Watching the Clemson kicker make it from 55 yards out with room to spare to win the ACC Championship game doesn't make me feel any better.

That kicker also missed a 44 yarder and went 2 for 3, which was the same exact percentage as the guy who everyone is bitching about.

Yeah, the two misses suck, but what sucks more is we made it to Georgia's 23, 22, 19, 27, 14 and 14 yard line, and we had to attempt the field goal every time, due to taking sacks, getting penalties or missing passes. Get a TD any of those six times and we win the game. Pressuring your kicker to hit 6 FGs, 4 of which were over 40 yards, because you can't accomplish jack shit in the red zone is the main issue.

Which is exactly why it was essential not to go backwards immediately before each of his kicks.    if his skill set is his skill set, then you game plan around his deficiencies.   Making each of the two kicks longer than they should’ve been is less on the kicker (who is not known as a good long distance kicker), than it is on the play calling and execution on the previous playsthat went backwards and reduced his chances of success.

Imo.

we constantly take/give up sacks that push him beyond or right on the edge of his range, which is 45 yards.

because Sark and Quinn and the O suck in the red zone Sark needs to make sure he has a nails kicker.  Or he can unfuck himself and have a real plan for the red zone and stick to it.

The problem there is that Sark really didn't have any good options other than to kick the FG because penalties or sacks put us way behind the chains. The yards to go on 4th down were: 12, 9, 10, 16, 15, 11. It would be a dumb decision to go for it on any of those.

Still, you have 1 fucking job and you were kicking off turf and in a fucking dome. Anything under 46-50 in those conditions that is snapped and set properly has to be automatic at this level. He's a major weakness in this team along with Ewers and Sark's stubborness

His play calling and Ewers lack of mobility got us into most of those 4th and longs.

He made a 55-yard field goal with the game, ACC Championship, and the playoff berth on the line. Would you want a faltering Auburn doing that? I think everybody knows the answer to that question.

He hit the first one, which he then had to redo because our dumb guys jumped. That's going to get into the head of most kickers, especially after he barely kept it in and had to go back another 5 yards. Also, he constantly had to kick it from the right or left hash, instead of being lined up right in the center.

Cool story, but Auburn hit 4 FGs. He missed his second FG when it was 10-6.  He hit the FG to tie it, and he hit his attempt in OT. You can scapegoat Auburn all you want, but if the offense did a single thing to help, Auburn's tying FG could've been the game winner or insurance points. In fact, if the offense just didn't hurt his chances by taking a 5 yard penalty or 6 yard sack right before his misses, he probably hits at least one of them. In fact, he did hit one of them, only for us to wipe it off with the penalty.

Would have been a cooler story if Auburn could make a very makable field goal in perfect conditions in a dome stadium, 41 yards with a good snap and hold.

i read half of page 1 last night  i have no idea if anyone has expressed this opinion

this is the first post i've read since then and in order to keep my sanity i'm just going to say this.....

this is my impression, maybe i'm seeing something that isn't there and will gladly demur if anyone has data to the contrary.....

bert has a right-to-left slice on half his kicks and we've known about it for 30+ games

banks had the same job for saban for 4 years - we may be limited by the number of coaches we can employ but it seems to me that the success of the tight ends room (no diss on burnt endz) has come at the expense of a laser focus on special teams

we need more than portal help - kirby pulled our pants down on the fake punt

we have improved the return game but all other phases of special teams suck

we should have had a kicker-whisperer in here 2 years ago - the coaching staff owns the misses too

Would have been an even cooler story if we could just punch it into the end zone once in 6 attempts near the red zone, like any other offense with a ton of weapons should be able to do. If we did that, this wouldn't even be a discussion.  And the 42-yarder was near the right hash, right after (again), he had to re-kick. That's not a gimme in college, even in a domed stadium. How do you expect to get through the CFP if you can't score one fucking TD in six attempts within the 27 yard line (seven attempts if you count OT)?

Yeah, its kind of is in perfect conditions with a good snap and hold in what is now professional football , no matter how you look at it, at a big-time program or should be.

Still missing kicks from right hash, come on Bert!!!  😬

ATLANTA -- Bert Auburn stands alone at the top in the history of Texas Longhorns kickers.

With a 41-yard field goal in the first quarter of Saturday's SEC Championship against the Georgia Bulldogs in Atlanta, Auburn became the program's all-time leader in field goals made with 61. This new record is certainly impressive when considering the talented kickers Texas has had over the years, highlighted by Justin Tucker, Cameron Dicker and Hunter Lawrence.

Auburn is now 61 of 77 on career field goals, which was highlighted by a career-long of 54 yards in the win over Texas Tech in 2023. He's also made all 168 extra points he's attempted. Additionally, he caught a one-yard pass in the win over Houston last season.

Auburn, who was originally a member of the 2021 recruiting class. Now in his fourth year at Texas, he's played in some big games and has been called upon in clutch moments. However, he's struggled a bit during the 2024 campaign.

Auburn was 10 of 15 on field goals entering the SEC Championship, which has been low-lighted by some poor misses that ended up way off the mark. Fortunately, with the way most of Texas' games have gone leading up into the postseason, Auburn hasn't been asked to make any clutch kicks. As a result, some of his struggles haven't taken center stage.

Fans on social media have brought up the idea that kickoff specialist Will Stone should be given a chance to attempt place kicking, but Auburn has remained the guy for head coach Steve Sarkisian.

This is an indictment of our offense. He’s not setting this record if we could score tds  from the red zone

The ball isn't in the center for FG attempts it is either on right or left hash.  he has a bigger problem from right hash than left hash because it exacerbates his hook.

I'm pissed he missed the 42 yarder but the 51 yarder is on the O.  we already know that is at the very edge of his range distance-wise anyway.  There is a reason he doesn't kick off.

Banks and Sark chose to ride or die with him even with mounting evidence that a) he didn't have the distance and b) even his makes are rarely down the middle.
