You can't just say that and not post the video.

That reception for Yormark was far too kind but of course there were more people on the field at Jerryworld than there were in that building

You mean the Allstate 12?

If Yormark pulls this off you can expect to see the Coca-Cola/State Farm/Waffle House Southeastern Conference or some damn thing soon enough.

I'm going to massively disagree with you on this. The SEC doesn't need naming rights. It is THE name of college football.

But, let's say the numbers being thrown around are correct - Yormark gets $30MM per year to rebrand the Big 12, "the Allstate Conference" (their name/brand sucks anyway, especially without UT and OU). How much is the SEC gonna be worth?

You're right - it's possible the SEC sees itself as "the brand" in collegiate athletics, but I'd be surprised if Sankey didn't shop it around. Why leave money on the table?

I imagine Sankey knows there's a risk to cheapening your brand long term for bundles up front. There has to be a buffer eventually for college football against just allowing the whole thing to be lined up in front of a corporate firing squad. There's also big business to lose by becoming The Cheez It/Manscape/Saudi Wahhabist Bonesaw Conference.

Me, "Does your conference have insurance?"

Brett Rosenberg, "Yeah, but it was through a friend.  At AllState."

Me, "Who are my clients?  Why you wanna sue Texas?"

Sol Yormark, "Sue you.  Sue everybody!"

In the 80s, Gattis had a centralized call center with one phone number to order pizza anywhere in austin: 459-2222

(you will recall - if you were born - that 10-digit dialing did not become mandatory until '94 - before then you could dial a 7-digit number within an area code)

Sophomore year Jester East #507, telephone number was 495-2222

We averaged 5-ish misdials a day and got sick of it, so we started answering "Gattis" and taking orders

If you didn't get your pizza from august 85 through may 86, welp, now you know why

Wrong sport for this board, but this is where “Fuck Brett Yormark” resides.

Poor Bretty, he really thought he had it.

I was absolutely pulling for Houston, but if there is a silver lining to their loss, it is to fuck Brett Yormark.

Gatti’s while at school, my buddies would scoff at me, as I’d insist to go inside and eat my small personal pizza. The intent or MO for me was to eat the pre-mixed Taco/Mexican Salad, already mixed at the salad bar. That stuff never failed me!

Houston’s claim to fame is still mens college golf. Numerous NCs over the decades. They were OSU before OSU became a golf school. Hell the Cowboys’ golf coach became the AD for a short stint.

Meh...

I forgot Chet Gladchuk. Rep to anyone that can cite the reason....

Outside of Chet being the UH AD during the late ‘90s, I really don’t know. Most of the Coogs’ golf success died with the end of the SWC. My buddy/friend, Tray Tyner, was one of the last Cougars to win a SWC Championship (individually) prior to the B12.

He was the asshat behind BleacherGate, where he came up with the ingenious scheme to put up some TinkerToy temp bleachers in his high school stadium and sell them to Texss fans, only to have them condemned the day before the game. DeLoss had suggested long beforehand playing at a larger venue in Houston but Gladchuk and whatever Jabroni head coach they had at the time insisted on playing in that ghetto shithole. Dodds was furious and after that home and home was done in 01/02 Texas never played them again in football until our final Rig12 season.

You bring back the memories of cinder blocks holding up bleachers/scaffolding the days prior to that game. UH was too prideful to even move the game to Rice’s stadium, because that’s what DD suggested for maximum gate/crowd. Rice wasn’t even “home” that weekend, so no conflict.

A lot of programs used being in the same conference as Texas as justification for thinking they were equivalent to Texas in program status.

When the SWC folded, Texas was willing to play the “Left Behinds” located in Houston, for recruiting reasons. These games with UH and Rice were set up as two games in Austin for one in Houston. Then, UH showed in Bleachergate that they didn’t know their place, so they were dropped from the rotation.

I know no one wants to play the UH’s, Baylor’s, TCU’s and TT’s anymore, but I’m sure after time passes, there will be talk about it again. My hope is that Bellmont insists that any game played in this state must be played in a stadium large enough to hold all the Longhorn fans in the area that want to go.
