The greatest rivalry game in all of football is not a "really minor thing." Playing the game in the Cotton Bowl at the Fair is what sets it apart. Aggy is so jealous that they moved their series with Arkansas to Jerryworld to copy us and failed spectacularly.

Fuck anyone who wants to just play another game.

Not sure why, but to treat the idiotic hot take fairly-- it's obvious that the vast majority of Longhorn fans actually like having this game at the Cotton Bowl during the State Fair.  That's not the same as desperately clinging to goofy, antiquated activities for the sake of tradition.  It's that we genuinely like and prefer the game there.

Believe me there are numerous forces acting against the preservation of this neutral site classic, every single year.  The ONLY thing keeping it there, is the fact that the fan bases genuinely, sincerely like it.  That has been the common sentiment expressed on this thread, and every other Cotton Bowl/TX-OU thread in the long history of surly/shaggy/hornfans/austin360/etc. It stays there, because the vast majority of fans want it there.

Otherwise, it'd be super easy and convenient to change it to a home and home.

Move it away from the Cotton Bowl/fair and it's simply another conference game in a shitty NFL environment, and home and home would be even less special. I don't get why some people can't understand this.

Unless you are a member of Jerry Jones' family or a rival to Texas or OU and would benefit for devaluing the game, I do not understand wanting the game played in an NFL stadium in the suburbs

That's the liquid smoke asshole?

Signing a 12 year contract in a time of such disruption in football is dumb. Who knows what the landscape will be in 2030? Who knows what Dallas might look like in 2034?

As for liquid smoke, it has zero place in properly smoked barbecue. It is the truffle oil of barbecue. The high fructose corn syrup of sweeteners. Basically it is nothing but a fucking ashtray of Marlboro butts mixed with water from the Trinity and some kind of Aggie tears. A putrid substance used by Yankees to spritz on their boiled ribs and brisket.

Is Dallas going somewhere?   Are we expecting the Trinity River Fault Line to gobble it up in an earthquake?  Will Tornado Alley wipe it clean from earth?

May be just me, but the Cotton Bowl being old and by far the shabbiest stadium either team will play in kinda adds to the charm. Don't get me wrong, some work needs to be done..but idc if the stands are held in place with glued together Fletchers sticks as long as the game remains there and the state Fair is open for business at the time the game is played.

There is literally no better stadium for actually watching football than the Cotton Bowl, at least not in the dozens I gave been to across the country. The sight lines are amazing anywhere except under the overhang or row 1 dead back of end zone. I don’t give a shit about anything else.

Row 2 is worse. I had those seats once back in college. The people in Row 1 had a safe place to set their drinks or kick their feet up during breaks.  Not to mention the cross bar on the goal post blocked my view of the scoreboard line that showed down and distance, yard line, etc.

If they moved it to Jerha World, I'm pretty confident I'd just stop going. Not sure I'd even go to Dallas as.. if I'm not going to the game no reason to be in Dallas.

Pretty sure I'm not alone.

You aren't alone in that. I live roughly 30 miles from Dallas and only go there when I have good reason. Jerry World is in Arlington though, not even really bordering Dallas since you still have Grand Prairie (or Irving depending on which way you go) as a buffer.

We got row 1 behind the post in the LHF draw one year. Sent them back with a nasty letter and never got them in the draw again.  When we got to the stadium they were empty.

Saw this blurb that renovations are about to begin. Groundbreaking ceremony is Thursday.

Renovations Are Set to Begin at the Cotton Bowl

Posted on March 23, 2024

Courtesy WFAA

(WBAP/KLIF) – The project costs $140 million dollars and aims to both enhance the visitor experience and modernize some aspects of the stadium.

The renovation includes expanding the upper concourse, adding escalators increasing the number of restrooms and concession stands, installing new premium seating, and improving the stadium’s wi-fi signal. The Cotton Bowl renovations will be conducted in two phases.

The first phase should be completed in time for the State Fair of Texas and the Red River Rivalry.

Booooooo

The stadium already has all the premium seating you’d need. Lower level, west side north of the 50 which just became all that more valuable if this thing really moves to 2:30.

Just here to say fuck Jerry and Jerryworld. If it ever goes over there I'll never buy a ticket to another game. Jerruh will charge out the ass for tickets and $75 minimum for parking, which is complete horseshit. Also, fuck the suburbs and Arlington(no offense to any of y'all that live there). Most people love having it at the Cotton Bowl because

1. It's during the state fair. Win or lose it's always a good time after the game because we have the car show, world of beer tent to get drunk in, pig races, the rigged games on the midway and all the weird fried foods to look forward to

2. It's in Dallas and easy to access and parking is cheap compared to Jerruhworld

3. PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION! You don't have to pay for parking if you choose not to because you have the option of taking the train the game and it drops off right in front of the fair grounds. Plus, a Dart rail pass is like 2 bucks for the day.

4. ARLINGTON HAS NO PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION AND TRAFFIC IS ABSOLUTLEY RIDICULOUS OUT THERE. NOT TO MENTION ALL THE GOD DAMN HIGHWAY CONSTRUCTION.

Curious about what they're going to consider "premium seating", but more pissers will be welcome for sure.

Definitely this. More bathrooms are needed especially for the women. Every woman I've ever asked about the restroom situation that has attended that game has said the lines are way too long. My then girlfriend one year waited almost 30 minutes in line to use the bathroom.

If I had to guess, I bet that is seating that goes under the lip of the 2nd level by the tunnel on the OU end. When I did the stadium tour way back in 2008, they take you up to that area because it connects to other parts of the stadium. They said it had room for some box seats to go in. I'll see if I can dig up a photo from back then. They might have room under the lip of the 2nd level on the Texas side endzone as well. They are premium seats because you're not in the elements.

Jerryworld is nice but I absolutely hate getting in and out of there and Arlington sucks shit. I have no interest in their fake Live whatever chain restaurant gimmick. What pisses me off is all the money they keep pumping into the Cotton Bowl for one fucking game. They should have just passed the tax and built Jerryworld there. Not only OU-Texas but Dallas Cowboys at the state fair. I lived in Dallas at the time and voted for it, when it failed the city started to lose its luster for me when deciding whether to stay there for work or move to a smaller market. Fuck Jerry Jones either way.

Jerryworld is a terrible venue for a college football game.  It's fine for NFL but it sucks the life out of college games.

City of Dallas estimates the financial impact of TX-OU weekend as around $50M each year.  It makes up the cost of renovations within a few years.  And the State Fair gets a massive amount of its revenue on that weekend, the vendors would mostly fold without that one weekend, which means the fair itself would wither away and die.
