Everything is Shit: Tracking the Great Enshittening

Maybe we can put all the AI nerds and Crypto losers into one big moon colony and have them beam their shit back to Earth using Elmo's satellites.

Or ship back the 1s and 0s using that Roadster floating around up there.

Plus, it's a lot cooler up there.

We need solutions. I think this could work.

  • 2 weeks later...

Parking at hotels.
Last week in Mankato, Mn; outdoor regular self parking at a Fairfield/ HIExpress/ Hampton type property- $3

This week in LA at similar property, outdoor, self park, no extra security- $ 25

there is literally no extra service being provided. It is 100% margin enhancement. Just put it in the price of the fucking room.

So WTF has broken down in harvesting/processing/cleaning of vegetables?

The incoming person who will be over the FDA doesn't believe in pasteurization or other food safety standards. So, uh, prepare your anus.

When you say 'LA' do you mean Louisiana or Los Angeles.  If it's Los Angeles then the difference in land costs probably have a little bit to do with it on top of simple price gouging.

If you are buying organic vegetable they basically have to have to rely more on manure as fertilizer, so you'll get higher e coli potential.

Makes sense.

So I assume the McDonalds onion situation was then probably an equipment sanitation issue, or some "organic" onions were used when that isn't the specification/marketing of a Quarter Pounder.

Well that and also for certain corporate/government customers who have to deal with lodging limits, it's an easy way to increase your price and still be within the top allowable limit, since parking is separate from hotel on your expense reports.

The onions were from a front range company which would likely have access to manure that needed placed from the big dairies or feedlots out that way. While organic has to use manure, regular will use it too because it's good fertilizer. Generally there is a window you are supposed to abide by. (I think it's 75 days, but I'm not 100% sure off the top of my head)

Los Angeles. The parking lot existed when they built the property. There is no covered parking. No security. No valet( another ruse.) No nothing. Just a big fee for…well..nothing.

I remember an e. coli outbreak a few years ago was from some farms in California that had a problem with feral hogs going through the fields and shitting everywhere.  So, it wasn't something the farm added, it's just that the sanitation measures weren't adequate for the added shit that they didn't anticipate/realize was on the product.

The organic vegetables should be cheaper since the migrant workers are providing the fertilizer.

for @Royalfan5

I believe some vegetables are rinsed or sprayed with sanitizers(diluted chlorines solutions?) when processed/packaged.  Is that allowed with organic?

**edit

Google is my friend.  Obviously a huge rabbit hole here.

But here’s the thing, there are better, safer organic options than manure. They use it because it’s dirt cheap.

That’s fine, but before you go slinging shit all over, you really, really need to compost it first.

However, as said, there are better alternatives.

not trying to be a dick, but high density cities across the globe are going to have a lot higher costs than Mankato, Minnesota (population 45,000) in just about every category.

Total cost isn't the issue.  It's the fact that they list the price for the room at X.  and then charge Y for fucking nothing.

But you did give quite the LOL at the basic economic lesson while being unable to read.

You had to pay extra to park at a hotel in Los Angeles. This is breaking news to you?

I’m just surprised you had to pay $3 to park in Mantako.

Do you expect them to just eat the cost of the property tax every year that the parking lot is sitting on? Or the R&M on the parking lot? This seems like a silly argument.

Sounds like those farms need some AR15s.

he is arguing against the itemization/surcharge/resort fee bullshit that has infected damn near every transaction.  It's fundamentally dishonest to advertise something as $89 then add on a $40 resort fee, $25 parking fee, $20 service fee...for a real price of $174

government.

And the parking lots there are managed by...wait for it....a private, for-profit contractor.

Not that there's a lot of difference.  Our entire economy and culture are based on a "maximum profits first, functional service/public good.....never" ethos.  Profit is not a bad thing.  Profits, and only profits, at the expense of everything else, to the detriment of everything else, is how we get enshittening.  When anything gets too far out of balance, it's usually a bad thing.  One doesn't have to be a communist to acknowledge that.  Just like one doesn't have to be an anarcho-capitalist to acknowledge that taking all profit out of the model is a recipe for decay, death of innovation and effort, and disaster.

Who sets the standards for the private contractor to bid on?  It's not hands off, I guarantee you.

No.  Total cost isn't my problem, except that I feel they should be more explicit about the total cost.

If I go to Target and get a $12.99 shirt, I expect sales tax at the register.  When i go to a restaurant, I expect both sales tax and to pay a tip.  My complaint about this parking fee is that it is just plain bullshit for no added service.  The parking lot exists whether I am there or not.  It is not covered, nor is the vendor providing security. It is not valet. It is just straight up margin enhancement.  My beef is that they should just reflect it in their initial price quote when you are shopping for the room.

To be honest, the $3fee in Mankato pissed me off for just the principle involved.  I was looking at my receipt a few days later and i was like, "Really bitches???  In that freaking wide open place?"  this coming from a dude who hails from wide open spaces of all wide open spaces in West Texas. Coming soon:  electricity access fee.  I mean, they gave me lights, it should cost more for them to actually work, right?

My complaint absolutely fits the spirit of this thread.

Yep.  Like....every single ticket for every event that you can buy, which MUST be purchased through a single vendor.  Thanks, SeatGeek...super pumped that you found me tickets for the concert for $90, but when I check out and the total cost is $175 because of added "convenience fee" and "paperless ticket fee," and "because our name has 'geek' in it fee," fuck all the way off.
