2023 Texas Volleyball - Back to Back!

Swindle’s connections with O’Neal and Phillips look much improved. As soon as we get consistency at OH2, that should take some pressure off MB2 (Bella) - she’s effective in smaller doses, but when OH2 isn’t producing, she has to be set more and it takes away her effectiveness.  To her credit, she’s doing great but she only hit .270 last night, which isn’t good for a MB

Here’s hoping the bulk of set work in practice is Swindle to Devin

You're starting to see a team that is dangerous.

Elite block, middles are dangerous offensively, and Skinner is starting to play like a dominant OH1. Need a OH2 to just keep improving.

And the serve game

Elliot at Point Texas last night, per Volley Talk:

1. Saw the SEC volleyball schedule for next year.  Not. Pleased. At. All.  All games will be Friday and Sunday (not the same team).  He said he experienced that playing schedule when he was in the Pac 12 (I know it was probably Pac 10 then) and he hated it.  Said the girls are robbed of their weekends and it starts dragging a team down where they are physically and mentally exhausted by the end of the year.

2. Said he was going to start Wenaas.  Said Singletary was doing outstanding in the gym and they need to find time for her in a game, but that time would mean she would be fighting for starting time.  So tough to find the window.  Said Singletary and Kahahawai were both going to be "first off the bench" players

3. Said they almost pulled the redshirt on Byrd.  Aha!  Redshirt - he said it.  They told to get ready the he sent her to get last minute instructions from Erik and then, "Molly got hot"

4. Said he actually now likes the home-home games.  That was a shock.

5. When asked about the Kansas setter who likes to dump, ALOT he said a few things:

    a. They don't practice defending that because they don't have a setter who can dump practice.  No, not Swindle, Crownover.

    b. They don't like their middle jumping every single time the setter is touching the ball because that means each of the pins are left alone

That's just bullshit for players and staff... what happened to all the recent concern for athletes mental health !!!

Through 10/9:

Texas 6-0
UCF 5-0
ISU 4-1
TCU 4-2
BYU 3-2
KU/KSU 3-3
UH/Cincinnati/Baylor 2-3
Texas Tech 1-5
OU 0-5
WV 0-5

Remaining schedule:

2 against UH (2-3)
1 against TCU (4-2)
2 against Baylor (2-3)
2 against WV (0-5)
1 against KSU (3-3)
1 against Cincinnati (2-3)
1 against Iowa State (4-1)
1 against UCF (5-0)
1 against Tech (1-5)

Our remaining matches have a WP of 25-36 (.410).  @TCU is probably our toughest remaining match. UCF is 5-0 against Cincinnati, OU and Tech lol. They have Baylor, TCU, UH and BYU twice (consecutively) before they face us.  They could and should be something more like 7-6 by the time we face them.

We have a very weird schedule where we have only played back 2 back series so far. We have 1 single match against TCU after the UH series and then we end the season 5 different one-off opponents after the WV series.

We decided to join the SEC.  That’s some woke ass bullshit that doesn’t work there.  Women will do what they’re told to do when they’re told to do it.

Hopefully the SEC is not committed to ONLY Friday/Sunday, meaning some Thursday/Saturday or Saturday/Monday to provide some variety.

And maybe it’s just for a year while they figure out scheduling for the future. But the B1G does the same type of scheduling (sometimes you play 2 diff opponents on back to back nights, like you go to MSU and Michigan for a Friday/Saturday)

Texas is FOURTH in the RPI, but unless the committee goes straight RPI, we probably aren't hosting. Two of our losses are to RPI #2 and #5 (Stanford and WSU) and #48 (Long Beach State), with wins over #16 BYU (x2), #25 KU (x2), #39 Minnesota, #41 Rice and #52 Ohio State.  We offset those 3 losses that with 7 top 52 wins.

Texas has the chance for 7 more top 50 wins at the moment, but our biggest knock is going be lack of top 25 matches (6, with a 4-2 record currently, and KU is barely hanging onto top 25 in the RPI)

Matches remaining (RPI rankings):

28 Baylor (x2)
31 UCF
33 TCU
34 ISU
47 Houston (x2)
89 Texas Tech
92 Kansas State
117 Cincinnati
196 West Virginia (x2)

AVCA Poll:
1. Wisconsin (60)
2. Nebraska (4)
3. Stanford
4. Washington State

5. Oregon
6. Louisville
7. Texas
8. Pittsburgh
9. BYU
10. Tennessee
11. Georgia Tech
12. Arkansas
13. Penn State
14. Florida
15. Purdue
16. Kansas
17. Creighton
18. Dayton
19. Arizona State
20. Baylor
21. Houston

22. Auburn
23. Kentucky
24. Minnesota
25. Iowa State

Now there's some intense ignorance there. I only know Auburn, which is in the heart of the SEC, and they are state of the art. I would bet other SEC schools are too. They even offer therapy dogs.

Take your ignorance hand hatred elsewhere.

Bought 7 tix myself so there will be some burnt orange for sure

Will be some fun matches. UH isn’t as good as we thought they’d be (2-3 in conference with both of those over WV) and 9-5 overall (did beat USC and aggy, but lost to Texas State), but they’ll be fired up to play us

Unfortunately for them, we are getting hot and much more comfortable in some new roles. OH2 is still the biggest question mark.
