at the moment and want to get this posted for everyone

What They're Saying: Sarina Wiegman

"You just have to move on. You’re at the World Cup, and you want to win that game. So we really have to adapt to a new situation as quickly as possible, and that’s what we did. ... [When] Keira went out and we had to adapt to the situation. In the second half, Denmark also had such a direct style of play. We also showed we can fight. The team showed real resilience."

— England coach Sarina Wiegman, after her team's 1-0 win over Denmark in which midfielder Keira Walsh was stretchered off with a knee injury in the 35th minute. Coming into the World Cup, England was already depleted of other stars of its Euro 2022 title-winning team: Leah Williamson, Beth Mead and Fran Kirby.

Agreed. It was a clinical ball hit just inside the post that punished multiple defensive mistakes.

It actually reminded me of how those assholes beat us in Qatar.

Phenomenal soccer culture.

I had that same feeling regarding the match resembling the match in Qatar. They're so much more patient than we were and then they made us look silly as soon as the chance was there.

The Dutch women had a similar chance in the second half that was an easy goal if Ertz doesn't make a hero's save with her heel.

Yeah. Then on the other side you have Rodman with that awesome chip that almost snuck in.

They played smarter, more tactically sound football. We earned a point on raw talent and athleticism. Which is okay.

We can definitely play more composed than we did.

Seems like both Rodman and Smith could have been subbed, although Smith was better later.  So I don’t get his take.  You get 5 subs and you aren’t winning. Get some energy on the field.

School me on whether Thompson is ready for prime time or not.  I am curious.

Draw gets us through "tonight".

Debating on trying to wake up then go back to bed. I'd like to think they aren't actually going to lose to Portugal.
