Haha. Write out all 133 teams, cross out the ones that definitely don't deserved to be ranked, then add 10 teams back to the 15 you had left.

Damn I accidentally left out Alabama.
This shit is harder than I thought.

Defensible, honestly. I still have them ranked in the middle of the poll because I have a hard time believing they’d lose outright to a lot of the bottom half but I freely admit I’m basically deferring to recruiting talent and athleticism. They have a serious QB/OL issue.

I also did the same thing for Miami last week, just blanked on putting them in. Here’s mine for this week. Biggest upward mover, aside from Miami into the poll, is Duke from 20 to 17. K State dropped 4 spots and Alabama dropped 5.

1.) Georgia
2.) Michigan
3.) Ohio State
4.) Washington
5.) Florida State
6.) Texas
7.) Notre Dame
8.) Penn State
9.) Utah
10.) Oregon
11.) North Carolina
12.) LSU
13.) USC
14.) Alabama
15.) Oregon State
16.) Ole Miss
17.) Duke
18.) Miami
19.) Kansas State
20.) Oklahoma
21.) Colorado
22.) Clemson
23.) Iowa
24.) Kansas
25.) Fresno State

New ranked teams - Miami (oops)
Dropped Out - Tennessee

Sounds good. I know you aren't going to redo it for mine- but just wanted to post mine since I have all year.

Big week in CFB this week.  Really the kickoff of the real year.  I'm pretty sure (unless the game just looks like dogshit) that the winner of Domers v OSU will be my new #1 next week.

Submitting mostly so I remember to submit going forward. I try to do somewhat of a resume ranking (excluding Georgia) that wildly fluctuates in the early part of the season, but it's impossible to be entirely consistent. I included best wins in parenthesis.

1 - Georgia (South Carolina)

2 - Texas (@Bama)

3 - Florida State (LSU, @BC)

4 - Utah (Florida, @Baylor)

5 - Washington (Michigan St.)

6 - Duke (Clemson, Northwestern)

7 - Penn State (WVU, @Illinois)

8 - North Carolina (South Carolina, Minnesota)

9 - Notre Dame (@NC State)

10 - Colorado (@TCU, Nebraska)

11 - Miami (A&M)

12 - Ole Miss (@Tulane, Georgia Tech)

13 - Washington State (Wisconsin)

14 - BYU (@Arkansas)

15 - Missouri (Kansas St)

16 - Oregon (@Tech)

17 - Kansas (Illinois)

18 - Oklahoma (SMU)

19 - Ohio State (Indiana)

20 - USC (Stanford)

21 - Iowa (Iowa St.)

I will send mine in later tonight. Want some time to digest what happened this week.
I previously said I would likely have winner of OSau v Domers #1, but can’t justify that. OSU win no more impressive than FSU or Texas win. FSU has most impressive resume to date, but I’m not sure they are actually very good.
Both the Kansas schools will be ranked for me this week. OU still not likely making my top 20. They aren’t good.

16 - Missouri (KSU)

17 - Notre Dame (@NC State)

18 - Alabama (Ole Miss)

19 - LSU (MSU, Ark)

20 - BYU (Ark)

21 - Florida (I think Florida is a trash team with Charlie Strong 2.0 as a coach, and they will be lucky to finish 6-6. But the win over Tenn at this point in this season is a good win)

22 - Colorado (TCU; Nebraska)

23 - Louisville (G Tech, Indiana, BC)

24 - Maryland (MSU, UVA)

25 - Michigan (they won't play an above average team until November 11. An absolute fucking joke that they will be the consensus #2 until that time. I will keep moving them down as other 1 loss teams get good wins).

I'm not sending in a ballot but Wyoming should be ranked.
They have a win over Texas Tech, they beat a pretty good App State team, and they played Texas close on the road.

As it stands I think Fresno State is the better team out of the MWC but I’m going to be keeping an eye on their game in two weeks for sure. Wyoming has UNM and Fresno has Nevada so it should be 5-0 vs 4-1.

Putting this together is becoming a fun little Sunday morning pastime. New appearances are Wazzu and Louisville, at the expense of Colorado and Iowa. I dropped Michigan a good bit from the #2 spot; I’d been giving some benefit of the doubt without their HC on game day but at this point the top 5 have differentiated themselves with accomplishments, except for Georgia who honestly just gets a higher degree of BOTD.

