So do the following words: "If the president does it while he's in office, it's an official act."

That was the entire, valid point of concern about the dissent.  The POTUS could make a finding that Incredulity is a clear and present danger, have a drone strike hit your house, and there are zero repercussions.  Not a one.

So do the following words: "If the democratic president does it while he's in office, it's illegal. If the republican president does it while he's in office, it's an official act."

Everything makes more much sense when you realize that the Republican party thinks nothing Nixon did was wrong (with the exception of the clean water and air acts)

Yeah, the lesson they learned from Watergate wasn't to keep their noses clean, but rather to control the message more effectively to prevent the public from turning. They've been wildly successful.

Pardon for what?

Anything and everything.  I know you're not naive enough to believe there won't be in impulse -- and a willingness to act on it -- from the Trump administration or certain congresspeople from Western Colorado or Northern Georgia.

The gloves are off.  We're at war. Pick your metaphor.

Joey Christmas continues to deliver the American Dream

Number of 401(k) ‘millionaires’ just jumped by 9.5%
https://www.cnn.com/2024/12/05/business/401k-balances-fidelity/index.html

A new analysis by Fidelity Investments, one of the largest providers of 401(k) retirement plans, found that the number of accounts with balances topping $1 million rose by 9.5% in the third quarter.

All told, of the roughly 24 million participant accounts in the 401(k) plans for which Fidelity serves as record keeper, 544,000 of them had balances over $1 million, up from 497,000 in the second quarter.

The average balance in that group was $1.616 million, up from $1.595 million in the prior quarter.

Among Gen Xers — who are next in line for retirement — those who have been saving for at least 15 years had an average balance of just under $600,000, up 6% from the quarter before, according to Fidelity data.

And it found that the average balance for all participants who were saving for five, 10 or 15 years rose during the quarter.

The growth was due not just to market gains, but also a strong average savings rate of 14.1%, which includes employee contributions (9.4%) plus an employer match (4.7%).

“We are continuing to observe a dedication to saving for retirement, with contributions to these vehicles holding steady if not increasing,” said Sharon Brovelli, president of Workplace Investing at Fidelity Investments. “Consistent retirement contributions during various market cycles is important … (since they) will help set Americans up for a future of financial wellness and security.”

Biden should pardon all the illegal immigrants. Just issue a blanket pardon.

No fucking way.  We need them to all be rounded up and deported.  We need the pain and we need to watch their families suffer.

Saw headlines that now he’s commuted the sentence of a major fraudster in Illinois. What’s up with that?

i very fucking upset biden granted clemency to the fucking kids for cash judge. serious what the fuck was he thinking. who the fuck can defend this shit

Quote

Former Pennsylvania Judge Michael Conahan was convicted in 2011 in what was infamously called the “kids-for-cash” scandal, where he took kickbacks from for-profit detention centers in exchange for wrongly sending juveniles to their facilities. The case was widely considered to be one of the worst judicial scandals in Pennsylvania history.

Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, a Democrat, also said Friday at an unrelated news conference in Biden’s hometown of Scranton that, “I do feel strongly that President Biden got it absolutely wrong and created a lot of pain here in northeastern Pennsylvania.”

Here's the actual story on that.  Recall that during Covid, many federal prisoners were released to home confinement because of vulnerability (age, obesity, respiratory problems) to Covid running amok in federal prisons.  The CARES Act made that possible by altering the statute governing compassionate release.

After Covid passed, some GOPers wanted to send all of those released to home confinement back to prison.  Biden granted clemency/commutation to all of them, which happened to include this douchebag, so as to avoid the yoink from "tough on crimers."  He was due to complete his sentence in 2026 anyway.

The lesson that Trump has taught us all is that playing by the rules, norms and customs gets you absolutely nowhere. There’s a new playbook.

Which is funny, because if you ask any of the fucking morons who voted to ruin our country, they'll tell you that they're the ones playing by the rules. Not frustrating, in the least.

180 degrees from reality. And you can’t fix that. They WANT to be lied to and believe in a fake reality.

I understand the anger. It’s very frustrating. But we simply can’t let the country go to hell because politicians want to make either bad decisions or corrupt decisions just because other politicians do it.

One of the few things this country had going for it was the fact that its corruption and major decisions were at one point better than many (most) other countries around the world.

It also gives ammunition for the corrupt to say that everyone is either corrupt or incompetent. All of these pardons are bad decisions. Period. And as citizens we should never just accept bad decisions.

I sincerely hope to care about run-of-the-mill political misgivings again someday. But it's not going to be today.

what is the fucking benefit? why do it?

why is biden shooting himself in the foot over such a rancid person.

THE JUDGE TOOK BRIBES TO SEND INNOCENT KIDS TO FUCKING JAIL  - HE IS PURE EVIL.

It was a blanket clemency program for people that were released from prison during COVID and subsequently remanded to home confinement. He was one of 1,500 people that qualified. He would have been released in 2026. In a world where we have elected a rapist and convicted felon to the highest office in the land, I’m not going to lose sleep over a guy being released from house arrest a little over a year early. That does not mean I’m defending his crimes.

Let’s just talk about the first step: caring. Because there are a thousand different things you could do if you are fed up with corruption and/or incompetence.

But as several of you have shown, you failed the first step.  I’d like to hope that it’s because you’re frustrated, because I damn sure am as well. But for a few of you, it’s just pure hypocrisy, unfortunately.

One example of something I’ve done on another topic (that will have no effect I’m sure) is to write my congressmen about the recent ACA changes and the importance of fixing the current issues. It will probably be a waste of time, but if 50,000 other people also wrote their congressmen, maybe something would get done.

I refuse to let corruption and incompetence go completely unchecked. My New Year’s resolution is to take any small steps I can to push back on it.

Tax collections should be the next place we start to see real decay, that’s the hallmark of corrupt countries.  Tax evasion becomes a sport.

These.

Dbeasy, you are standing in the rubble asking for the bombing to stop.  It doesn't fucking matter anymore.  All that is left is rubble.  The only fight left in this country is 1) who gets to be king of the ashes, and 2) how much blood/money can they squeeze out of the suckers who remain, walking among the ashes?

I've tried caring, and taking lots of steps.

It doesn't work.  It's tiring.  It's frustrating in its futility.

Trust me on this -- not giving a fuck, and just looking out for you and yours, is the only way.  It also happens to be THE AMERICAN WAY, so double bonus: by relieving yourself of the burden of caring about anyone other than yourself, you are ALSO doing your patriotic duty!

I cared. A lot. I’ve been very involved in campaigns at the local and federal involved volunteering my time and money. I’ve authored a voter’s guide for my neighbors and friends for the last 5 years and done a ton to GOTV amongst that group. I’ve given up my time to work as a campaign worker in multiple elections, including the election in November. I’ve called my representatives to share my opinions on issues. I’ve cared more than the average voter. My fellow voters have spoken. I’m done caring. My mental health is much better for it.

This.

If the majority of Americans don't give a shit about a majority of Americans/actively want to inflict pain on other people/are too fucking stupid to see obvious lies to them for what they are.....why should anyone else waste .000000000000000000001% of a fuck caring about them?
