Looked like the driver never even tried to counter-steer.  Just rode that shit all the way into the barrier...

Reportedly Newey to Ferrari isn’t going to happen. If the bolded part of the story is accurate… I mean, it seems to me that Ferrari NEED someone to override the system in the company. Especially someone who has designed cars that have won [checks notes] 12 Constructors and 12 Drivers Championships. Likely 13 after this year.

“Sources close to Ferrari have told BBC Sport that chief executive officer Benedetto Vigna has baulked at the level of salary Newey commands and that there is a concern he would have too much power and could override the system inside the company.

“Senior sources in the sport say that Newey is actively engaged with Aston Martin at the moment, and that this is looking his most likely destination. McLaren remain another possibility.

“Newey, meanwhile, is said not to have made up his mind where to go.”

Wouldn't want the guy who has designed 2 different cars that blew away the rest of the grid having too much power in a racing team.  He might do something crazy and build a really fucking fast car.

But this is precisely why Ferrari is what it is.  That completely incestuous internalized culture.

Look back to times when an outsider came in and shook it up--  Michael Schumacher or Nikki Lauda-- and good things happen.

But no, can't have that.  Too much winning is bad for the kids.  Or something.

That is the most Ferrari thing I've ever read.  Oh, noes!  Our system!

I hope it’s Sainz they pick up.

would love to see a real driver to compare Checos performances of the last few years in the second seat

Q1, Perez into the wall. Hard smack on the car.

Stick a fork in him.

Tired Over It GIF by Jonas Mosesson

Yeah he just needs to walk at this point. They pay him out and he flips to like the fucking Williams for the rest of this year.

He can't recover. If he drives well in the RB then they will blame it on the car and him being ok but if he goes and drives the doors off the Williams he shows he can actually do it and maybe gets a seat next year?

Russell out after Q1. So is Perez, who didn’t have a time to go through, and the two Alpine cars.

At least he has the "they didn't fuel it enough" excuse

The only guy left was Lando. It was over if Yuki didn’t crash.

Alonso was on his hot lap as well, but he wasn't threatening for pole. Might have improved though.

ETA: And Fernando was pissed. They red-flagged a T8 incident instantly, when he was in the final turn on a quicker lap. Then they directed him into Parc Ferme prematurely.

It's gonna be boring most likely.  It's hard to pass here.  Lando is real bad on starts.  It's even money that he's gonna get passed on the first lap when he's on poll.
