12-1 FUCK AROUND AND FIND OUT

I would imagine that the 12 team playoff quarterfinals and semis will be the NY6 bowls and then a rotating NFL stadium for the championship, like they're doing today. I also think that's part of why they structured it this way that there's still 6 major bowls (fiesta, sugar, rose orange, cotton, peach), even though there's now home games for the first round.

If you can't enjoy a NY6 bowl and some young players getting a lot of run, I'm not sure what you're doing watching college football
I'll enjoy watching it and seeing the future get some real playing time, but it's best to not get too wrapped up in the outcome of such games.

How did we lose to 0U?

Weak-ass D coverage. OU with 75 yards to go, 75 seconds, and no TO, passed for 12, then 15, then 28. Then incomplete but with a poor DPI call (receiver and defender shoving each other all the way, shoulda been no-call) for another 14 yards. Short scramble, TD pass. We had TO left, coulda stopped and regrouped, but...

Our OC was unable to shift into HC mode.

I don't like this mentality mainly bc it belittles our Sugar Bowl win.  I enjoyed watching us thrash and manhandle Georgia.  (Only wish Sam had not supplied the internet with lifelong troll fodder but I digress..)

Gabriel is really good and we gave him too much time.

But we also almost lost to TCU and KState so you keep playing with fire by letting teams hang around, you will get burned. That is why I am not particularly angsty about it. 11-1 is about right for this group. And we should be better next year.

We were back. Unfortunately, it lasted just the off-season.

Holy shit did you rewatch it just for this? Hiring an escort to hit you in the balls over and over would be less painful.

They moved it easily. I'll bet you remember it and don't even have to check or hire someone to hammer your sack.

I went back shortly afterward and looked at the plays and resultant yardage. With 7 or 8 in coverage, every play was wide open. PASS PASS PASS PI RUN PASS for TD.

HC failed to coach DC. I thought he looked like he was too busy being OC planning for OT to  Looks like we may have learned, but Tech's not really much of a challenge.

Hope so. Unless we clean up in the portal, it’s going to depend on some kids who haven’t played much ball.

Still stings. Texas was thoroughly outplayed and outcoached. Honestly really weird for both teams looking back on the full season.

And yeah, the Worthy 4th down facemask screenshotted above absolutely should have been called, but you shouldn't need a new set of downs from a 4th down penalty to score from 1st and goal at the 1. Losing Jake Majors early and having to play Connor Robertson, having basically no JT Sanders, and no Ryan Watts didn't help either. Honestly Texas lost to OU a dozen different ways. Change any one or two of them and the outcome is different. Chalk it up to "weird hit happens in the Cotton Bowl" and hope Texas circles the game next year like OU very obviously did this year (and always seems to).

I think that's my hope for the silver lining of that game. Sark has now been on the receiving end of two all-time OU victories between the 2021 choke and this year's game winning drive. This year he had the definitively better team. I am hoping he is crystal clear on the meaning of that game going forward.

Ah yes, our coach who has previously coached at the Apple Cup, USC - ND, and Iron Bowl didn't clearly understand the meaning of a rivalry game. That was the issue.

Dude he said in a pre game interview he just wanted to have fun! No way he said something different to the team in the locker room or leading up to the game! Not a chance!

Fair, but every year there are guys stepping up for the first time, and there is every reason to think that we can clean up in the portal.

This feels like 2004 to me.  We're finally back where we belong, and we're built to be in the hunt for several more years.

Also it was a game where at start Texas got hit in mouth and kind of reeled. OU came out much hotter/eager and it showed.

Some thought 0U might've had a pretty good idea what our signs were, early in the game. But that's ridiculous, Venables would never have done that.

I am sure he did, but also OU at gate came out playing at least to me flat out harder than Texas. Texas gathered themselves but was playing catch up entire game.

The D Texas played va Tech and ISU in terms of intensity is not what was at outset of OU game.