1.) Georgia
2.) Florida State
3.) Ohio State
4.) Washington
5.) Texas
6.) Michigan
7.) Notre Dame
8.) Penn State
9.) Oregon
10.) Alabama
11.) Utah
12.) North Carolina
13.) LSU
14.) USC
15.) Duke
16.) Miami
17.) Ole Miss
18.) Washington State
19.) Kansas State
20.) Oklahoma
21.) Oregon State
22.) Clemson
23.) Kansas
24.) Fresno State
25.) Louisville

Washington seems the most complete team, but playing in siberia at odd times isn't helping.

They gave up a lot of points to Cal which, ignoring possible circumstances I don’t know and am too lazy to look up, seems pretty bad. That said, their actual on-field results this season compare pretty well with anyone else’s, absent a big name win. They’re one of a handful of teams with a pretty fair argument for a #1 vote.

I’m going to have Utah too high (they suck) but they will be found out later.
I bumped Clemson from my pill after week 1 and will bring them back in with a loss.

LSU I think will continue to be unranked.
it’s early still and the resumes will work their way out.

They were up like 35-3 or something g like that early in the 2nd quarter. The entire game was basically garbage time.

It Utah can keep leaning on that defense until Rising gets back, I don’t think they suck at all. Without him, they’re going to have some struggles ahead of them.

They may be the hardest team to rank because of this. They have now beaten Florida and UCLA with a backup QB, and also went on the road to win at Baylor; they are ass but a road win with your backup QB against a team that no doubt was prepping for you during fall camp is impressive. Overall that's a very solid profile indicating a high floor.

But all three of those wins were basically carried by the defense and I think they are going to have to get something out of their offense to beat Washington, Oregon, and USC. I could see Oregon State wearing them down on the ground while their offense is bottled up.

Yeah, holding a lot of the rest of their schedule under 20 would be Herculean, all the more so without an offense to help. If they don’t hold them under 20, it’ll be hard to win with backup QBs.

Washington laid waste to Cal. They were up 24-6 at the end of Q1, 45-12 at half. They also picked Cal off three times in the first half and held them to 3.8 yards/carry and 5.7 yards/pass attempt.

Cal scored 20 points in the final 17 minutes after being down 52-12.

i can't find an AP Poll thread on the first 4 pages and of course search = dick

i don't want to post the AP Poll in here and unduly influence the data - but i also don't want to start an AP Poll thread if the goal is to get to the first CFP release while this thread retains arguable double-blind authenticity

Some of both results and power.

  1 Washington
  2 Texas
  3 Florida State
  4 USC
  5 Oklahoma
  6 Michigan
  7 Notre Dame
  8 Penn State
  9 Utah
  10 Georgia
  11 Ohio State
  12 Duke
  13 North Carolina
  14 Mississippi
  15 Oregon
  16 Iowa
  17 Rutgers
  18 Oregon State
  19 Washington State
  20 Missouri
  21 Syracuse
  22 UCLA
  23 Alabama
  24 Kansas
  25 UCF

I'm putting how teams have moved, but in reality I ignored where I had team before.  There are some early wins/losses that look better now and some that look worse, so I went for the complete reset:

1 Texas (+1) (win over #16)
2 Washington (-1)
3 Michigan (+3) (win over #22)
4 USC
5 Oklahoma
6 Ohio State (+5) (win over #20)
7 Florida State (-4)
8 Penn State
9 North Carolina (+4)
10 Utah (-1)
11 Duke (+1)
12 Oregon (+3)
13 Georgia (-3)
14 Washington State (+5) (win over #23)
15 Miami (NR) (win over #19)
16 Alabama (+7) (loss to #1)
17 Maryland (NR)
18 Missouri (+2)
19 Texas A&M (NR) (loss to #15)
20 Notre Dame (-13) (loss to #6)
21 Syracuse
22 Rutgers (-5) (loss to #3)
23 Wisconsin (NR) (loss to #14)
24 Louisville (NR)
25 Kentucky (NR)

Thoughts on what are likely more controversial ranks:

Texas #1 and Washington #2 - The Alabama win is looking real now.  We at least know that Alabama has a top defense.  I still think Washington might be the better team, but it's hard to look at the two schedules and not see that Texas has a clearly better resume.

Oklahoma #5 - Their defense is real.  The offense has been hit or miss, but it isn't bad.  Is this even a controversial take anymore?  They look solid.

Georgia #13 - They've looked okay, but not great.  This is among the worst schedules for the ranked teams.  There's a voice telling me that maybe they will show better against good teams, but there's also one telling me that they could lose to an unranked team before they even get there (note that #25 Kentucky is the only UGA opponents actually ranked above, Tennessee and Ole Miss are arguable but have already lost).  I guess I'm in "prove it to me" mode right now with this team.

