Joe Biden 2024 thread - Dark Brandon Where Art Thou?

Ignorant immigration law question.

Just as an academic discussion, would there be any benefit for undocumented immigrants if Biden issued a blanket pardon to anyone (millions) who broke our immigration laws? I know that a pardon would not convey citizenship but would this slow down Trump in deporting people if their act of coming across the border or overstaying their visa now cannot be prosecuted for that crime?

Or would it accomplish nothing and they could all be deported just as quick because it doesn’t impact their overall current immigration status.

to be clear, im not saying pardon undocumented folks for any crime they committed. Only their initial immigration crimes.

He would need specific names and time periods. I don't think he could say "if you were here undocumented from ____ to ____, you are pardoned for illegally entering the country".

Uh didn’t Carter out front with Vietnam draft shut already break this ground.

I'd imagine there's a huge difference between doing that for American citizens and people without legal protections. But I'm not a lawyer so maybe one of them can chime in.

Don't think so.  Carter did issue a blanket pardon by presidential proclamation and an associated Executive Order telling the AG to terminate all prosecutions and investigations of violations of the Military Selective Service Act.  https://www.justice.gov/pardon/proclamation-4483-granting-pardon-violations-selective-service-act

I think the latter was more effective than the former, legally.  Also, I suspect that limitations had expired on the vast majority of cases that hadn't been indicated by 1977.

As far as immigration goes, it is a civil proceeding and a criminal conviction of anything (including illegal entry) is not necessary for deportation.  So that was Trump's effort to popularize the whole thing, by variously calling them all criminals, or promising to deport only those convicted of crimes.

Non citizens do get protections within our legal system, at least theoretically. The bill of rights makes no distinction of citizens - it is the right of the PEOPLE.

Biden, in likely last round of student debt forgiveness before leaving office, cancels $4.28 billion worth for 55,000 workers

The Biden administration is canceling federal student loans for another 55,000 workers through an existing program known as Public Service Loan Forgiveness.

The Education Department's announcement Friday targets teachers, nurses, service members, law enforcement officials and others who've reached eligibility through the program, which promises to erase loans after 10 years of work in government or nonprofit jobs.

The $4.28 billion in relief is expected to be the final round of public service loan forgiveness before President Biden leaves office in January. After failing to deliver his promise of widespread loan cancellation, Mr. Biden has instead focused on expanding loan relief through programs that were created before his presidency.

Under Mr. Biden, the Education Department loosened the rules for Public Service Loan Forgiveness, which previously had a 99% rejection rate amid burdensome rules and widespread confusion over eligibility requirements

With the latest round of relief, Mr. Biden has now canceled an unprecedented $180 billion in federal student loans through existing programs, covering 4.9 million Americans. That includes $78 billion for roughly 1 million borrowers through the PSLF.

Nope.

Plain as day when something like 6 Senate/gubernatorial candidates wins their battleground state but Trump takes the W in those states instead of Kamala that its a she problem. Handing her the DEI candidacy after a last place finish the cycle before feeds into the rage.  House of representatives wouldn't be near as close, itd be ruby red.

Uncle Joe wasn't winning that when voters had a lower opinion of him than Trump. I get this your bit but you're not living in reality. The only thing that would've turned the tide is lower grocery prices and maybe the Fed lowering interest rates much earlier. Low information voters who vote against their own self-interests were going to do that regardless of who was at the top of the ticket. But hey, you can do hypotheticals like Joe Biden's an SEC team that should've been in the playoffs instead of Indiana for the rest of your life, I guess.

Did you read the article?

Did you?

These images are notable because they further undercut Joe Biden’s already-diminished unequivocal assertions that he never had any business-related contact with his son. In fact, the House Republicans’ impeachment inquiryinto Joe Biden uncovered at least two dozen interactions between him and his son’s business partners from China and other countries

posing for a photo is a business meeting in incredulity's world.

No, he admits attending multiple meetings, but business was never, ever, ever discussed.

You recall the episode where Hunter stopped a business meeting to take a speaker phone call with Joey Jo-Jo?  Totally normal to interrupt a business meeting to check in with dad over a speaker phone call.  I suggest you implement that in the nee year.  Whats the worst that could happen?

I finally had a mini blow up with my dad over him voting for Trump (lol wish I didn't need to remain mostly on his good side). I told him that I vote the way that I do because of the way he and my mother raised me; how the values and morals that they told me were important to a person's soul informed the way I evaluate leaders. I asked him how he could morally deal with himself after voting for someone like Trump. He got kind of a little sheepish look on his face, and I (unfortunately picking the wrong aspect of Trump's character to focus on in the moment) said "the man is a rapist." And his face turned grim and he looked me deadass in the eye and said "Joe Biden is a rapist."

I truly thought my father was more intelligent than that. I didn't realize just how pervasive the brain rot is. It's fuckin' over.

I do get the concept of trolling, but imagine being a MAGA idiot and pretending that you care about tax evasion or buying a gun while addicted to drugs and failing to admit that on a form.  Trump Jr spends his whole life completely gacked out of his mind and buys a lot of guns to take on his micro-pipi safari photo ops.  Dad is the most famous tax evader ever. You don't think people should have to fill out any paperwork to buy a gun. Imagine being that intellectually dishonest as a fun hobby, I guess?

I despair of the same exact thing with my father. Intelligent man who made nine year old me stand there through two hours of berating with threats of a whipping for snickering when a friend made fun of his little brother's facial tic.  But, he votes three times for this fucking guy:

It's fucking gutting to be so irretrievably disappointed in someone.

why should i be outraged about your fantasies?

I nearly had to end things with a friend from Houston over the EXACT same dis/misinformation. He literally had never heard of the allegations or convictions for sexual assault and was 100% convinced that every accusation levied at dotard was actually Biden. I asked him where the fuck he got his information and he didn't really answer. This isn't some old-ass dude, he's 40, socially liberal as fuck, but somehow got tied up with some really bad sources of information. I think he's clear(er) now, but damn that was a tough conversation. hadn't been that mad in a while. sorry to hear your dad still has his head in the sand. that shit sucks and is nearly impossible to unfuck
