Joe Biden 2024 thread - Dark Brandon Where Art Thou?

Hopefully those procedural protections provided defendants hold up but the point of the coming circus isn't necessarily to secure convictions or other penalties. It's for the spectacle of the investigations and Gym Jordan's hearings, to further muddy the waters and enable low information dipshits to say "derrr, they all a bunch of crooks" as Trump and the oligarchs practice unprecedented corruption in the open.

Hopefully our largest war material delivering planes are leaving the tarmac as the inauguration starts, delivering the last missiles and artillery shells and howitzers and drones to Ukraine.  “Wait! Those were not all drawdown stuff? Shoot. My bad…”

A dangerous precedent but if I were any of those people, I'd be really happy right now.

The dangerous precedent is when the incoming president is threatening prosecution even if it never comes to fruition. I dislike that Biden has to issues these pardons not that he did issue them. It's a final act of loyalty to these people who did the best they thought for the country AND legal experts agree that they didn't' break any laws.

Unlike the Trumpian fantasies of the prosecutions mounted against him, these will be actual bullshit charges that should be dismissed or acquitted hastily.

And will the years of attorneys fees for the Democratic defendants cost any less than if the charges were real?

Acquitted hastily and dismissed may have to come from circuit courts overturning the Cannons of the world.  Quickly in the legal world is still hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of fees.  That is pretty effective persecution no matter the ultimate result.

I'll say it; these family pardons are not a good look.

What isn't a good look is the incoming President having an enemies list. What isn't a good luck is Trump pardoning the participants in January 6th.  Get ready for Ashley Babbitt day to replace MLK.

Biden is just doing what is necessary to protect people.

It's a bad look but good for him.

Not just the immediate family but Milley, Cheney, Fauci, etc.  The R's were explicit about what they were going to do.

Now Trump will pardon all of thhe Jan 6 loons, even the ones who assaulted cops but we'll hear about the Biden pardons.

If they will have him, Biden should go on 60 minutes this week to provide his justification on his family and govt pardons on the last day. He should go on the record, in his own words, on why this was necessary when a new president has an enemies list and has threatened legal action to punish Biden via his family.

Also important to remind Trumpers that Trump also pardoned at least one relative who was 100% guilty of a crime. Talking about Jared's dad.

I was including the others in my broad "last rounds of pardons."

yes, the hyenas will crucify Biden, praise the all worthy Trump, and they will stare at tik tok like good brave new world epsilons consuming their soma.

I imagine that's why he did it, not out of fear that they would be convicted and sentenced, but that you can beat the rap but not the ride.

Criminal venue is quite narrow and would likely place most of these cases in DC, so fears of more Cannons are overplayed.  And she's an outlier even so.

And worrying about optics and following norms and general decorum had been going swimmingly until now.

Exactly.  Doesn't matter if the charges and "investigations" are complete BS.   The GOP can financially ruin these people with years of hearings on the charge of "You are a unicorn from Mars".  Who the fuck wants to defend themselves against these assholes with endless resources?   Pardons are absolutely warranted in the face of these non-serious politicians.

Biden looks 125 years old in recent pictures. Whatever close friends that told him he could run for reelection should be sentenced in The Hague.

The blame is on legacy election theory-- an incumbant does not give up the high ground of incumbancy. You saw it play out here where we were 50/50 on it EVEN after the debate.

The synapses in his brain are firing at about 40% speed. Criminal to try and run him out there for a brutal campaign and another 4 years.

Point of order, they can still do hearings.

Lincoln suspended habeas corpus. It was a bad look at the time…sometimes shitty situations call for doing the unsavory thing.

Biden should have done the same 4 years ago

Old paradigm: politics. That's where your post is. It's where the media remain. It's where the Dems remain. It's fucking gone.

New paradigm: war. This is a raw power contest where the Republic of the United States collapses into a banana republic while the majority of the citizens sing songs about how great we are.

Bad look for the outgoing president? Let's check the polling numbers? Is the CNN panel disappointed?

Biden's pardons are maybe the first sign that somebody is recognizing the paradigm shift. The incoming president has stated quite clearly and has a documented plan to use government against citizens who have broken no law. The outgoing president counters that move with one of the few weapons he has as the savages pour over the walls.'

Tomorrow belongs to them. It was largely conceded to them.

I guess I understand the pardons for the reasons discussed above.   I still think they are a bad look - because they are obviously.  Ultimately, the issue with the pardons for me (same with his son's) is not that they are warranted.  It's the Dems waiting too long to go full on war.   Slow rolling the prosecutions of Trump led us to Cannon who could then intentionally slow-play them until this election and here we are today.  January 6th was an act of war and the Dems thought they could steer for the high road and win the election and this would all go away.  If everyone thinks you are weaponizing the DOJ anyway - do it from day one before this stooge comes in and truly weaponizes it.

It sucks because it gives the right wing propaganda machine cover to say their bullshit about “the Biden crime family” is justified, but fuck them.

Hint: they're going to think/say that no matter what.

Even if you play it all the way out, 4 years of Senate hearings and trials with Trump approved judges, not a single charge sticks, Rand Paul and a bunch of shittastic lawyers get repeatedly dunked on and embarrassed...

...not a single damn mind will be changed. These people don't watch Senate hearings...they wait for their favorite podcast to tell them what to think about the Senate hearings.

This is basically what we’re down to as a society.

And it's because of the massive wealth inequality. Everyone is basically like, well..."if he (USA) dies, he dies." because 99.99% of the people don't have much to lose compared to the .01%
