Maybe the Oilers need yet another number 1 pick in next years draft. I’m sure that will solve all of their problems.

I'm legitimately not sure what impresses me more: How bad their drafting outside the first round has been for the past 20 years, or the fact that literally everyone in that timespan that's been taken outside the first round that's been worth a damn had to do it through a different organization (Marino, Gustafson, Reider). Skinner might break that trend but he might not get the chance long-term if he keeps having to play behind that dumpster fire defense.

The Minnesota Wild on Monday fired coach Dean Evason after a disastrous start to their season.

John Hynes, who previously coached the Nashville Predators and the New Jersey Devils, will take over as coach, an NHL source confirmed to ESPN.

Evason and assistant coach Bob Woods were both let go. The Wild are 5-10-4 (14 points) and are mired in a seven-game winless streak. They have only four regulation wins this season, tied for second fewest in the NHL.

Perry said he's seeking professional help for substance abuse.

"I have started working with experts in the mental health and substance abuse fields to discuss my struggles with alcohol, and I will take whatever steps necessary to ensure this never happens again. I hope to regain the trust and respect of everyone who has believed in me throughout my career," said Perry, who is now an unrestricted free agent.

Davidson said the team was first notified of the allegations last week when the Blackhawks were in Columbus, Ohio, to play the Blue Jackets on Nov. 22.

Sources told ESPN's Emily Kaplan that Perry traveled with the team to Columbus last Tuesday, a day before the game, and an incident occurred that day involving a team employee. Perry was scratched from the game and an investigation into the incident began.

Pretty uncharacteristic of Ovi.

I believe it’s 11 games and counting since Ovie’s last goal.  Apparently, the new coach didn’t get the memo that he’s chasing Gretzky.  That or the owner has been too preoccupied with Virginia real estate to remind him where the franchise bread is buttered.

Hell, the Caps don’t even run the PP thru Ovie’s office these days.  😳

Holy fuck this thread has been dead for nearly a month. Anyway, US on to the gold medal game at the world juniors. Finland gave us a nice scare for a bit there. That BC line centered by Will Smith is unbelievable.

Jets out in first of the entire NHL as of now. I took a screenshot of it, 'cause I know it won't last.

Side bar, watching the Bruins feed of the Avalache game... is the B's play by play guy drunk, did he have a stroke, or am I just an asshole?

Just how he speaks. Rumor has it he loves hitting the bong but I’ve never heard of any actual evidence of this.

The Philadelphia Flyers said top prospect Cutter Gauthier didn't want to play for them, so they sent him packing Monday, trading the forward to the Anaheim Ducks for defenseman Jamie Drysdale and a 2025 second-round draft pick.

Flyers general manager Danny Briere told reporters that the trade "was a long time coming." Briere said when the team drafted Gauthier that the forward told the front office that he was "built to be a Flyer and wanted to be a Flyer" before ultimately changing his mind.

"Maybe a few months later, he told us he didn't want to be a Flyer and didn't want to play for the Flyers," Briere said. "So, in our mind at first, we have to protect him. If he changes his mind again, and it's out there that he doesn't want to play, it's going to be tough for him to put the uniform on."

After Monday night's 4-1 loss to Pittsburgh, coach John Tortorella was succinct when asked about Gauthier not wanting to play for Philadelphia.

"Then we don't want you," Tortorella said.

The Flyers had selected Gauthier with the fifth pick of the 2022 NHL draft with the expectation that the hulking forward would be part of their future once he left Boston College, where he is a sophomore.

Tortorella was asked if he was surprised by Gauthier's decision.

"I don't know Cutter from a hole in the wall," Tortorella said. "I'm not too interested in talking about him. I rather talk about Jamie. He's the guy who's coming here."

He’s a homer, sure. Might be one of the biggest in the league in terms of pbp guys but I think it’s funny to listen to fans of other teams bitch and moan about a Bruins guy being partial to the Bruins on a local broadcast. Also, he’s not even from Boston, much less even Mass. Think he grew up in the Midwest and moved to New Hampshire for university. I can assure you most people living in and around Boston do not speak like him.

I'm not dogging on him, just pointing out how much his pxp stands out compared to others. Guess I'm spoiled with Josh and Razor with the Stars. And I expect home announcers to be homers - that's half the reason to listen to an opposing broadcast. sometimes it's fun listening to the other team bitch about yours. cheers

Meh, people get after Mark Moser for being an Avs homer. Your local broadcast team should be homers.

Corey Perry is signing a one-year deal to finish the season with the Edmonton Oilers, sources told ESPN on Sunday.

The contract will include performance bonuses and be prorated to the league minimum, the sources said.

Perry, 38, had his contract terminated by the Chicago Blackhawks in November. After an internal investigation, the Blackhawks said Perry violated club policies in what was described as a workplace matter. General manager Kyle Davidson declined to disclose specifics but said it was not a criminal matter.

Perry, in a statement, apologized for his "inappropriate and wrong" behavior and said he was entering professional treatment for alcohol abuse and mental health.

The Oilers are on a franchise-record 13-game winning streak -- an incredible turnaround following a slow start that prompted a coaching change.

Several teams had explored signing Perry, sources said.

And Patrick Roy coaches the Islanders now.

50 years ago, today.  Lots of great memories and a bunch of “what ifs” …

My first Caps game was against Montreal with a goalie named Dryden and a bunch of other future Canadien HoFers.  It was an ugly game ... but, a beautiful sport … and I was hooked.  Let’s Go Caps!

Listen, I love shitting on the Oilers as much as anyone, but I like the Corey Perry signing. He will be asked to do two things: 1. Be a complete scumbag rat, and 2. Be a net front presence on second unit PP.

Five players from Canada's 2018 world junior team have taken a leave of absence from their current clubs in recent days amid a report that five members of that team have been asked to surrender to police to face sexual assault charges.

Michael McLeod and Cal Foote of the New Jersey Devils, Carter Hart of the Philadelphia Flyers, Dillon Dube of the Calgary Flames and former NHL player Alex Formenton, who is now playing in Europe, all have been granted indefinite leave, with the absences announced in the past four days.
