The Sound of Freedom

Human trafficking of children is a very real problem that should be taken very seriously. Shit like this just undermines the seriousness of it, the movie makers here have no interest in saving children, but creating implications that its leftists/socialists/drag queens/gays/democrats that are responsible. As you can tell from this very thread, it makes people less likely to acknowledge it as a real problem. An organization I'm a part of has had a focus on human trafficking this last year and I learned a lot about it, without which, I'd probably agree that it's horrific but not very common. It's more common that most of us think, and shit like this whose aim is to play politics, makes me sick to my stomach, because it makes solutions harder to reach.

The stat the Q followers and others who think the world's elite are running some child sex trafficking cabal where they consume their adenochrome point to the stat that 800,000 kids go missing per year in the US. Staggering number, right? Grabs your attention doesn't it? They fail to point out -- or more likely, simply don't know -- that something like 95% (maybe more) of those "missing" children are safely home the following day.

the MAGA-Q don't believe it is the world's elite, just the left-wing and centrist elites.

gah. so easily disproved... it's playing at all the AMC theaters in Denver. people's brains are just broken.

People in Denver should break into the AMC theaters and replace the movie with Cry Freedom and see if they notice.

I'm happy to see all these Republicans that now care about women and children who want to escape the dangers in Latin America, surely it will translate into voting for politicians that will push immigration reform and help them gain asylum in our country to protect them from the evil doers.

My mom just gushed about this movie and Jim Caviezel to me this morning. I had never heard of it. Didn't realize it was some Q propaganda nonsense but totally not surprising given the bubble she's in right now.

You should send her some of the debunking articles but you might be afraid of her responses as she declares you're part of the Cabal.

I'd like to see the actual number of butts in seats compared to tickets sold. Some of this Pay It Forward stuff where you can buy tickets for people smells a lot like Mormons baptizing the souls of dead people. Seems like an easy way to overinflate the returns of a movie especially when it's something that the Q cult is passionate about. Success at any cost.

About that Colombia "sting":

The man is a media whore, he doesn't give a shit about saving children. If anything, he makes the problem worse by throwing tons of money around in impoverished areas, encouraging assholes to kidnap kids to sell to his group.

from that article:

Quote

I was told two of the children had been trafficked for the first time that day. It didn’t seem to occur to anyone that OUR may have created a demand. After the sting, I asked people on the jump team where the 26 kids were taken. I was given only vague answers. Aftercare wasn’t really their focus, I was told, but they partnered with people who did it well.

I found out what really happened from a Foreign Policy report:

In 2014, after OUR’s first operation in the Dominican Republic, a local organization called the National Council for Children and Adolescents quickly discovered it didn’t have the capacity to handle the 26 girls rescued. They were released in less than a week.

Some testified, the article reported. The local organization lost track of others. All those kids in 2014 got from us was a soda and a swim—and Ballard came out ahead in the deal.

It doesn't appear to be much about protecting the children if they're released into the same environment within days.

Hopefully they tagged them, so the next time OUR "hero" Ballard goes larping in the jungles of Columbia he'll find out just how successful his operation rescue really is.

What??? The Qultist movie they obsessively buy tickets for beat "Indiana Jones and the Dead for 34-years Aborted Fetus of a Franchise He's Still Dragging Around for Some Reason?"

No shit.

No one wants to watch another Indiana Jones movie after that last atrocity.

that was a specific thing my family member mentioned. how this nothing underdog movie about child trafficking is knocking off all the big boys in hollywood including indiana jones and the dail of whatever the fuck.

my answer was something vague like "well, who knows what box office measures these days with early streaming releases, etc" even though i know exactly how that shit is calculated.

so i guess this show is really showing the hollywood liberal elite?

What's the both sides equivalent of this movie and qanon. I'm dying to know.

I don’t know anything about this movie other than what I just read here, before I stumbled across a delusional illiterate swipe.

A self-absorbed person is able to listen to feedback or constructive criticism at least somewhat openly. A narcissist, by contrast, will get angry and try to turn the tables when faced with any criticism. And while narcissists project a better-than-everyone-else image outwardly, they typically suffer inwardly from low self-worth.

There are certainly posters that I will take criticism from, but it’s not gonna be the guy who doesn’t know what a question mark looks like nor the one that registered in June 2020 rolling out a cut and paste job.

You’ve been the #bothsides poster for quite some time, Ana. I was motivated to quote the experts by your “illiterate” jab, frankly.

This is my first user name on this site. I had another name on Surly, which I registered after the manager of the Co-op introduced me to Thujone, and detailed the history of that site.

Well shit. You maybe missed out on a few things in that time frame between the jumps. Or maybe you just hung with badmofo in that interim.

It's a perfect connection to the modern GOP- Focus on sex, use "save the children" as a rallying cry (without meaningful actions), and ignore the things that might implicate and undercut their corporate donors.

Like decrying border security without punishing corporations that use cheap undocumented labor to cut costs?

Possibly off topic (at least this new course of dialogue), but I have some friends and former students who work as legal advocates for persons who've escaped human trafficking (Seattle has quite a bit, being a major port city to Asia). That persons are exploited sexually is tragically factual, the majority of persons trafficked are enslaved in roles that are more "labor" based- Domestic labor, agricultural work, sweatshop production.

One of my colleagues often says that the focus on sexual exploitation is important, but it also provides a convenient distraction to the fact that all of us benefit from (in her language "are complicit in") the larger amount of human suffering due to our participation in an economy that emphasizes low consumer costs and high corporate profits over human dignity and thriving.

It's a perfect connection to the modern GOP- Focus on sex, use "save the children" as a rallying cry (without meaningful actions), and ignore the things that might implicate and undercut their corporate donors.

Back to your discussion of Barbie

Was coming here to post something similar. The QAnon fear porn distracts attention from the way trafficking usually looks, which is teenagers working in a slaughterhouse in Iowa or kids baking bricks at a factory in Pakistan.

I'm curious - let's talk about the teenagers working in a slaughterhouse in Iowa (or whatever is going on in Seattle). What does that look like? Are we talking, kids from some foreign country whisked away and taken here where they are put to work in a sweatshop? That is owned by the traffickers, or the people who own the workplace look the other way and don't ask questions about the young looking laborers, and pay the.... traffickers? Is there a good reality based doc somewhere to understand how this happens?

Here is my guess

1. Trafficker promises riches in America.

2. Victim wants a better life and agrees

3. Trafficker shoves as many people in a shipping container as possible. They arrive in USA. Some die, some don't.

4. Victim is forced to work in Sweatshop/Brothel/etc to pay off "debt" of travel, and now housing/food

It's modern day slavery
