Well, they only have themselves to blame for giving up an 80 yard fucking TD right before the half against OSU. Stop that and we are national champions.

They did hold OSU to 21. That is a pretty good outcome. The offense scored 20 or less in 5 of the last 7 games in regulation. There is the 11 turnovers in the last 6 games also. They did not get a lot of help.

Didn't oklahoma beat them in Columbus? That's where Baker planted the flag, I believe.

You are so correct and thank you for pointing it out. It must be nice though to count on one hand how many home losses a school has experienced in 20+ years.

The fun thing about the expanded playoff is that you can just enjoy a competitive early season nonconference game for what it is and not worry that your chances for a championship have tanked before you play a down of football in conference.

It surely doesn’t have the high stakes like the 4 or 2 team playoff, but the way the committee treated losses this year still gives this game some gravitas. If Texas or OSU gets left out with three losses, you can say goodbye to these heavyweight non conference matchups. It would be horrible for the sport, but why play them if the risk is so much greater than the reward?

A 3 loss Texas next year would get in. Bama had 2 of their 3 losses to spares this year. Had Bama had an early season loss to Oregon, a loss to Tenn, and a loss to OU. They wouldve gotten in. Instead they got punked by Vandy.

You will get no argument from me here. I agree the offense didnt do enough and let us down all year, but the defense needed to be perfect to win a title and that play is what cost us.

Yep. It’s who you lose to and Bama and Ole Miss had shitty losses.

All Bama had to do was beat a terrible OU team and they are 100% in. It wasn't even a fluke loss, they just got their ass kicked all night. Bama was as inconsistent as I have seen them in forever. Offense looks all world against a good Georgia team, looks like dog shit against OU.

That's been the argument since the BCS era and it's never come to fruition. The TV $$$ are too great, and so is the allure of being able to trumpet a huge win over a big-name opponent for the rest of the season. Aside from that, the Appalachian States and NIUs will handle a big name opponent every few years, and no one talks about an early-season loss at Texas or Bama the same way they talk about a close win or getting bent against some nobody.

Vandy isn't why they didn't get in. It was their absolutely horrendous late-season disappearance act in Norman that kept them out.

Edit: Nvm, I see that was covered by @Vic Mackey.

The winners get the rewards, not the losers.  Where is this idea coming from that losses shouldn't hurt you?
