Furiosa Anya Taylor-Joy Chris Hemsworth

It was a fun movie. I decided to watch it in a smaller AMC showing than their IMAX ones and it was still great. I enjoyed the lack of dialogue at times and the action scenes were well done. Hemsworth being the bad guy was different to see, but he played the character well. I would watch this again. Anya Taylor Joy was also really good and her reactions told more of her inner feelings on things than extended dialogue ever would have.

Caught today in a Dolby Cinema (best theater there is IMO) and I enjoyed. Doesn’t top Fury Road as has been said, but Hemsworth absolutely disappears into the role (it gave me faint Ledger Joker vibes in that regard) and ATJ is otherworldly as always. Interesting that they recast the actor who played Slit.

Spoiler

New war rig is bad ass. Nice Easter egg with Max on the mountain. I thought they would show Scrotus’ death since he wasn’t in FR.

Pretty good movie. They seemed to focus more on action than world building, which was a bummer. Seeing Immortan Joe was fucking awesome. Hemsworth as Dwmentus was kinda meh, but also fun. I still can't seperate him from Thor. He just looked like fat Thor in the film, but overall I'd give the movie 7/10 for fun.

Thought it was awesome. Damn close to Fury Road for me. ATJ is so badass in this. Perfect for the role.

As far as it dragging, I had the opposite reaction. Even though it is long af, some scenes felt rushed and it took away from the drama.

I never got a rushed feeling on it, but yes it’s a long movie. Totally worth it though. Those actions sequences throughout the film were great.

Fabulous. Saw in on IMAX.

Such an interesting world and I love the action. I also love that there are no superpowers.

Only Thunderdome was poor, the rest are very good. ATJ is a fast rising star.

Very good but never really rises to the level of Fury Road

Spoiler

if the max stand in had been a better actor and not such a nothing it probably would have been just as good as the first Anya Taylor-Joy brings just the right mix of crazy and bad ass to the role

How "R" is it?

Okay enough for a nine year old whose parents have semi-questionable judgment about this sort of thing, or probably not even then?

Mostly looking to avoid sexual violence, torture, gratuitous "gore porn," and other things of that nature.

The unnecessary cameo kills my theory that Jack represents the mythical Max figure in a story told years later by an unreliable narrator. He had the leather jacket missing one sleeve with a shoulder pad, the shotgun pistol, etc.

Bloody violence, a nipple fetish, cannibalism, and light pedophilia. It’s fine.

Loved it and I am normally someone who hates prequels. With the terrible box office receipts for this and Fall Guy, I think we better enjoy these types of movies at the theater while we still can.

Yeah it’s a bummer. I don’t care if they don’t make any more action rom coms, but please go see Furiosa in the theater. It would be a shame for these sorts of films to die.

Saw it in IMAX over the weekend. Have to go with the general concurrence that it's very good, but it doesn't live up to the impossible standard set by Fury Road. I got out of Fury Road feeling like I had been on speed for the previous two hours. I could hardly catch my breath. Still better than 90% of the crap out there, though, and I did like it.

One minor complaint -- and I can't tell if it's just because I'm getting old and there's something fucked with my hearing -- but I had some difficulty understanding what the characters were saying at times. It seemed like they were running SFX over the dialogue. Weird complaint for a movie that is so light in dialogue to begin with, I suppose. Did anybody else have that problem?

Theater experience is dying.

Maybe--Seth Rogen was on a podcast recently and rebutted that with "people still go to museums."  Maybe rather than dying it's just evolving (but certainly the market place for films is de-emphasizing theatrical).

Just left the theater.

It was awesome. Is it as good or groundbreaking like Fury Road? Absolutely not. Is it better than 99% of action films? Yep.

Miller wisely doesn’t try to remake Fury Road. This is its own thing and is paced more traditionally and is broken into chapters. It’s probably more violent and definitely more gruesome than Fury Road. How she loses her arm is pretty horrific.

