Just got to walk my senior son off the field for senior night. Got a little dusty. Best part of playing at House Park is now I can walk to Tavern for a pregame “Thirsty Goat”.

Let’s go AHS. Beat Bowie.

A final from House Park:  Austin High 35, Bowie 32

When was the last time Brock got beat like that? Are the kids who couldn’t play at Aledo going somewhere else now?

Springtown.

Speaking of, next time someone besmirches the great name of POJO they get a porcupine quill in the ass.

Glen Rose handled Benbrook for its 9th consecutive district title.

Springtown beat Decatur in double OT for its district title.

Aledo 6th Grade Jones saw some varsity action tonight as they beat Azle 77-14.

Yessir! Great win. Boys got an early held and held on. Really happy for them. Now on to be killed by LT next week in final district game.

Who will AHS get in playoffs? what are the small school possibilities in 25 6a?

I would say Vandegrift.  Looks like they are at the top of their district despite having the lowest enrollment:

District 25 6a standings with UIL enrollment numbers:

  Vandegrift (2533.5) 7-0
  Round Rock (3882) 6-1
  Vista Ridge (2668.5) 5-2
  McNeil (2631) 4-3
  Hutto (2929.5) 3-4
  Cedar Ridge (2898) 3-4
  Stony Point (2769) 2-6
  RR Westwood (2834) 1-6
  Manor (2570) 1-6

Games left:

  RR Westwood vs Vista Ridge
  Round Rock vs Vandergrift
  Hutto vs McNeil
  Manor vs Cedar Ridge

Austin High's enrollment is 2296.5, by comparison.  One of the smallest schools in 6A.

My kid plays for McNeil. We’re playing Hutto next week for the 4th playoff spot. Austin High’s win ensured we would play Dripping in the 1st round (if we win) instead of getting our teeth kicked in by Westlake. So thank you, Maroons.

Oh, and thanks, Bowie for losing to  a terrible Austin High team and forcing my Chaps to go D1. We at least had a shot to get to the semifinals if we were D2.  Now, we are cooked.

Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor!?!?

I agree through. We’re good but not the elite teams we’ve grown accustomed to

Bud Kilmer was a better guy.

Fuck Bud Kilmer.

“Before this game started Kilmer said 48 minutes for the next 48 years of our lives. I say fuck that. I say fuck that. Let's go out there and play the next 24 minutes for the next 24 minutes and leave it all on the field. We have our whole lives to be mediocre but we have the chance to play like gods for the next half of football. But we cant be afraid to lose. There's no room for fear in this game. If we go out there and we half-ass it because we're scared then all we're left with is an excuse. We're always gonna wonder. But if we go out there and give it absolutely everything, I say we're gonna win. Let's be heroes! Come on! Come on...!”

Best speech ever.

Kilmer had a solid gameplan against Gilroy. Dawson can fuck off with his "keeping the game pure" trick play bs.

Gilroy was faster and deeper having dropped down from 4A. Canaan had a smart mouthed backup QB and an Oline that couldn't pass protect. Ball control and shortening the game is the correct gameplan. There's a reason the man won 19 district titles before crashing out at the terribly accented back talk

So the bio in the article leaves off with being named Baylor head coach in 2008. Anything worth mentioning thereafter???

Your fate was sealed back in September, you just didn't know it.

Austin LBJ has a couple of seriously impressive wins over Wimberley and FW Parish Episcopal already. Austin Bowie looks really good and Westlake is a guarantee for the state title game at worst. So no.

Crazy thing is this could easily be Aledo and Tim Buchanan. Except when the movie was released Aledo had only 1 State Championship.

Aledo was a great program when Steve Wood got there in 2002, but I believe he deserves a lot of credit for turning them into the monster they are today. Absolute football genius who could run an offseason program like Herbert Sobel

The first "program" type thing I can recall was Celina when they had every level of football in the town down to peewee running their schemes and playbook.

Didn’t Permian have the same thing going on their side of Odessa back in the day?

Not sure because that was before my time. I think Permian benefited from O&G moving heavily out there.

The first 5a(now 6a) that I recall doing this was Southlake.

Everyone was doing it because back then you could drive across the border straight to a pharmacy, load up and be back on American soil in less than an hour. Hell I know a guy that was doing it in the early 00’s. He had half his teammates on the sauce, and I think they won two games in three years.

100%.  Crockett and Hood jr highs were running the same shit as were their pop warner teams.  Fucking veer and counters.  They had those plays down pat by high school.  Very precise offense.

Jimmie and Joes >>> Xs and Os. Sure it takes both but truly dominant programs at the high school level are basically scaled down college programs. Recruit talent and/or have open enrollment. At the high school level it can also involve jobs and housing available for their families. Athletic periods with all coaches available, don't let those pesky classes get in the way. That applies to both semesters so it covers practice/ weights in season and off season S&C and spring football (5 and 6a). All this requires buy-in from everyone- coaches, admin, booster clubs, community businesses etc etc. The examples on FNL both movie and series and other examples may be a bit overblown but there's a big element of truth. When one factor is missing the dominance goes away.

Time for some nut cuttin' tonight.  All the marbles are on the table and there for the taking.  Gonna be a lot of nervous players, coaches, parents, and alumni tonight.

Bay City and El Campo both already in a 7 point hole.  Add Tidehaven to that list.

Ricebirds are down by TD. La Vernia 14  EC 7.

East Barnyard leads Tidehaven 14-7 in a dog fight.

Silsbee has separation over Shepherd 28-6.
