Except for the David Wright vote

Eh- I mostly meant the column. His point was Wright is a guy good enough to be on the ballot longer than 1 year and I agree with him there.

Wow.  Some surprises on there.  Wagner deserved better.  congrats to Mauer.  vizquel's omission continues to be bullshit.  But some of those guys that won't make another ballot, I'd have thought they'd last a few years or so.  But as Augie kept telling us, the game is a cruel, fucking bitch.

In the immortal words of Crash Davis.  Fuck this fucking game!

Absolute bullshit from BBWA.

Todd Helton’s case when you look at other 1B is pretty unassailable. Advanced stats love him, he played very good defense, and he’s never been connected to roids which means something to the voters.

Vizquel would be the worst SS in the Hall by JAWS. He doesn’t belong. He’s not even the most deserving SS on the current ballot-that’s Jimmy Rollins, and he’s probably not ever getting in.

What's the rationale for voting yes in 23 and no in 24? There was no BW news over the past year which makes his career look worse. Of course, he'd still be two short in that scenario.

You can only vote for 10 and there wre some good first timers on the ballot

If Billy Wagner was a Yankee, he would have entered the HoF in his first or second year of eligibility. Total BS.

None of the 5 BBWAA members from the NY Post had Wagner on their ballot.

Yeah- I'm in team Billy Wagner shouldn't be in the Hall because relief pitchers are still pitchers and it's a subset of guys not good enough to start games and thus 35% as valuable as a starter- but if you are going to have 8 closers in there then Billy Wagner damn sure should be the 9th.

That ballot was pretty stacked. I could see him being 11th on a couple guys ballots.  Or maybe they just fucked up checking the boxes.  They are humans and baseball writers so on some level they are morons, mostly.

Yea. 6th most saves all time and there are already 8 closers in the HoF - not to mention that he did it in 95 to 266 less appearances than the 5th guys with more saves.

All his rate stats are awesome too.

Not saying Santiago was a better overall player but people forget that Mayer gets a lot of “bonus points” for hitting so well as a Catcher.  When in fact he literally played half his career as a DH or 1B, where his type of production was actually sub-HOF.

Nobody forgets that. It’s why his WAR was so much higher before he transitioned to 1B. You can remove all his season from 2014 on and he still easily has more than Santiago.