I am looking forward to seeing Texas mudhole OSU Saturday

Not just at the outset, but also in the last 75 seconds.

And why was that? I think because the HC was not HCing the DC at that point. It looks like that has been a problem for the HC for his entire career. The last few games make it look like the light may have come on. We may hope so, and I do.

Yeah, I hate when the headcoach is calling plays.  Do your job and be a head coach.

That was a hilarious nitpick by the doomers. Nobody ever stopped and thought hey, maybe Steve Sarkisian's idea of a "fun time" is kicking in the skulls of OU.

Agreed wholeheartedly

Going into deep prevent D at that point in the game was so tremendously dumb

We are literally one Florida State loss away from making the playoff

This team might make the playoff and they might not.

What good does posting "we all need to accept that this team is never going to make the playoff?" do? Stop it

One of the few things that I honestly kind of miss about the old days. I remember being fucking ecstatic after the comeback against Washington in the holiday bowl and how pissed I was losing to Oregon the year before.

Last year when we played Washington, it just kind of felt meh.

Regardless of our CFP fate, leaving the B12 as champs would devastate these posters posing as true Texas fans. Even the ones who aren't  closet aggy, Sooners or tortilla tossers seem to be hoping we crash and burn, just so they can keep bemoaning the flaws of Sark, PK, Ewers and most of the secondary. By midafternoon tomorrow I hope these whiners are conspicuous by their absence from the board. I also hope they then stay gone, but I know that's a lot to ask for.

They may have, it’s Venables after all. But unless Texas had signs for “throw it right at the CB that doesn’t move instead of the wide open slant in the slot,” “drop this pass and have it float in the air forever so it is picked,” and “get your shit rocked four times when you need one yard,” I don’t think signals were a big factor. Texas offense was good when it got out of its own way.

Just one of those games unfortunately. Wish it was against Kansas or some shit instead but oh well. The way the team rebounded after the loss has been impressive. Plenty of Texas teams have lost that game, still had or ended up everything in front of them, and failed to capitalize. Close on an outright Big 12 title tomorrow and it’s just a bump in the road.

I thought this thread was about "being in this mother fucker "?

How about the stifling defense this year?

Or the great STs play?

What was your favorite moment or play this year?

Mine was the pick 6 last game. I think that was the only one we had but I am sure you gentlemen and gentlewoman can correct me.

Alabama scores a TD and takes a 16-13 lead at the very end of the third quarter, winning the third quarter 10-0. This coming off a first half where Texas went to the locker room up 13-6 but should have been winning by at least 4 more points. We have seen this movie before.

Texas then proceeds to knife down the field for a TD, pick Alabama off deep in their own territory, and convert a TD on the first play off the turnover, with DJ Campbell blocking two Alabama defenders on the TD run. A three point deficit becomes an 11 point lead in like 90 seconds of game time. That was pretty fucking cool to see them flip the script like that.

Honorable mention to both Sweat and Murphy going off on ISU and holding them to 9 yards rushing after their OL popped off in the media and just demolishing Tech after a year of chirping. That isn’t quite the most electric I’ve ever seen DKR but it is up there.

Honestly my favorite single play in terms of excitement in the moment was probably the J Brooks run to tie the OU game at 27. It felt like after a whole day of shooting themselves in the foot, Texas had finally gotten right and established momentum that was going to win them the game.

I'm in the motherfucker. We're not fully in control of our own destiny, but we've got a damned good chance to make the Final Four.

We sit in 6th or 7th, depending on whose poll you look at; the ones with us 7th have tOSU ahead of us, and tOSU is not going to the finals. At 6th, we're gonna jump the Pac12 loser into 5th, and if Louisville knocks off Free Shoes University, we're in.

Period, end of story.

Almost. Our business now is to try to match UCF and Directional Alabama success against the powerful Cowboys. Literally nobody is expecting us to lose, but it would be a really Good Idea to put up 60+ on them, although not really needful.

C'mon, Louisville.
