The big picture, the strategy, the offense/defense/special teams combined reflect the reality that Iowa tries to win without a lot of talent. The staff takes a lot of pride on doing things their way, it can seem very stubborn. They feel more proud of themselves when the o-line is a bunch of guys with basically zero other offers. Skill positions have been a weak spot for Iowa for decades. The schemes reflect the lack of the speed and skill on the outside.

As much as Iowa gets mocked, they consistently find ways to win. Ferentz receives a lot of criticism for someone who has won as much as he has. I'd much rather have Iowa's style of play, which is about toughness and fundamentals, as opposed to Colorado's style, which is about flash and arrogance.

Now imagine Colorado with Iowa’s offensive and defensive line talent and Iowa with Colorado’s offensive and defensive line talent.

Son, it's time to back away from the crack pipe.

This game is an example of Iowa’s bullshit luck. Their only TD was on a drive where they didn’t actively pick up a first down. It was all Minnesota penalties. Including bailing them out of a goal line stand up. Minnesota also missed a FG due to a crazy wind gust.

  1. A valid or invalid fair catch signal deprives the receiving team of the opportunity to advance the ball. The ball is declared dead at the spot of the catch or recovery or at the spot of the signal if the catch precedes the signal.

https://rulebook.github.io/en/rules/2/sections/8/#:~:text=A valid or invalid fair, the catch precedes the signal.

it’s a rule

But I don’t see how that is considered an invalid fair catch signal

Yes.  Trophy games are a thing in the B1G, and it's cool.

There are some pretty good ones. And pretty good origin stories for some.

The little brown jug: Michigan coach Fielding Yost suspected that Minnesota would taint the water supply in a 1903 game in Minneapolis, so he ordered a manager to buy a water jug of their own. After Michigan left it behind following a 6-6 tie, it became the series’ traveling trophy.

The Illibuck trophy: when Illinois and Ohio State decided they needed a rivalry trophy in 1925, they picked a live turtle; the animal’s long lifespan was meant to show the anticipated longevity of the Illinois-Ohio State rivalry. But the turtle died just two years later (according to the University of Illinois Library, it spent his two years living in fraternity houses and other campus buildings and died of stress.)

A trophy game or two would be fine, but every Big Ten team has a trophy game with every other team. It's fucking lame.

Also, definitely an improper fair catch signal, fuck Iowa

You don’t like the land grant trophy?

I’ve never even heard of that rule. And I don’t even think what returner did even qualified as it

Saw something similar happen earlier today in the Tenn.-Ala game on a kickoff, and it wasn't even the receiver who fielded the kick.  It was his teammate who was also back deep.

DeJean seems like the real deal.  I don't know how he escaped on the sideline there.

Minnesota fucked up.  Iowa’s opponents always do.

Unless they’re playing a blue blood.

DeJean is a badass though.  As much as I hate to say it.

I almost want to watch to see how it’s possible to gain 2 yards in a half.

Also, isn’t that the correct call on the fair catch? He’s flailing his arms and looks like he’s waiving people off but he is actually approaching the ball and eventually picked it up, if I’m on the cover team I can’t see the ball and might consider it a fair catch signal and back off.
