Exactly it’s a bigger deal to them. They play as a team-one heart-we just heard the announcers go through it all. We play as the #9 golfer and #1 golfer, they play as a team. I get it’s a fun “exhibition” that I love to watch but it should be set up differently..just small changes, my opinion

Maybe I'm not understanding. You're saying we should change the format because they're better than us?

Should we move one of the majors to Europe because we win too many of them?

What take? He shouldn't have conceded it. It's also not why we lost. That's not "ridiculous" it's 100% factual.

It's not why we lost, it's the cynical implication.  That's not how competition works, especially in an event that means so much to a lot of people.

You put in the effort and you put in the work and you don't give up.

Let's say the Horns were down 2 touchdowns with 4 minutes to go and the other guys drove down to our 5.  Do we just go ahead and escort them in and give them the td?  You don't quit,  it's literally defeatist and it's just a pussy attitude.

We haven’t won the cup in Europe in 30 years….that’s fun to you? No I’m not saying change the format because we can’t figure this out. I’m saying to make it more even for the away team-maybe have a bi-team committee set up the course? I’m not saying change so we can win, I’m just saying it’s 30 years of the same…little boring. Johnson just said the travel makes it almost impossible for the away team. I think it can be figured out…I just want more entertainment

European fans imitating New Zealand rugby fans watching their team doing a pre-match Haka will never not be cringe.

(Though not as cringe as American fans imitating Europeans imitating native South Pacific Islanders’ tradition.)

Johnson's a moron.  Much harder travel didn't seem to bother Jack, Arnie, and Lee back in the day.

I have traveled to Europe and back via coach seats and I have traveled back & forth via first class seats and I can confirm that Johnson is a fucking idiot if he is trying to say that flying first class to Europe, staying in a 5 star hotel/ resort, high end home in the area, and then playing golf is hard.

I could go on, but this isn’t about me. Johnson is a douche. (But he’s not unique in the golfing community.)

I was a D1 golfer for a solid school…I’ve played lots of top golf and never seen that even in club championships. You make them putt that for the win, especially a 3 footer. Wtf!?

I still can’t believe he did that. He must not have been aware of the situation.

He got on my nerves this week for the first time ever.

I think he is fake as fuck.  the hat thing was just done after Cantly had been getting shit all day from the fans.  everyone loves on him, I've always thought he's just a fake bitch.  eh couldn't wait to take the money that the PGA was forced to give over all while piling on the LIV guys.  great golfer though and has everyone fooled about what a great guy he is.

Maybe. You don't seem to like the US players, either. I think he got a bit carried away this week after getting embarrassed last time around. He's a prideful guy.

Seems like a decent enough dude but anyone with that big a brand is probably a little manufactured. He's more often classy than not. He wasn't really this week.

I mainly like watching him play golf. I'm not disillusioned to the fact that a lot of these guys are douchebags - it's professional golf.

huh? I like the US guys.  just because they play pussy golf in Europe doesn't mean I don't like them.  Koepka seems like the only guy that can be a bit douchey on this team.   I just laugh at the Rory "such a great guy" love because of the whole LIV thing.

This made me laugh out loud.

Koepka has strangely grown on me lately. Not sure why. I guess I just like that he sticks to being an asshole and winning majors.

I like most guys on tour. Typically I need a specific reason to not like them. Like Reed being a fat cheater. Or Cantlay playing 3 holes every 2 hours.

I think you're entitled to your Rory take and I don't think it's inaccurate. Like I said he was irritating me in his last interview this week. But some of that is just US/Euro stuff.

BDC gives the douchey "smarter than you" vibe but then again he did go to SMU

Oh I've never tried to defend the BDC stuff and we were literally at SMU at the same time. I liked him then he started doing the long drive shit and joined LIV and I was kind of out.

Deep down I'd still cheer for him if he was in contention at a major but it's sort of like having to be nice to your in-laws.

Everything about the "drama" felt so cheesy. The fist pumping and over-the-top celebrating after every. Single. Made. Putt. Like i get if it's a putt that's really important to the match but it all gets to be a little much to me when it's on every hole, especially when things aren't really close. I was fired up about Cantlay's play on Saturday as well but the way the Americans celebrated it was dumb. Like guys we're still getting absolutely annihilated here. It's like in a football game when a guy makes a big hit and starts talking shit, only for the opposing player to point at the scoreboard and remind them that they are being blown out by 4 touchdowns.

The Ryder Cup has jumped the shark for me.  The last great Cup imo was Hazeltine (Saturday afternoon fourballs) and they have progressively declined from there.  When a golf event makes me like the golfers, the fans and the sport less, it is failing as an event.  Bethpage is going to be an absolute shitshow and then back to Europe for another beat down.  Golf as entertainment is quickly fading to a 4 weekend a year sport for me (majors).

I think it would be kinda good if they would have both teams agree to a 4 course rotation in each(US/Euro) and make them both agree so we don't have all this gimmicky shit with courses going on. 3 driveable par 4's is fucking stupid.  Bobby Jones would be appalled.

Yes there it is. I liked everyone less after watching how they behaved. It was kinda shameful. And for what, they'll all run into each other at a Starbucks in Florida next week and be chummy again.

[1] Henry Winkler is on the cover of this month’s AARP magazine and I explained the origin and meaning of “jumped the shark” to my mother just last night.

[2] There isn’t a group of professional athletes that I would want to be around less that American golfers.

I don’t need a sporting event to remind me of that. I may watch, but the number of times that the word “douche” would reflexively be uttered if I were to have to spend times around these guys would number in the hundreds on any given day.

oh I agree. he's a great golfer. its the Euro's never do anything wrong, ugly American's schtick that I am tired of.  and the whole LIV stance rubbed me the wrong way.  dude is happy to cash(and continue to cash)those checks the LIV guys got for him.  I don't really root against him but I'm always going to root for an American over Rory.

you are getting caught up in the media schtick of the Euro's are just regular guys and the US is just a bunch of country club douche bros.  The Euro's have just as high a douche quotient.

You appear to be under the impression that I have read anything about any golfer in the last decade or two and that I actually have the volume on when I watch golf.

Golf takes forever to do anything.

The little that I did watch was with the volume off 90% of the time while a soccer game was on another screen and college or NFL pregame shows on.

I was familiar with some of the U.S. players and only a few of the Euros. I did laugh at the Euro with jiggly moobs and it turned out that he was/is from Ireland. And I have been there, so that was interesting and entertaining.

Guess what Xander still isn't getting paid, because he and the rest of the US squad are softer that Charmin.

winner take all would be the best format

Exactly, it is easy over hyped, made for TV event.

It used to be special because players didn't travel like they do now. Hell, the best players on the Euro team barely play the EuroTour. It is fabricated nationalism, and forced drama.

But if it hype that you like, wait until the virtual tour starts; and the networks fill time slots with that. Then in about 8 years they can create the virtual Ryder cup type events.

Wait, there's going to be an EA Sports golf tour?

Holy, shit y'all are in some fucking trouble.