Anya Taylor Joy doesn’t show up until an hour into the movie and doesn’t say a word for another 45 minutes. She has maybe 200 words of dialog and 150 of them are in the final scene. She’s great and so is the young Furiosa. This is Hemsworth’s best role so far.

Saw it yesterday afternoon and I agree on all points.  This was a very good movie.  Exactly what I hoped it would be.

People do need to get off their backside and go to the theater for a movie like this. When I hear complaints about a lack of these kinds of films being made I just nod my head and realize folks are skipping out on going out and waiting to watch it at home. You want to do that then do it, but don’t be disappointed when you no longer see a plethora of this kind of flick.

Might be time for an aid.

Nope. But that’s part of why I go to a Dolby Cinema over IMAX when I want the primo a/v experience. The other part is the picture quality.

Saw this before the Mavs game.

Really good, I kept feeling like Hot tub time machine waiting for Furiosa to lose her arm!

I guess my only “want” was hoping to see a little bit more of her place within Immortal Joe’s citadel but I get it.

Saw it yesterday. Liked it better than Fury Road. The characters in this had more depth. The world building was also better.

ATJ was fucking awesome. The 2.5hr run time flew by.

Este. ATJ just passed Florence Pugh as my favorite actress working.  I was captivated from start to finish. Loved the little Road Warrior callback/references.

Saw it yesterday.  Disappointed.  The closing credits, which had Fury Road scenes, reminded me of how I thought Fury Road was robbed of the Best Picture.

I thought the story line on this didn't add to the admittedly fine and exciting special effects.  But holy fuck, you realize how much star power Charlize (sp) and Tom have.  They added so much to every scene, and these stars did not.  Tom is just fucking cool as hell and Charlize is simply captivating in every scene she's ever been in.

Further, the effects on Fury Road felt pretty novel.  This one maintained the quality and had some very cool stuff but not as surprisingly fun as Fury Road.

ATJ was good.  The little kid who played the young F. was more interesting, and when she was grewed up, the flick lost some momentum as well.

Worth watching.  WAY too long.  Fury Road>Road Warrior>Mad Max>Furiosa>What's Love Got to Do With It Mate?

Loved it. Wondering why Furiosa grew up and got super hot and they didn’t try to make her a baby maker again though.

Theres some back story I saw that she proved to be infertile and was cast aside by IJ.

I agree with a lot of this, but I still thought it was a fun movie. I don't want to take away from it just because it wasn't as good as Fury Road

Yup.  It wasn't Fury Road and nothing else ever could be, but I still really enjoyed it.  ATJ is definitely one of my favorite current actors.

Just saw this. Resounding "meh." Wife fell asleep and I wished I was tired enough to fall asleep. Biggest complaint was how lazy the CGI was, it just felt mailed in compared to the first. Plot was a disjointed hot mess, felt like tourettes in movie form (no offense meant to actual tourettes). Anya was great.

I liked this very much. It was the most linear of George Miller's films, I thought ATJ was good,  and Chris Hemsworth was great, His goofiness could have sunk the movie, and instead really breathed life into what could have been a two-dimensional role. His monologue at the end was the closest Miller has ever gotten to spelling out the ethos of the Wasteland, and if anything the bleakly comic aspects of his character made it work.
I also liked the glimpse of Max, simply observing the suffering all around.

1 hr in and WTF?  Trash so far.

Opening bike scene had potential but fizzled.

Fat Thor is interesting. Joe looks awesome , Furiosa has been on screen five minutes and said five words. Nothing like the first one and down right boring so far.

1st was one of the best action/ chase/ intensity/ adrenaline rushes in years. This is nothing like that.

It gets better right?

This. Except i liked it more than fury road. Furiosa as a character was more interesting than Max in FR. Also, hemsworth was a deeper and more complex villain than Joe was.

Id bet any amount of money that if this came out before Fury Road, the reviews would flip for the two films

I wouldn't have bothered to watch this except for Fury Road.
