i am not wanting to sacrifice virtues or PR over hunter fucking biden and what is at worst some minor jail time.   people of better people have sacrificed it all in the name of the republic

They are a lost cause yet they keep winning.

You want the “rule of law” in a country where that has, essentially, gone away. You can’t win it back by sticking with the current rules and norms and hoping and praying Americans see it your way.

Trump has long stated he planned on persecuting people for political differences and having the only surviving child of the former political rival used as a hostage could break down the resistance to fascism further.   Biden made the correct choice for his family and for America's future.

Some of you really don't know shit about history.

Republicans can call Hunter before Congress to testify about his business dealings now and the 5th Amendment no longer applies. He can be jailed for contempt of Congress.

From what I understand, that's incorrect.  A pardon can't be used to run an end-around on the 5th Amendment (note: I'm basing this on a discussion I heard on NPR from a gal who wrote a book on the pardon power and its history).  I found that surprising.

Trump already abused the pardon power to protect his family (Kushner’s dad, who is now named Ambassador lol) and friends (Bannon, Roger Stone, Manafort). The fake outrage over this is so dumb

Don’t forget Joe Arpaio and Michael Flynn. And that Navy SEAL war criminal. And just wait until he starts handing out pardons to Jan. 6 insurrectionists. Remember how he promised pardons to his followers if they engaged in violence against protesters at his rallies? He’s going to use the power of the pardon to incite all sorts of criminal shit in his second term.

I would think you just use the Clear and Present Danger “Senator, I can’t recall.” Defense and call it a day.

Counterpoint:

You just have to yell, "I want the truth".   Its cross examination truth serum...  Aaron Sorkin out front should have told you.

Not a shocking outcome here. Part of it is this is his only living son. I would posit most of us would do the same thing if we had that kind of power to protect our child from prosecution.

Does it make it right? No. I personally think Biden just finally said to himself “F it. You guys wanted me to step down as the nominee because I couldn’t win yet we still lost.” He is at least going to protect his son at this point. He has nothing left to lose. Caring about how he is remembered is not real important once you are dead and gone. That legacy stuff just matters to those still alive or the historians writing about it.

just proves once again the massively hypocritical double standard the populace has for each party. a literal rapist felon insurrectionist traitor who shares secrets with our enemies was just elected president. but a Dem prez pardons his son for politically motivated crimes and all of a sudden the skies are falling. dotard has all but shot someone on 5th Ave and Biden does the equivalent of steal a gumdrop from the Brachs display and everyone loses their goddamn minds. buckle the fuck up because if THIS is ruffling your feathers you will not survive the next four years.

This is exactly right. You can’t vote to reelect a guy who is the single most corrupt person to ever hold office and then complain that some other guy abused his power. You’ve already shown that you don’t care.  It’s Biden’s age scandal all over again

I’m assuming all the people who are upset about this will be back at 1 pm on January 20 after Trump pardons himself.

I think Biden should have pardoned Trump at the same time as his son.  Cleaning the slate, so to speak, would have taken away the right's talking points, and it's not like Trump will ever see justice for them anyway.

Plus, let's be honest, the chances that Trump won't commit more felonies in the future is so near zero as to be imperceptibly different.
