Spoiler

technically i thought the movie was amazing.  the acting and directing were top notch.  overall, i would say it's very good.  it's not a traditional straightforward biopic and i appreciated that.  cooper will be up for several oscars.

But are there even 5 posters here who know who Leonard Bernstein was or why he was important?

Seriously? This isn’t Texags. We have a robust music forum with many professional, amateur, and hobbyist players, composers, producers, and just all around legit music fanatics. I’m sure we will get internet from more than 5 Surly posters. Hell, I watch music documentaries and biopics for artists I’m not even into just because I’m fascinated by the process and what make them tick as artists. I’m in.

Holy shit dude, have you never checked the Surly Dad thread?

There's a shitload of us who have spent countless hours reading the Bernstein Bears books to our kids when they were young.

I know we'll eventually get to talking about the movie, but this has reminded me of one of my favorite clips.  This is from the documentary about the making of the West Side Story soundtrack.

The tenor here is not just some guy who fought through the audition process, it is Jose fucking Carreras here, just getting humbled.

I happen to know for a fact, that he was called Maestro in social situations. I once saw him at a bar and someone came up to him and said

"Hello Maestro, how about a beer". O.K. So that's a fact.

Beat me to it. If a friend calls him Leonard during the course of the movie, I will lose my shit.

Thought this one was okay. Cooper clearly wanted to outdo Blanchett in Tar, but fell well short of accomplishing that. Placing his wife, Felicia, at the center of this was a huge mistake; she really was supposedly pretty dull irl, but I'm sure nice/lovely, so whatever. Feels like Netflix is good for one or two good movies a year; this year (thus far) being The Killer, and last year being Blonde and Apollo 10 1/2.

Watched it last night.  Bradley Cooper was great.  I just didn't really like the movie.  Can't explain why.  Just didn't get into it.  And I'm a theatre/musical theatre/big band kinda nerd.  Don't judge me.
