Religion can be a problem

People can be a huge problem

People who organize religions may be the biggest problems problem of all.

the absolute best people I know are religious.  The absolute worst people I know are religious.  Everybody else in the middle is probably atheist.  I dunno, I quit listening to them about ten seconds after they start talking about atheism before they can get to cross fit and how well they know the constitution.

Additional update this morning - the principal has filed paperwork to take a leave of absence for the rest of the school year.  I think he'll end up resigning or being fired, but this looks like an interim step.  Assuming this is not the first time he's pulled something similar to this, but it does appear to be the first time it has gotten out to the general public.  I still think there's something else to this story that just hasn't come out yet.

I feel like we've seen this story before, and the big reveal is coming up soon.   The only plot twist is what kind of stuff the guy was into?  regular porn? illegal porn? drugs? booze? little boys?   For my entertainment, I hope it's at least something new.

Real Life is as bad as Hollywood at re-using old stories.

I quoted you but was really responding to the classic obfuscation posted up-thread.   Religion, of any stripe, has really bad people involved and really good people who enable the really bad ones.  The sooner the good ones wake up and do something about it the better. It's exactly the same with CrossFit.

How long before Fox makes this guy a martyr to woke cancel culture and DeSantis, Haley and Tim Scott compete to take him on tour?

Not joking. I think that's what will happen. I think they are going to Rittenhouse Principal St Pierre.

Rittenhouse St Pierre is the cuck porn "star" that sits in the corner and cries while his wife gets gang-banged.

There’s a thing with the religious where they think that since their religion guides their morals and in a good way, that everyone else that espouses their same religion have the same guidance and same morals.  That’s a bad supposition.  As we know, there are those that use that purposefully to cause harm, and there are those that twist it to rationalize their actions.

In addition, there’s the idea that the bad things need to stay hidden so they don’t tarnish the “brand” basically. That leads to hiding assault on religious campuses and by clergy.  And when you hide the acts, you can’t punish the perpetrators so you embolden their actions and invite bad actors into the space.

This is an ignorant take.  I was raised Presbyterian.  Our church was absolutely loaded with very good people.  We served the community, we funded all kinds of projects, we welcomed foreign students into our congregation, we walked the walk.

There was not one fucking thing we could have done about "evangelical" Baptists.  Nothing.  They wouldn't listen, they just got more and more horrible.  Exactly what power do you think one Christian denomination has over another?

Same here, but from the Episcopal Church.  We serve the community around us, are inclusive, and don't pretend that they way we worship is the correct way above others.

I guess the best we can do is say, "Look, we're not all like them."  But we can't prevent their horrible takes on Christianity.

+checking in after 3 days,  very surprised to see no news that the principle either tried to touch, touched, or was rejected from touching, by the Class President.

figured the chances of that were upwards of 90% when the article first came out.

instead hes just going to walk away and lose his job, and probably cross one of the 3 bordering state lines to get a job teaching in new state next year.

You should’ve killed them. Problem solved.

I do believe we have plenty of people doing good when it comes to Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, Baha’i…etc. I learned that at a certain point you cannot convince a person who thinks you are culpable for the actions of others you have no influence over that, indeed, you really have no influence over them. I cannot make a lunatic and unhinged evangelical Baptist see the error of their ways. All each of us can do is all we can do and that’s it. You do your best to help others and perhaps the example is followed.

Naaah.  The post above is dead right.  He'll end up making big bucks on the Fox News/CPAC circuit.  Prepare to see his face on the next poster for some "PATRIOTIC CONSERVATIVE LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE!" or some shit, under the title "Hero Christian Principal."

Southern Baptist males area raised to think they are superior to women and anyone who is different from them. That train of thought leads them to believe they have every right to tell others how to live. Especially women.

They are a truly despicable cult of patriarchal horse shit.

I thought the principal's apology and explanation was solid. He admitted he was wrong and explained how he was fixing his mistake. Too many people recite a non-apology apology but he owned his mistake. He sounds like a jackass overall but I don't see any problems with what he wrote.

It's a pretty bad apology, but more than that, unfortunately, he says multiple things that both the kid and her mother are disputing that
1) There is no meeting scheduled, because the mom refused to take it and
2) It's too late to get the scholarship
3) The kid did not bring up religion, the principal did - he apparently gave her a scripture bracelet.

From the mom, apparently:
"

Hello, this is Rachel Timonet, mother of Kaylee Timonet regarding the messages posted about a scheduled meeting this is NOT true, I was called and asked to come in on Sunday to have a meeting, but my lawyer advised me otherwise. The scholarship cannot be reinstated because the due date was October 3rd and cannot be changed. Also, regarding the religious views, this was brought up by the Principal and the Ms, Becnel, not Kaylee at all, Bibles versus were printed and a Jesus bracelet was even given to Kaylee.

That tracks pretty well with what I'm hearing here locally - that chunks of the principal's statement is not true and/or stretching the truth.

It does appear that he and Ms Becnel - one of the senior administrators at the school, lectured Rachel for about an hour with bible scriptures and even printed them out to give to her.

Surprisingly, there don't appear to be very many people defending the principal.  The general consensus is that this was a terrible and sustained lapse in judgement and given that he's been in the business for 30 years, can't be the only time he's done something like this.  People are waiting for the inevitable disclosures to come out regarding previous students and similar behavior.  It seems what is dividing most people is whether or not he deserves to lose access to his entire pension after he is fired or resigns, or if just the firing/resignation is penalty enough.  Everyone is aware that the Parish school system is going to get sued and they are going to lose - with the question being just how much money is this going to cost the taxpayers.

He should be dragged as much as legally possible.   Assholes like this who think they can lord their religion over children in a public school (or anyone else) need to be sent notice.  It's insane that this cult shit is still happening in 2023.

It's going to get worse.  Much worse.  Your legislature is presently meeting to figure out how to make it so, right here in Texas.

To that point, the lege has already passed a law to let schools fire their counseling staff in favor of unlicensed chaplains

The horrific people, not the actual written word, are the issue and have been since day one. Jesus asked people to show love to everyone. The abomination that has followed through the centuries are pretty much right in line with how humans inevitably treat others.

Absolutely. The men are dominant theme in their construct of society is both extremely outdated as well as  harmful to society as a whole because of the actions it leads to them taking in the name of God. The distortion of what is written and what actually occurs through the actions of these religious terrorists is astounding.

The problem is, that the Evangelicals are the face of American Christianity, like it or not.  As the saying goes, perception is reality.

I get it.  I was raised Methodist and we were lukewarm, at that.  We went every Sunday and volunteered but, at home outside of grace at dinner, there were very few religious conversations and my parents were from the "live and let live" philosophy.

I never took to religion.  From a very early age, I was skeptical of the whole concept.  That questioning happened about the same time I found out there was no Santa.

Now that I'm an atheist, seeing the Christian religion try to make laws that match their beliefs and their desire to be in everyone's private business infuriates me.

Worship your fucking sky daddy and leave the rest of us the fuck alone.

My anecdotal evidence says Southern Baptist females aren't much better, but I guess that's what happens when you're brainwashed to believe everyone else is going to Hell.

Someone explain to me why principles have what amounts to qualified immunity like cops? I get that the idea is taxpayers should elect non retarded people, and hire non bigoted zealots like this fuckhead, but should taxpayers have to pay for this when even most of them think it’s fucked up? Take away his fucking pension and give it to her.
