Try being in a classroom with 32 high schoolers. 1/4 phones went off at 1:17. After those were done, another 1/4 went off at 1:18, followed by the rest at 1:19. Good times.

Did you tell the class to hold on and put down their pencils because you have to post this on Surly right now? I hope you did.

The amount of time people are going to spend talking/bitching about a 5-second alarm today is wild.

It's either bitch about this or get back to work.

We're 72 hours away from the OU game. Do you think I'm doing any actual teaching this week?!?

That was intense. Was waiting outside of the dealership waiting for them to drive my vehicle to me and all of the mechanic phones blew up at once. Lulz

Holy cow that was loud

My phone was on silent and it didn't make a sound. If I hadn't been on the crapper reading Surly, I would have missed it.

That was somewhat annoying, not nearly as much as when I was chaperoning a band overnight lockin at the HS; and about 3:30 am the state police decided to send an amber alert for a little kid who had been missing for 12 hours from a city over 100 miles away. About 100 phones go off at once & of course the kids go full panic.

What’s crazy was my phone was on vibrate. Think it pinged my watch then went bananas.
was weird

Well, 30 minutes after the Alert my Spectrum TV, Internet, and Landline bundle went down.
And as of 7:15pm it is still down.

Should be able to opt out.

That's all I have to say.  Blasting my phone is bullshit.

What's the over/under on how many "discretely hidden" burner phones are going to get discovered on Wednesday?

So if you turned it off around in advance, and waited half an hour to turn it back on, everything was cool.

LOLz.  yeah, my thoughts are not wrapped in tin-foil.  My questions are a lot more pragmatic.

I turn notifications off on virtually every ap and device I have.  When I want to look at the weather report, I know where to look, hell there's even a window in my house.  If I want to check my bank statement, I know where to look.  If something is fucked up in traffic, I will check a navi ap.

i don't need the interruption.  Just let people opt out.  Why is it necessary?  It's a service I do not want.

That's what my phone does.   Yell at clouds.

Thanks for the new feature, I guess.

Nobody can rationally tell me why I need this/ life is better because of it.

So get rid of your phone.  I mostly agree with you. We don’t need these things.

Instead of this, a service the gov't needs to provide, that would be of real social benefit, would be to periodically and randomly send every phone pics of hot naked women.   That way, when your phone buzzes with pic of your mistress sending you a preview of the weekend's menu, and your wife sees it, you can gripe loudly "Goddammit, another one of those stupid government tests!  I wish we could just opt out!"

I have lots of good ideas.

Another one is "feed tuna fish mayonnaise."

This type of brilliance is up there with Eli Lilly making "Daily Use" Cialis. If you take it every day, your wife can't count your pills...

I’ve had two different people talk about how we didn’t have these national emergency tests until the past few years.  Both of them are younger, but still, I had to point out to them that at some point, they had their Daniel Tiger show interrupted by a test of the Emergency Broadcast System and that olds like me grew up terrified of this sound

Can't be anyone older than 40 (which is most of the people bitching about this) because we've all heard that test a million times while listening to the radio or watching TV.  Seriously... selective memory or just a bunch of olds who need to bitch about something.

LOL from 6 years ago...

C'mon man - you need a phone for your wife to know about, and another "work" phone that is for the call-in late night projects and such. Just don't leave it out on the couch, I mean otherwise we have learned nothing from the exploits of one Tiger Woods.
Or like my friends in gov't work, their FOIA phone and their non-FOIA phone.
