Completely lateral move... didn't even get a promotion and just a $300K-$500K salary bump which we could have matched.

That really stings. Especially right after we lose our two best DTs. More than that it shatters the idea that Texas is and should be a final destination-type job for all but a) the NFL or b) a significant promotion elsewhere.

I'll tell you what, a lot of 9.95 sites are thrilled that you just did all their work for them. I expect half these names to how up on a "Names I'm hearing" tweet or post in the next 24 hours.

That being said, I do legit appreciate the legwork. here.

Not unless we want to fire PK.

JabbaTheMailbox is currently using his dialing wand to tap out a tweet.  The ham juice makes the wand slippery though, so expect a half dozen typos.

Unfortunately, yes.

You see comments often like "we have signed a 5-star at every position under Sark except DL"

I don't think it's necessarily a terrible criticism. We could probably do a better job of landing upper-echelon talent on the defensive line.

Of course, this doesn't deny that Bo Davis is incredible at development and seems pretty damn good at talent evaluation too.

Can you put together another list and rank them in the order of how many guys they have put in the NFL in the last 5 years.

Bo is clearly one of the top 5-10 coaches at the position in the country. The situation around it being his alma mater and his kid apparently going there obviously weren't things we could contend with.

Given our season, our position room, and the money we'll be able to get someone at least close in caliber. The sky isn't going to fall. Our room isn't going to all follow him in the portal (nor are they able to until after Spring even if they wanted to).

Fuckity fuck fuck Bo!  Though I’d he has wanted to coach the entire DL, that’s a tough deal and seems like he was in a PK-or-me ultimatum.

Oddly enough, both PK and Nansen have experience as DL coaches - not to Bo’s level of reputation.  Joyner would be cool, and Orgeron would be blast.

would Sark look at anyone in the NFL, and possibly Tracy Rocker with the Eagles (as it seems Sirianni is on thin ice there). Rocker has long been considered an elite DL coach and was at Tenn under Pruitt - who coached at Bama with Sark - and So. Carolina with Coach Boom. So, maybe a link? Or just wishcasting since I’m moderately depressed about Coach Bo.

I meant it primarily due to all the scandals he has been attached to and my doubts an Orgeron hire would get through compliance. He also seems really comfortable in his semi-retirement though just doing coaching camps and advertisements.

Well that’s only 3. I’ll need 97 more reasons haha

Bo got through compliance, so I dont think that would be an issue. I dont think it is particularly likely anyway

Ketch, I am not going to call you a fat bitch this time, I promise.  Question for you... let's say you and Looch are hammering some Kentucky Deluxe one night and one thing leads to another and suddenly Looch is fisting you violently.  By accident, his Aggie ring catches on your prostate and rips it out but when it comes out, it is a fully formed, delicious ham.  My question is...do you eat that ham?

I'd prefer Joyner to Coach O mostly because he's younger and from Texas.

That said, I hope Sark kicks the tires on Okam and Wright.  Be nice to have a Longhorn Legend back in the fold...although as I type this I can't think of any former Horns who have worked out as coaches at Texas.

Edit: Forgot about Giles

I forgot that Tosh Lupoi was Sark's DL coach at Washington. I dont think it is going there, but I saw his name in the this chat

Don’t know much about him, but if Harbaugh bolts for the league I wonder if we’d kick the tires on Mike Elston. Michigan D-Line looked pretty salty in the playoffs.

You mean current DC of Oregon Tosh Lupoi? That one?

I said it isnt going there. Nansen was on the staff. Wilcox was his DC. He seems pretty solid at identifying coaching talent. I was just looking at his old coaching staffs.

I had the same thought but I don't think we have any connection on the current staff with him. Agree their D-Line looked fantastic.

Ed O seems to be the splashy choice. Apparently Bo was the ‘enforcer’ on the defensive staff as well with PK and the other coaches having a more laid back coaching style. So whoever we hire needs to have some hardaas in him

I expect we make a big run at Tray Scott. I do not think he is a realistic hire but he has been stuck in same role for five years at Georgia and is 'only' making ~900K. We could throw 1.2-1.3M at him and in the very least fuck over Georgia forcing them to match. He is probably the best combination of recruiter + developer on the DL that isn't an entrenched DC / Co-DC somewhere.
