We agree on Checo and I'll bet 1 dollar buck  they announce it the week of the Mexican GP that he's out of the seat next year.

The source is Joe Saward so it's probably wrong.

As a reminder he qualified 5th in the Canadian GP and finished 8th, at the race before Spanish GP lol I'm sure they really wanted to give him the boot then.

Helmut lost his fastball long ago.

First of all please excuse my ignorance. Not sure if thus is the right form and I realize I am way late to the party but trying to find out how much were ground passes when they were first released for the up coming f1 race at cota? Trying it find 4 tickets to take my f1 obsessed daughter and family to the race. Don't want to pay an huge mark up and I know it is not cheap.  Wondering if it would be better to wait until next year? When do tickets usually go on sale?  Am I correct that with a grounds pass we would be sitting in the grassy areas around the track?  Any advice and help is appreciated.

Not sure how much they were when they were first released, but Costco had some not too long ago. Yes - general admission is the grass areas.

Advice: wear very comfortable shoes for walking. You will walk a lot. I’ll leave parking advice to others - just bring your patience. If you go all three days - watch the cars from different spots - especially Friday. Wear sunscreen.

Tickets go on sale in February and yes you are correct that you'd be sitting in grassy areas. The 3-day pass is sold through COTA and I don't think that is marked up.  There are some 1day GA passes on Ticketmaster that look like about $140 cheaper. Reserved seats look crazy right now. The cheapest ones in the $600 range (3day) are bad viewing angles.

If you decide to go, keep on mind that shade is almost non-existent, particularly in GA areas, so bring some portable shade.

Another idea that folks do is, instead of dropping a bunch of money at COTA, spend a little less on ticket prices and go to the race in Montreal.  That way for the money you also get a cool trip out of it.

If you're gonna go all 3 days, then yeah, prepare thy anus. If Friday only would do it for you, then you can do that pretty inexpensively.

Don;t mess with Ticketmaster/COTA purchasing. You'll pay about 20% more in fees on top of the listed ticket price. Tickpick has Friday tickets right now starting at $18 all in.

Going Friday only is a great way to get a feel for F1, the atmosphere, see/hear/smell the cars, etc, and then you can just kick back for the rest of the weekend & watch on TV. It's cheap and the crowd & lines are much more  palatable, and it's a million times easier to follow the race on TV. With their shitty TVs and sound system, it's near impossible to follow the race at COTA.

Yep. Actually a LOT less for Montreal ticket prices. Montreal is an extreme bargain compared to any of the US races. This year, Montreal had something like 6 different grandstands that were cheaper than a GA pass at COTA will be. And it's in Montreal, so it has that going for it. Which is nice.

This is by far the best way to do USGP, unless you're rich.

Also true. But you also get the old cars on Saturday. I don't know what they do on Friday. Never been.

You get Masters Historic, Masters Endurance, and Porsche Carrera Cup all three days this year. Both Masters categories have practices and qualifying sessions on Friday. The Porsches only have practice. Friday has the most hot track sessions of the three days (7).

Then, yeah, a Friday is the way if you can swing it.

OK I know some people here went in the last few years...anyone mind sharing ballpark what they spent on it?

Do I remember reading that ticket lines are such a shit show for race day that they eventually waive people in and ticket checkers don’t give a shit if you have a ticket or not? I haven’t been for a number a years and things have changed a lot.

Has anyone just shown up on Sunday and figured it out on the fly? Angling for a random scalper or group of people trying to get rid of GA last second in person etc.

Friday is my favorite day, but I love all of it and wouldn't miss any of them.  We're not going to have F1 in my backyard forever, it gets less likely to continue here with each passing year, so I'll go as much as I can, while I still can.

Weather in Montreal is often cold (50s-60s) and rainy.  It's far better than a hot sweaty mess, though.

It was cold and the rain hit one day and the day of the race was hot. Dress in layers and bring a good poncho.

Hot in Montreal is all relative.  It feels hot because you were cold when it was raining, but 70 degrees isn't hot.

Looks like pretty decent weather for the weekend.  We've had far worse.  I love going for my morning runs around the track when it's in the upper 50s early morning, it's a pretty amazing feeling.

I'm really glad for the fans that the weather is going to be moderate. But part of me was hoping for a record hot day because I'm tired of hearing F1 TV commenters describe the weather as "a blistering 29 degrees" [84 F] at other tracks, and I want them to feel some real heat.
