Max isn't paid enough and RBR isn't focusing enough on a quality second driver

Teams get to start using wind tunnel time on 2026 regs in 2025. RB doesn’t want a second driver that moves them up in the WCC standings this year or next.

It is crazy how the second driver has fared for that team. A ton of circumstances but, you’d have to figure that they’d get it right, eventually.

If the rumors of Checo coming back next year are true, I don't think they are even trying to get it right.  They're just prioritizing sponsor dollars above all else.

I'm guessing they like the smell of Slim's money. It would actually make sense, at least for next year, if Slim is paying them the same or more than the amount they're losing by not winning the WCC.

Does he pay them more than ~$20 million per year that they couldn't replace with a different driver?  Because that's the difference between first and third in WCC.

No idea what he pays, but he certainly could pay that and not sweat it at all.

Perhaps this is old news (I generally avoid this thread when I am behind in watching the races, which is almost all the time...) but I saw that Monaco will officially no longer be on the same day as the Indy 500 and the Coca-Cola 600.

That is (was) my favorite day of the year. Doomlet was almost born on that day, and if he was, we would have named him Miles (as in 1,261 miles of racing that day) and those fucking bastards currently in charge of modern F1 fucking ruined it.

Pieces of shit.

Yep. To LM/FOM, the bottom line isn't the most important thing. It's the only thing.

Huh, so there are rumors about an Andretti announcement in Vegas, for the 2026 season.

Supposedly the DOJ and Liberty have agreed to everything now and that Maffei is gone. Also EU is now pleased with Andretti entry and won't investigate them further. But who knows. Oh, and Eddie Jordan says Andretti will be on the grid in 2026 as well.

Interesting, so was that just a quick retirement by him? Or will he still be in the background. I guess we will see

Maffei? Who knows? I haven't been following this closely for a while, what with current events lately & all. No cr.  I asked a friend of mine & he says he'll know more about it next week. I assume that means he'll be around the Paddock in Vegas for business. He's usually good for some info. If I hear anything I'll pass it on ...

Also, I wonder if Michael stepping down from Andretti factors into this potential change of heart.

Maffei has been butthurt for years that Malone would not put a transition plan in place for him to take over Liberty when Malone dies.  I wouldn't be surprised that this is related to that.

I meant Michael’s retirement. It all seems coincidental but I haven’t been paying attention

Yeah I wondered about that as well. Was it voluntary, or forced? Was it just a typical retirement, or who knows what? I don't think many people, if any, saw it coming.
