"Not unless round's funny."

It's been too long since I've watched this.  It's brilliant.  It's as if every line in the movie is perfect.

/also, if there's already a thread (I couldn't believe there didn't appear to be) on this, blame the site's search function.

It even has a John Hughes-style ending.  I can't believe Trey Wilson Nathan Huffines-Arizona died at 41.

They've got a name for people like you H.I. That name is called "recidivism."

Repeat offender!

Not a pretty name, is it H.I.?

No, sir. That's one bonehead name, but that ain't me any more.

You're not just telling us what we want to hear?

No, sir, no way.

'Cause we just want to hear the truth.

Well, then I guess I *am* telling you what you want to hear.

Boy, didn't we just tell you not to do that?

Yes, sir.

Okay, then.

Say that reminds me, how’d you get that kid so darn fast? Me and Dot went in to adopt on account a’ somethin’ went wrong with my semen, and they said we had to wait five years for a healthy white baby. I said, “Healthy white baby? Five years? What else you got?” Said they got two Koreans and a negra born with his heart on the outside. It’s a crazy world.

I didn't realize it either until pretty recently. I was casually watching Bull Durham (again) a few weeks ago and as I'm wont to do from time to time hit the 'Info' button on DirecTV to see how old Trey was when Bull Durham was filmed. That's when I realized he was only 40 at the time, which was surprising in itself and also that he died the following year. That sent me down a Wiki/IMDB rabbit hole, which is how I learned he'd been cast in the Albert Finney role in Miller's Crossing when he died. I love Miller's Crossing so much and Albert Finney is just perfect as Leo, it's hard for me to imagine Nathan Arizona in that role. I also learned that Trey went to Bellaire HS in Houston.

I’ve always thought that the long opening with H.I.’s narration and the banjo playing leading up to the title sequence is fantastic.

It's fantastic.  I was whistling the intro bits all weekend.  Title hits the screen, the yodeling starts.  Absolutely chill-inducing brilliance.

It's up there with The Departed, Pulp Fiction, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and Casino Royale, as far as pre-title sequences go.

I think I remember Layer Cake also had a good one.

This is going to be a minority opinion but I think the opening sequence to Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom is better than the opening to Raiders, which is iconic with the rolling, large boulder. I'm also in the minority in that I actually like Doom quite a bit, though I know as a whole Raiders is far superior.

I love Temple as well, and it has a great opening sequence, but Raiders is just a far superior sequence.

Also, another great Raising Arizona line I use is "so many social engagements, so little time"

That's a good one for sure. It also reminds me that Raiders of the Lost Ark does not technically have a pre-title sequence.  I'd call it more of an opening scene.

How many Pollacks it take to screw up a lightbulb?

I don't know, Glen. One?

Nope, it takes three.

Wait a minute, I told it wrong. Here, I'm startin' over: How come it takes three Pollacks to screw up a lightbulb?

I don't know, Glen.

'Cause they're so darn stupid!
