Leftover tamale dressing which rocked, leftover homemade proper chili, red onions, sharp as fuck cheddar.

Eating it from a big serving bowl which annoys the wife, adding to the enjoyment.

not enough cheese.

Gotta eat that leftover ham. Somehow missed out on leftover cranberry so I settled for rasp chipooodle sauce. Grilled monte shanko’s.

Damn son, those are some thick lines of coke. I'm not judging, I'm just wondering if I could partake.

Weez gonna have some Sweet Sue canned chicken and jelly, possum pecker soup, squirrel stew, momma's yeast biscuits, corn, greens and all washed down with moonshine.

No squirrel gravy?

I have a friend who lives in Breaux Bridge, Louisiana, and their grocery store carries squirrel, which is packaged and displayed with all meat and poultry like it's no big thing.  And she has a Cajun cookbook with a recipe for squirrel gumbo.

What about coon fricassee?

Never tried, but I recall seeing a couple of animated documentaries as a child in which a chef named Elmer tried to prepare fricassee rabbit. He was also a big fan of rabbit stew.

That was a different documentary show. The cook for that one was named Sam. He was foul-mouthed and ill-tempered, setting the stage for the celebrity chefs to come some 40-50 years later.

You sure about that? The central character doesn't pan out.

Last time I ate squirrel, it was one my brother and a buddy of our's shot at.

I say "shot at" instead of "shot" because they had wandered off with a 12 gauge loaded with bird shot while a whole group of us were spending the weekend just drinking beer, grilling, and wandering around a several hundred acre property my dad's friend owns in the (relative to Iowa) heavily wooded and rugged area near the Mississippi River.  It was still pheasant season, and the property contained about 80 acres of prairie.  About 20 minutes after they left the hunting cabin, we hear a few shotgun blasts, quickly followed by some war whoops.  They come running up to the cabin with the dead squirrel.

We start skinning it to fry it up with the campfire breakfast that was being prepared at the moment.  Obviously being as they had been loaded with bird shot, we're being very vigilant to remove the bbs whilst prepping the squirrel.  We did not find a single one.

Only thing that made any sense was that they fired in the direction of the squirrel, missed it completely, but the blast was so startling that it had a heart attack and fell out of the tree.

What we mean by “Chili Three Ways” in Texas.

8e8e2ac1d3eff1698a33ac108eacf751.jpg

1. Chili dog w/ cheese hinge deployment. Shredded chee placed atop the hinge prior to dog installation for added stability.

2. Toasted tort, Fritos, mac and chee, chili, onions.

3. Frito pie (Fritos, shredded chee, chili, moar chee, onions).

Ice cold beer.
