I think I’m going to try and watch Desoto vs Corpus Christi Miller at the Alamodome in a couple weeks. Should be a good game. Miller actually has the athletes to match up well with Desoto (if you just looked at their roster you’d never guess they were from Corpus) but I think Desoto’s depth will make the difference. Probably a 49-28 type of game.

Why is miller playing this game?!

2-0 for first time in god knows how lomg

2009 maybe? Think that was the last salty team y’all had. Caleb Jones went ape shit against us. Like 9 receptions for 200 some odd yards and like 3 touchdowns. I thought he was gonna be a legend here. Oops.

I think Desoto needed a last minute game and Miller said yes.

Also LOL at Helobious thinking this game will be a 21 point game.

Maybe after 1st quarter

Miller has I at least 3 players with FCS or above offers. Broderick Taylor and Corey Holmes are going to give the Eagle defense fits. I’m not saying the outcome will ever be in doubt, but it’ll be way closer than most anyone thinks.

I think it’s by 60 so that’s not a stretch

Helobious, I'll be at the San Benito game tonight. Should be fun.

Who would win, Desoto or UTRGV?

The team from Georgia that DeSoto just beat 70-0 has more guys with FBS offers than that.

Miller team that can score points on anyone + Desoto team that probably won’t take the game serious and will let their foot of the gas = 49-28 type of score. There’s no doubt desoto is the superior team, I just don’t see a blowout.

Westlake will boat race San Benito and I actually kind of feel bad for them that realignment put them in a tiny district and they needed these tough non-district games. Not so bad that I won’t LOL.

Miller will play DeSoto closer than that Georgia team.  Not that doing so is particularly hard. Coaching at the HS level makes an amazing difference and it is pretty Mickey Mouse in a lot of the southeast and east coast.  There’s a lot to the observations of many college scouts that Texas talent looks so much better because of the coaching.  Aside from a few isolated pockets, the East coast teams just count on talent alone to win it.

Desoto & North Crowley tied at 21 in the 2nd

These teams look like mirror images of each other.

So Desoto is playing North Crowley AND Corpus Christi Miller tonight? Now that is tough schedule!

Rules question for @msucolt45 or any other.  Watching the Bird Bowl (Harlingen-Harlingen South) and the refs called an ineligible man downfield on the offense and then pass interference on the defense and said they were offsetting penalties.

That seems like it has to be a mistake by the refs? If you have an ineligible man downfield, you can’t complete a forward pass, so shouldn’t the call just be on the offense?

North Shore struggled with Crowley. QB threw 5 picks. Either North Shore isn't the same caliber anymore or Crowley has taken a massive leap.

And North Crowley is giving DeSoto all it can handle. Shout out to Crowley.

They had it correct. Two separate fouls by each team during the course of play equates the “off-setting” of each violation = therefore by negating each violation in yards marked against, even though the foul occurred, and replay the down.

If one foul occurred “post play” or dead ball, then each infraction would hold and the greater of the two would be enforced, after “walking off” each violation.

Hear me out here. Instead of offsetting they should walk off each foul. Say there’s hold on offense and PI on defense should net 5 to the offense. Quit bailing out with offsetting.

Got it, completely on board that it’s the right call.

But it does seem to me that it’s a bit of illogic in the rules.  If an ineligible receiver is downfield then isn’t any completion by definition impossible? Seems like PI should be treated as an uncatchable ball and waved off in that scenario.

The same rule would’ve applied whether the receiver caught the ball or not. Most times “lineman 3+ yards downfield” will occur while the ball is still in the air, with the ending result unknown or prior to a DPI.

If the Side Judges or Umpire are on their games and see it.

It’s not a “+ vs a -“ on fouls occurring during the live play. An offensive penalty, at or prior to the snap, blows the play dead and the infraction is enforced prior to anything else occurring, as in a false start. This is why when the defense is “offsides” and not encroaching a defenseless QB, the play is live and not blown dead, as like an offensive off sides.

Once the snap occurs the play is live, then you have an opportunity for “off-setting” fouls for both teams.

@TreatyOak , @blacklabor others at the Westlake game, is it true that San Benito had a bad game with injuries?

That really would suck for them to get smashed and lose key personnel in a non-district game against a state superpower.  They should be very competitive in 32-6A if healthy as Los Fresnos and Harlingen are good but incomplete teams.

I only saw one injury to one linemen in first half (Had to leave at halftime). I was impressed with their lineman size overall. They also have a nice-sized WR whose nice block sprung their long gainer. QB is small and honestly, pretty limited. As stated earlier, they have a terrific back who broke for a 75-yard TD. Dude is big and fast. However, they lacked size and speed on defense which will be a challenge for them against the best South Texas teams this coming season.

RGVsports.com had them ranked #9 in the valley in their preseason rankings, which I thought was harsh. Might’ve been accurate after all, but there’s still a lot of season left.

RIP to Bush HS HC Allen Aldridge, great guy. Three kids i believe, very sad. Can't imagine his family's pain today.

The Willowridge team he was on was so loaded that he played offensive guard and went on to be a starting LB on a super bowl champion.

Anybody on South Oak Cliff we’re looking at? They’re playing at Longview and I have to go.

side note, went to the Longview @ Lufkin game and Japorky Lane is still faaaaaaaaaaat

Not really. We poked around Kamauryn Morgan but then got Jackson and Sharma so that's not going to happen for him.

They have a 2027 OT who has a lot of big interest.