1.       Florida State- not this good- but only team with 2 impressive victories

2.       Texas- most impressive victory- nobody else within 20 points

3.        Ohio State- Beat best team- didn’t look as good doing it as Texas

4.       Oregon – Not my favorite Pac 12 team- but better victories than Washington

5.       Washington- Will be best team in the Pac 12 by time dust settles

6.       Utah- maybe only team in the country with 3 P5 wins- if we count Baylor as P5.  They aren’t this good

7.       USC- Ugly game against ASU.  Offense is top 3 in football

8.       Carolina – solid wins over solid teams- good for Mack.  He’s going to win 10 this year

9.       Duke- looked better in beating Clemson than FSU did. Handle ND and they are jumping FSU

10.   Penn State

11.   Georgia- played a disgraceful schedule and haven’t looked good doing it- offense might suck

12.   Michigan- See Georgia

13.   Washington St.- Don’t think they are this good- their wins so far are

14.   Miami- beating the hapless easily.  That hapless includes aggy

15.   Domers- I think they are pretty good. I think they beat USC. I think they rue that 6” when they miss the playoffs

16.   Bama- Not classic bama good.  But nobody on schedule other than Texas truly exploit them imo

17.   Kansas- Really good offense.  2 decent wins against Illinois easily and BYU sizeably

18.   Missouri- not very good- but 4-0 and one was over KSU.

19.   Kentucky- Better than Misssou- less accomplished so far.  Beat UF this week and its’ top 15

20.   Kansas State- Decent squad.  I think they go 10=2 or 9-3, if they stay healthy

21.   Ole Miss- love Lane Kiffins creativity on offense.  They just got big brothered by bama

22.   Oregon State- good squad.

23.   Oklahoma – probably overrated here at 22. They will go 10-2 and maybe not be worthy of rank

24.   Clemson- played really well against FSU- absolutely should have won

25.   Wyoming- why not?  Played Texas closer than anyone and 3-0 otherwise with win over tech

Intentionally not ranked: LSU- they suck, Florida- see LSU neither have done anything worthy of a ranking.  Colorado- they also suck. They might be worthy of a ranking still with 2 P5 wins, but this is going badly for them next week too.  They should be 5-2 when they go play UCLA.

The Admiral's top25 :: 230924

guaranteed no traps at all

1 Georgia - zero loss title defender - we would expect the botd - paid

2 Michigan - zero loss playoff side - ditto - paid

3 THE UNIVERSITY - we're still winning

T4 USC

T4 Florida State - would love to finally play them

T6 Ohio State - evil

T6 0u - evil

8 Utah

9 Missouri

10 North Carolina

11 Washington

12 pedder - evil

13 Kansas

14 Miami

15 Kentuckee

16 Oregon

17 Maryland

18 Louisville

19 Syracuse

20 Washington State

21 Duke

22 Alabama - I know this seems low - it is low - but it will work itself out - it's early - this is a function of sec not playing P5 ooc

23 Kansas State

24 Wisconsin

25 Air Force - an undefeated G5 will only trump 2-loss P5 teams for 1 of 12 but I will always keep #25 for the last (or best) no-loss G5

I didn’t add or remove any teams this week but did some rearranging in the 10-25 portion. I think you could reasonably rank the top 5 in basically any order and would draw the line on real contenders somewhere between 6 and 9.

Ultimately despite Texas beating a team I have ranked I left them at 5 because KU’s ranking, to me, is associated with Jalon Daniels. I don’t think they should be knocked too much for the loss but I don’t think it’s some huge win for Texas.

Moved Duke up despite the loss (to fill in for a couple teams who I did penalize for losing). I had them at like 15-16 and I don’t think you penalize their ranking for losing to a top 7 team in a competitive game. I think they acquitted themselves well.

Utah continues to be very difficult to rank. I think they are a playoff contender when at full strength but they are so far from that and I’m not sure we’ll see it at all.

Oklahoma just moving steadily up the board almost by default, I still don’t really know what to make of them but we’ll sort that out this week. Fuck’em.

