Our viewing in the early 90s was not edited....it was a very special day for all of us dudes in that class.  Margie Kleinheur didn't give a FUCK and for that I salute her.
RIP

My classroom viewing in 1991 was also not edited. Her tits are literally the only thing I remember from the movie.

The man walked the talk and served his fellow humans better out of office than in office. Props to him for following his convictions the rest of his life.

Gov. Abbott's full statement:

"Cecilia and I mourn the loss of former President Jimmy Carter alongside millions of Americans across the country. Our nation remains the greatest beacon of freedom and opportunity in the world because of our fearless chief executives who are our guiding force through the best and worst of times. For that, we owe President Carter our enduring gratitude for his service as the 39th President of the United States. Having led a life marked by selfless service to the American people, President Carter leaves behind a great legacy as a husband, father, naval officer, governor, and Nobel prize winner, and he will be greatly missed by many. Cecilia and I send our prayers and deepest condolences to First Lady Rosalynn Carter and the entire Carter family."

Believe that was Flo’s line.

Flo who also played Mrs. Deagle in Gremlins. Something I discovered on a rewatch last week.

I know it was Flo's.  But Flo and Mel's (who was more often than not the intended grit kisser) interactions were about the only thing that ever came of that sitcom.

This was my house’s tv schedule for Sunday night in the late 70s.

  • 6:00 PM: 60 Minutes

  • 7:00 PM: All in the Family/Archie Bunker's Place

  • 7:30 PM: One Day at a Time

  • 8:00 PM: Alice

  • 8:30 PM: The Jeffersons

  • 9:00 PM: Trapper John, M.D

Given this was 45-50 years ago, I can’t imagine many main actors are still with us. Flo, Gregory Harrison, rob reiner and Sally Struthers must the older casts that haven’t made these threads. And many of the then <21 cast. Tommy from Alice being an exception.  And I’m only counting cast that were there for the majority of the early seasons. Not the ones who pop in for seasons 9-10.

This post unpacks a lot of memories.

For people who actually got in by 1/1/24 i think AUS-97HORN beat Harrison by 3 pts with the Navalny/Doherty over Irwin/Doherty

I stopped there so I am guessing poster a few above was top overall counting all entries.

I realize a few of my picks last year were retalitory. gonna have to take a few off.  Pretty sure Putin isnt going to die this year.  but that means Navalny more than likely will so I will replace him in Putin's place.  Taking off Ruggs, Rivera and Saban as well,
This years list:
Shannen Doherty
Greta Thunberg (shes my young ringer. lots of private jet flying and she pisses off enough people to cause someone to go after her)
Dan Rather
Alexei Navalny
Jerry Jones
Bruce Willis
Mick Jagger
Julie Andrews
Robert Duvall
Jane Fonda
Liza Minnelli   77
Linda Nolan  64
Bruce Willis  68
Jonnie Irwin  50
Shannon Doherty  52
Steve McMichael  66
Christopher Lloyd  85
Julie Andrews  88
Ric Flair  74
Pete Davidson  30

Not the two I was hoping for, but I guess I got 53 points.  Oddly enough, they both passed away 5 days apart.

From a few days ago

John Friel my father, internet pioneer and creator of QModem, has died John Friel, remembered fondly as a pioneer of the internet through his creation of QModem, has passed away. Many reminisced about the profound impact QModem had on their lives, describing it as a gateway to the digital world, especially during the era of Bulletin Board Systems (BBS). Users shared heartfelt stories of how QModem transformed their childhoods, fostering a passion for technology and opening doors to future careers. John was also appreciated for his kindness and willingness to help others in their tech journeys. His legacy lives on through the countless lives he touched.

——-

I worked with John for a few years in the 1990s. This was during the heyday of BBSes, when he joined our small team at Mustang Software after Mustang bought Qmodem. John moved to Bakersfield California (with his family, including OP!) to be with us. John left a few years later due to I think business differences with management.

John was personable and full of joy. He always loved a good joke. I remember the parties (not wild, we were pretty tame back then) we would have around the pool at his place. He was generous with his time.

The story of Qmodem itself was a bit different. Qmodem for DOS was a one-man shareware business and was John's pride and joy. It was clear that he poured everything into that program. It was finely tuned and just worked. Times were changing though, and people were calling for a Windows version. Unfortunately, John was not interested in learning Windows programming, so Scott Hunter (now at Microsoft), Dan Horn, and I built Qmodem for Windows. It was good, but it really never had the same level of polish that John's work did. It was "Qmodem" in name only.

After John left Mustang he also left Bakersfield and I lost touch with him. I'm sure he continued to make the people around him smile. Thank you for your time and contributions, John.

Uggh, when the BBS folks are dying of old age…., and there was another earlier last year.
