I can’t believe the hate this guy used to get. He never had bad numbers, and now he’s pretty inarguably our greatest kicker of all time. Wonder if he’s going to the draft or if he sticks around

I broke his numbers down in a thread last year....it was pretty good for a 1st year year of starting with 80.8 accuracy. He's improved by 4 percent to 84.8..

He is 5 points away from breaking Hunter Lawrence record for points in a season which is currently 133(Auburn is at 129).  That would give him 1st and 3rd in the record books for points in a season.

With another season to go he should get top 3 in total points scored by a kicker in a career at Texas. He's currently at 250.

He currently has 49 field goals made in his career

He might get second in career percentage, maybe even 1st if he continues to be nails into next season.

He's already blown this out of the water this season with 19:

Will probably end up breaking this one as well

If they don't give him 1st team he's  getting fucked, but I would think 2nd or 3rd is a no-brainer.

I think that will go to the Bama kicker as a lifetime achievement award on the way out.

He wasn't even one of the top 20 kickers in the country according to the Lou Groza Award people. I don't know man, we probably shouldn't get our hopes up for national recognition.

Out of curiosity I looked at NCAA stats and Bert has the most attempts in the nation at 34. The only 2 other PK with more than 30 attempts are Bond at aggy and Hale at OkieSt.

I had no idea he wasn’t on scholarship. That’s kinda wild.

That's one thing I'll give mack brown plenty of credit for. I heard him tell a story about early in his career, he passed on giving a kicker a scholarship and that kicker went to a rival and beat them on a last second walk-off. After that, he always set aside a scholarship every recruiting cycle for a kicker to make sure we always had elite kicking, and those kickers really came through. I saw so many games where our ability to kick either kept us in the game or outright won it. All the Dusty Mangums and Ryan Baileys and Justin Tuckers.

Says something that Bert is now atop them all. Sark should reserve a scholly for Texas-caliber kickers going forward.

NIL might make it less important for kickers now.

One incredible thing was how good MB was in close games. Incredible kickers in part made that possible.

That was Mason Crosby from Georgetown, who grew up a Longhorn fan. Ended up at CU and was a 2x AA.

Big time fuck-up by Mack.

Mason had family ties to Colorado, and he also never beat Texas.

Mack was not going to offer him before the start of his senior season, but Colorado did, so he committed.

Wasn’t Ryan Bailey a walk on that got a scholarship?

Yup, he got a scholarship after beating Nebraska in the snow for his first kick ever at UT. That was one of the sweetest Nebraska losses, because they had the game won. If they got a first down, they could run out the clock and win in victory formation. And they actually picked up the 1st down on a 3rd down throw, except the guy fumbled after picking up the first down trying for additional yardage, which gave Colt McCoy just enough time to get us into field goal range. Out previous kicker had missed 2 or 3 during the game already, so Mack sent Ryan Bailey out in relief on that final kick, and he drilled it. One of my favorite games.

One of the away games I most regret not attending. Had the funds, no kids, just needed to take time off from work.

I was in college and my mom and aunt were in Austin for the weekend, so they were over at my house during the game. One of those super vivid college memories. I miss beating Nebraska, Texas made the bug eaters into bitches during my college career.

Bert Auburn could be an All-American candidate in the 2024 season

Patrick Conn       June 11, 2024

image.png.81bde3f841adbee5875d5cbdcae189ff.png

After the 2023 season, T’Vondre Sweat was named a Unanimous All-American. The year before running back Bijan Robinson was named the lone Unanimous All-American for the Texas Longhorns. Offensive tackle Kelvin Banks Jr., wide receiver Xavier Worthy, and defensive tackle Byron Murphy II were also named All-Americans but didn’t earn Unanimous honors.

Looking at the 2024 roster, there is a plethora of talent that could be on the radar as All-Americans including offensive tackle Kelvin Banks Jr., quarterback Quinn Ewers, wide receiver Isaiah Bond, and edge Trey Moore among others.

On Tuesday, Pro Football Focus released their way-too-early All-American team with just one Texas Longhorn making the list.

PFF’s Way-Too-Early All-American Team

image.png.59f043e2435c295625f767f56aa4a582.png

Auburn has been a weapon for the Longhorns over the last couple of seasons. The kicker could be among All-American status for Texas in 2024, along with being a candidate for the Lou Groza Award.

What PFF Says…

Auburn has made plenty of big kicks in his career. He was a perfect 56-of-56 on extra points a season ago and missed only six field goals out of 35 attempts. His 90.5 field-goal grade is a top-10 mark among returning kickers.

Now off to the SEC, Texas is surely going to be in many close games with massive implications in 2024. Auburn will be an asset.

My favorite stat about Texas vs Nebraska as conference members: Texas has a better record vs Nebraska in Lincoln than Austin. Both records are undefeated, but Texas is only 4-0 vs Nebraska in Austin, vs 5-0 vs Nebraska in Lincoln. How fucking pathetic to never win on the road vs a team, and yet still have a worse home record vs them, haha.
