Season 5 was underrated, but had more potential.  Unlike all of Raylan's other foils, the Crowe family had no goal.  They were pure, Florida, white, trash.  All they ever set out to do was to be trashier than the day before.  That's dangerous.  Recast Darrell Crowe, and keep Danny Crowe around a bit longer, and Season 5 coulda be as good as Season 2.

Season 2 and 3 just gets better and better, then a slight dip in S4 and 5, then finishes with a bang in S6.

Disagree. 2>4>3.

5 is easily the low point though.

I liked the stay frosty reference in the school too.  Can't find a clip of it on youtube though.

The fact they can put together such a good show with fairly unknown actors is too often overlooked.

Great series, great characters.

Raylen Givens, Arlo Givens, Bo Crowder, Ava Crowder, Mags Bennett, Dickie Bennett, Dewey Crowe, Art Mullen, Judge Reardon.

Agree.  I think Tim was often my favorite one, though.

Tim was a little more subtle. I don't recall them really digging into his character that much.

Put any three or four of the characters I listed into a room together and you have an interesting party. Tim would disappear into the background.

Probably trying to get a good angle for his sniper rifle to take them out.

Spent the last couple of weeks binge watching this show. Phenomenal. As has been said, tons of great characters and all around very entertaining. Finale was perfect.

About halfway through s5 and it’s not nearly the drop off as some of you made it seem.

Only issue is believing that goomba Michael rappaport as Florida swamp trash, but he is pulling it off well enough that I’m coming around.

I like that they don’t have all the Kentucky folk be dumb like Dewey and Ellen may. Most are uneducated, but it’s obvious the guys like Boyd are smart, and they give him some nice phrases and vocabulary to make the point.

Since I started this, I thought I would update.  We just finished Season 1 — we are hooked.  Great writing, very good and interesting characters and acting, well-paced.

I like it so much I have almost forgiven Timothy Olyphant for the terrible acting job he did in “Live Free or Die Hard”

Season 2 is gonna blow your mind. The show has a drastic changed from Season 1 onward.

Halfway through season 6. I’ll save my final thoughts till the end. That said, can’t seem to enjoy a nice evening out these days without Raylan Givens showing up too...

He is. Randomly I spotted him in The Worlds Fastest Indian last night. Which is a great movie btw.

Underrated movie.

The best part of the show is when they introduce a character and you get to wonder how long it will be before Raylan kills them.

Sometimes Tim kills them

The Over / Under is 2 episodes.

Watched the series over the last 3 months.  Really good to great show.  They really couldn't have ended it much better and loved how the last line(s) of the show led straight to the "thank you harlen county residents" credit.

I thought for sure if I searched youtube I'd fine some compilation of all the times Boyd says hi or welcomes Raylan as he walks in, but no.  Would be hilarious to hear over an over "Well Raylan Givens! To what do I owe this most unexpected surprise?!"

Also the show is very bad for somebody trying to cut down on bourbon consumption...

If only we had known that every bourbon they name checked on the show should be bought out posthaste we could have saved some heartache.

(Actually I only remember Pappy and Elmer T Lee).

Bump.

I started this thread soI could see if it was worth watching.  We are now on Season 4 (we mix in other things).  Awesome. My wife and Both love it. Great characters, great writing.  Just sorry there are only 6 seasons...

started this thread a couple weeks ago...

and couldn't even get a bite.  figured at least @BigOrange1 would've surfaced.

i've since finished the show.  ended strong, but i agree, parts of s4/s5 were probably the low point.  when you're in binge mode, some of the stories in those seasons got pretty repetitive and predictable.

not in my top 10, but a solid watch.
