Arch Manning Being "Arch"

Random question but how do QBs work on QB sneaks if they can't get touched in practice?

Tush push with Arch should be an absolute slam dunk in short yardage next year but QB sneaks are a skill that he probably needs to develop. The between the legs direct snap is a great counter to keep defenses honest too.

Also, agree with others that he seems to need some work on not fumbling.

Texas isn’t going to do that with Arch. He  is a legit QB with mobility. Sark will give him some read and punish defenses, if they ignore him. Sark isn’t going to make Arch’s legs a major part of the run game. I’ll bet there are more games Arch doesn’t get a called run, than games where Arch gets 5 runs called for him

With Quinn gone next year and Arch being the new QB1, how do Surly posters play their roles going forward? Do the Quinn lovers become the Arch apologists because they just like to root for the incumbent? I think I saw Jimmyjazz defending the RT hire tooth and nail and then he defended Quinn as if his life depended on it. Maybe some fans just want to be the propaganda arm of the athletic department like Texags.

Does everyone who was calling for Arch to start this year now start calling for the next backup if Arch struggles? Curious to see how it plays out next year.

When do we start the Trey Owens thread?

Shortly before KJ Lacey's ...

I wonder how long, or if, we can keep all three on the roster. I think Owens, in particular, was underrated. Oh well, all of them still have to definitively show they can play at this level and expect growing pains. The OL probably takes a step back for a bit I imagine.

As for this season, I'd like to have seen Arch get more snaps than he did down the stretch for his development. I really disliked him coming in for only a single snap, run only situations. I think it exposed him to a greater risk of injury and limited his development. I suspect this was largely due to Sark wanting to dampen controversy noise. Water under the bridge at this point.

I do think there is a lot that gets lost in these discussions and people want it to be a QB1 vs QB2. You can be critical of the QB1 without thinking that the backup should start. There were a couple times this season where maybe starting Arch made sense, but really a lot of people just wanted Quinn to play better and our team to utilize the tools we have more effectively, arch being one of those tools.

When Arch struggles, I’ll be critical of Arch. It Owens were to show he had some added value for the offense then I’m sure people would want to utilize that. I doubt that’s the case but it’s possible.
This year was a bit different then most with the QB1 vs QB2 debate because the two players had vastly different skill sets.

That’s not exactly how remember it. I think people wanted to see James Brown some, but also Shea Morenz was there with a lot of hype. Also Connor Wood.

Jesus Christ, watching this made me realize just how much of a statute Quinn is. People say that Sark doesn’t want use much QB run game, but he’s not against roll outs and QB keepers just not using your QB as a battering ram in the Zone Read. I think our offense is going to be so much better next year because  of roll outs that can also be QB counters in the red zone that Quinn had no chance of making are going to be back on the menu.

Once you get into conference play, QB development takes a back seat unless you are blowing teams out. Our offense looked like it was running uphill most of the season. It does no good to show that we have a starter quality backup on the bench, because people will be screaming for him more than they already were when Quinn struggled.

Also everything is a tick faster with Arch compared to Quinn. The drop backs, play action, footwork, decision making. A bit more urgency and tempo overall. It will pay off.

No one was ever calling for Snead to start. Colt was in Heisman contention as a freshman.

Hahahahaha.    I'm too lazy to look up archives,  but there were those in shaggy who called for Colt to be benched his Sophomore year.  Granted, he was playing with a shoulder injury that had his deeper throws being under thrown which led to a few ints.

Snead wasn’t on the team during colts sophomore year. He was enrolled at Ole Miss.

There were morons calling for Chiles to start and discussing of a two QB set. Colt also threw 18 INTs as a sophomore so you can understand why people weren’t as sold on him at the time.

And his INTs that year were usually over the middle. I think you’re thinking of his freshman year post Kst.

This is not true. Plenty of people wanted Snead to start over McCoy at the beginning of the season. After colt gets hurt and loses last two games of the year resulting in OU sneaking into Big 12 champ game people were pissed. There was Cart McCry memes everywhere by Aggies and others.

Snead transfers and sits out sophomore year, while Colt has his sophomore slump and loses to OU, while also fucking up against KSU in a monsoon and A&M again. People were wishing Snead was still around as an option on message boards.

Snead beats Tim Tebow and Florida in September while Colt is still getting warmed up for his best season on campus as a Junior.

You mean people wanted the 5 star to start over the 3 star when no one had seen them play. God damn you’re dense dude.

Using Aggy to support what you’re saying should be a fatwa level offense

Yes. And then they wanted him that offseason after Colt lost to two unranked teams to give Bob Stoops another Big 12 title. Then when Jevan Snead was was no longer on campus and Colt had his sophomore slump we created the Q package for Chiles and people weee longing for Snead even though he wasn’t there. Then Snead beats Florida and Tim Tebow in September and people again brought him up. By end of year it didn’t matter cause Colt had his legendary junior season.

It was his Sophomore year, he had 22 tds to 18 ints.   I even remember some bitching because we didn't land Chase Daniels instead of Colt.

So when I said no one was calling for Snead to start because Colt was a heisman contender, you somehow thought that was a discussion about the offseason and a player that didn’t play here? Snead didn’t play in 07 either you fucking dunce.

I'm not saying to design a bunch of run plays for him. I'm talking old school QB sneaks with 1 yard to go. Even his slow ass uncles did those.

What in the fuck are you even going on about? I said another poster probably meant Snead.

Snead did play in 06-07 season when he almost brought the team back against KSU (45-42) when Colt had his stinger. Colt and the team ended the year losing to A&M, two unranked teams and fans were pissed.

Sophomore year, which I already fucking acknowledged he wasn’t here for, fans on the internet still pined for while Colt had his sophomore slump.

We were still hearing Snead’s name in Texas message boards longing for him after beating Tebow and Number 4 Florida in September in 2008.

See a doctor about that bleeding.

Quick, how many games did Snead play in 2007? You think people wanted Snead because he beat Florida, in a season we were undefeated and Colt won the Maxwell award? sure guy.
I love that you keep following me around making period jokes lol. I didn’t realize you were such a strident follower of my works. It’s nice to have a fan.