1.) Georgia
2.) Florida State
3.) Ohio State
4.) Washington
5.) Texas
6.) Michigan
7.) Notre Dame
8.) Penn State
9.) Oregon
10.) Alabama
11.) North Carolina
12.) USC
13.) Duke
14.) Miami
15.) Ole Miss
16.) LSU
17.) Oklahoma
18.) Washington State
19.) Kansas State
20.) Oregon State
21.) Clemson
22.) Utah
23.) Louisville
24.) Kansas
25.) Fresno State

Can we please stop pretending Georgia is good?
they aren’t. Their schedule is utter trash so, whatever- maybe they go 13-0 and make the playoffs but they suck dudes and dudettes. I’d like to think we here at Surly are smart enough to suss that out unlike the regular run of the mill media hoopleheads but I guess not.
Also- a shitty Bama team that we buttfucked in their home and didn’t win by 24 because we are a young team that played with it’s food a little bit being a top 10 team and fixing to go 11-1 is funny to me.

Also, beating LSU doesn’t look at strong as perhaps it did. If everyone’s going to break out the “Bama is down” take, let’s also acknowledge that LSU isn’t what they thought they were, either.

I didn’t rank them last week and said so, because they were ass, so yeah, No kidding dude.

The thing about top 10 teams is there has to be 10 of them. I don’t think Alabama is a tier 1 team but sitting here looking at the rest of the pack (and having a data point with the Ole Miss game) I’m not convinced I’d take anyone in that 11-25 range to beat them straight up. Maybe USC (speaking of overrated garbage) or UNC would get them with big QB performances. (Edit: should have mentioned Duke here too which is just strange to say)

Georgia, meh. I agree their schedule is garbage and they probably aren’t getting challenged until maybe the SEC championship game. But they went in the road and won a rivalry game by nonchalantly going +17 in quarters 2-4 after Auburn jumped on them with their hair on fire. If Texas did that we’d be circle jerking about grit and toughness. Washington and Texas and particular have their chances to really separate in my book over the next couple weeks but to me this week wasn’t cause for any big shifts in the top 5.

Oh I’m going to have Bama in my top 10 here I’m pretty sure this week, and they will finish top 10 I think, for the reasons you say but they aren’t, you know, good.
I went to the game and listened to the Astros clinch the playoffs on the way home so I don’t know what the domer v Duke game loonies like- educate me on that one.

23 - Louisville (G Tech, Indiana, BC)

24 - Maryland (MSU, UVA)

25 - Michigan (they won't play an above average team until November 11. An absolute fucking joke that they will be the consensus #2 until that time. I will keep moving them down as other 1 loss teams get good wins).

i officially moved them from 1 to 5 this week on my ballot.  they may be able to turn it on later in the year, but they are not the #1 team in the country right now.

What are you doing with your ballot?  It makes no sense  to me- what is your underlying rationale?

1 Texas - best resume, best overall team, win over #12
  2 Michigan (+1) - best defense
  3 Washington (-1)
  4 Penn State (+4)
  5 USC (-1) - best offense
  6 Oregon (+6)
  7 Oklahoma (-2)
  8 Florida State (-1)
  9 Kentucky (+16)
 10 Maryland (+7)
11 Ohio State (-5) - win over #19 very meh overall schedule though
 12 Alabama (+4) - loss to #1
 13 Washington State (+1)
 14 Texas A&M (+5) - loss to #22

These four teams would not appear in a Power ranking, but deserve credit for being undefeated:
 15 Air Force (NR)
 16 Fresno State (NR)
 17 North Carolina (-8)
 18 Georgia (-5)

19 Notre Dame (+1) - win over #20, loss to #11, most difficult schedule to date
 20 Duke (-9) - loss to #19
21 Ole Miss (NR) - loss to #12
 22 Miami (-3) - win over #14
23 Missouri (NR) - very sneakily undefeated, but would be left out of power ranking
 24 Wisconsin (-1) - loss to #13
 25 Rutgers (-3) - loss to #2

Resume other than Georgia, who I give a pass until they lose the crown. For example, I think Wash St’s win over OSU is better than anything on Oregon’s resume even though my eyes tell me Oregon is the better team.

But it’s getting tougher/impossible to do and remain entirely logically consistent. Like in theory Washington hasn’t really played anyone just like OU and Michigan and USC haven’t played anyone, so I should probably have them bunched together. I’m also spending 5 minutes on this so probably fuck me.

edit to add: and I just realized I completely omitted OSU, so yes, fuck me.

So resume except for #1 except they can suck shit through a straw as long as they continue to beat their collection of lame and halt- got it.
they might play exactly one ranked team- a suss Kentucky team, all year before the playoffs. Fuck that shit- they don’t deserve that ranking I’d they continue to look like @closetojumpingeoth his ass pressed against the mirror.
Wasn’t trying to be a dick, just genuinely curious.
