Bad teams have always made the playoffs. Every year when I played and then my brother after me we always had to hear about the 10-0 district champion El Paso team (Montwood or Del Valle) that this was their year! And every time we had our starters out before halftime and JV kids starting by the end of 3Q. Rinse and repeat with most panhandle and Valley schools, with the exception for those areas being the smaller classifications.

Lampasas should get the district champion from District 1 in the 2nd round. That’s a majority El Paso schools district. That would mean EP Austin in the 2nd round. That game I am guessing takes place in Midland/Odessa. 550 or so miles separate the two high schools. The travel logistics in the first two rounds can come across as nuts to me when I think that I can drive from NYC to the northern tip of Maine faster than driving entirely within the same state. At least this week Lampasas just has to go to Wall to play Pecos.

Back in the 80, the trips were to the Abilene area but never against El Paso schools from what recall.  That’s a tough haul and seems odd they play at a lower classification school this week.  Kinda crazy.

2003 North Crowley was 4-6 and won state. Back then only 3 teams made it to the playoffs and the biggest school out of 3 went Division 1, which was 1 less round.

They beat Arlington Heights, WF Rider, EP Riverside, Texas High and Bay City to win

I think that team was 6-4, not 4-6.

Texline to Port Isabel is 903 miles...

Anthony to Orange is 878 miles... just for fun.

I tell people that I made a few drives from Dallas to Los Angeles and that half of the drive was just getting out of Texas. I always felt bad for the small Class A far northern panhandle schools who would make it to the state basketball tournament when I used to go to it years ago in Austin. They would put the distance to Austin next to it in the program and one school had to drive 619 miles to lose an 8:30 in the morning game on Thursday. Now the trip would be even further for them having to go to San Antone.

Judson is losing to Steele 49-3 and will fall to 1-5 tonight. They seriously might never be good again. The football team and school are just dying, same for Madison & Roosevelt. Northeast SA just isn’t what it used to be.

Roosevelt freshman team finished undefeated this year and won the district. That hadn’t happened in well over a decade probably. There may be hope for northeast side football yet.

While Texas is large, I'd rather drive from New York to Maine, or New Mexico to California any day. Much of Texas is well, not much to look at.

Canyon West Plains and Clint are playing Thursday night in Artesia, NM.

Canyon Randall and El Paso Ysleta are playing Thursday in Hobbs, NM.

I always enjoy the out of state playoff games

wellington and Petrolia are playing in Lawton, OK.

Not sure why it matters if it's logistically logical.  Why Canyon WP and Clint gotta play in Andrews?

TXK Pleasant grove is playing a 2-8 team. This is so dumb. Up by 35 at half. This is how you get kids hurt.

Yep, Bullard.  Where my two girls go to school.  Pretty solid overall girls athletic program.  Boys baseball and basketball usually competitive.  Football is a joke.

The loss was the following week, after their great RB got his leg broke, in a late tackle/hit out of bounds (1st Qtr). A 15 yard personal foul doesn’t make up for the rest of the season. They lost the last game to a decent Waxahatchie team, but I digress.

The eventual State Champion, Rockwall, they beat 28-0 in a pre-season scrimmage.

Hook’em!!!

Another fun one looking over the matchups:
10-0 Sinton vs 0-9 Rio Grande City Grulla Thursday in Falfurrias

Will good ol Bill In Sinton be in attendance with his focusness?

Sinton could have played with blindfolds and walked backwards tonight and still won

Sinton 84  Rio Grande City Grulla 0

also

Bay City 86. Hidalgo 0

I've got YouTube TV and an OTA antenna here in Round Rock.

Anyone know what channels I can find HS football playoff games on?
Nothing is coming up in the guide.

I don't really know who to root for either.

Any Round Rock or North Austin schools still playing?

In 6A:

Lake Travis is visiting Round Rock

McNeil is at Dripping Springs

Vista Ridge at Westlake

You should pull for McNeil

PSJA beats Harlingen 55-28. We were down 35-14 at halftime. Our senior QB, who is easily one of the worst QBs I’ve ever seen get extended play for us, came out in the 2nd half and just said fuck it. Every other pass was either a 70 yard touchdown or an interception. He brought it back to a 35-28 game before it got away. I actually gained respect for him tonight.

PSJA has two really good receivers and a great QB in Myles Lopez. I think he threw for 450 yards tonight. And he’s not just valley good, he’s 6’3 and holds an FBS offer from Central Michigan. Wil be interested to see what they can do against Steele next week.

Amarillo River Road(4) took down Lamesa(1) with a FG in last :40.  Final score 23-21.

As others have said, multiple nasty blowouts as well.  80 point margins in the POs is dumb.
DeSoto could have won their state championship last year by 100 if they wanted. These happen every round. Not sure if anything can be done about it

Tonight Dickinson sends blaylock and Atascocita packing

Atascocita is good. I'm picking them to upset Northshore in the quarterfinals. At least I sure hope so. Rather our Chaps face them than Northshore. (If we can get past Lake Travis again which won't be easy)

I always get a month subscription to NFHS network for 15 bucks.
Looks like FanDuel( formerly Bally) tv is showing some games. Prosper/Coppell tonight.
