A little more…

John Harkes was the team captain.

Perhaps you could say that they were having leadership issues.

So it was a John Terry & Wayne Bridge-type situation, which broke a few months ahead of the 2010 World Cup.

AO and Barra need to do the right thing and say they will forego purchasing block tickets, gear, or memorabilia for the USMNT until the right decision is made.  Issue a credible threat and stick to it.  Money talks.

Exactly. Threaten to boycott the World Cup and mean it. No half measures.

Sampson had named Harkes "Captain for Life" and 2 factions quickly developed in the program

When Harkes was de-captained Sampson moved Chad Deering in to the role despite only having 17 caps over the prior 5 years

csb: I flagged Deering's U-6/U-8 games in the mid/late-70s

But FINALLY, I think that US Soccer is more likely than not to make a change… but they are holding off to see how long the uproar lasts.

My fear is they just wait it out.  Then after a disappointing home WC we have another sham election for fed president.  Rinse and repeat.

This is almost exactly how it's going to play out. Except I doubt the last part because the women are actually going to be good since they have a good coach.

Prior to the Copa, I thought there would be 0 chance GGG was let go, barring going 0-3.   Then with the loss to Panama, heavily being influenced by a red card, I thought that'd be the copout to not let GGG if we got grouped.    Now, with there being a universal call for GGG to be fired, from fans, supporter groups, former players and every single media member, I think they are going to have to make a change.   I have yet to come across anyone backing GGG to stay, well the players are, but that is simply Stockholm Syndrome.

Prior I was at 0.01% chance of GGG leaving, now I am at about 95% sure he is gone.

I don't see how they can wait this out. This isn't some vocal minority calling for his job - this is everyone. They say it about 5 minutes into this one after talking about the American Outlaws wanting him gone:

Again, we aren't talking only fans or only some of the media or anything odd. IT. IS. EVERYONE.

EVERYWHERE

Right now.  That's why they say they're doing a review and stall.  95% of the media in the US will forget soccer exists again by the day after the Copa final.  I hope like hell the nightmare is finally over but I'd put it close to 50/50.

This isn't blowing over. There is too much talk about it. Every day these tournaments go on, there is going to be talk about it. Both tournaments run until the 14th. That's 11 more days. In 2 days the coaches that many said (myself included) would have been a better hire than Berhalter will be coaching his Canada team in the Knockout stage. In 3 days the team that pants us to knock us out is going to be playing in the knockout stage.

Our next match will be in September and we are going to play JESSE MARSCH and Canada. if Gregg is still the coach, it is going to be a talking point.

And you have fans now opening revolting.

Hell, the Olympics are about to start and we are in them! There is going to be some chatter about the top team.

If there was 1 JUST ONE article out there saying "it's not so bad" I might worry this blows over. But I haven't seen it.

This isn't blowing over.

Honestly, at this point I am agree with the people saying that Berhalter should resign. He should. At least then he can walk out with his head up - I knew when to fall on my sword. But nope, he's gonna be dragged out of the building.

That's not going to do anything.  Every US game will sell out in '26.  If anything, it almost benefits US Soccer as they probably discount the block tickets given to the fan groups.

This isn't blowing over.

95% of Americans think that the Olympic men’s team is the same of the 1st selection men’s team.

They will see a different manager and ask if Gregg has been fired.

They will wonder where Christian Pulisic is.

They will hear positive comments about the revamped women’s team and their new manager making an impact.

They will think that the women would have been better if Alex Morgan were still on the team.

I present to you Soccer Fandom in the USA 🇺🇸!!

So it's a modified U-23 tournament with 3 players over that age limit allowed. But it's also not a FIFA tournament - so clubs don't have to release players for it, in fact they can restrict them from playing.

That brings us to the team we're sending and how UNSERIOUS we are, the US was asking for Jordan Morris. He's 29, but has the knees of an egyptian mummy:

More on the Olympic team, we left this guy off the roster.  Hes been a contributing u-23 member for a bit

1) Diego Luna absolutely should be on the US Olympic Team.

2) D.L. should absolutely switch to Mexico.

I thought that he would have trouble breaking into the Men’s team, but would be perfect change of pace for the Olympic squad and then U.S. Soccer said/

“We don’t want your kind around here.”

Sure he looks like a sneaky hitman for a Mexican drug cartel, but he’s OUR hit man for a Mexican drug cartel and he should be in Paris.

The Olympic roster hasn't been announced yet so Luna could still make the team.

the fed is clearly panicked - they sent out a "50% off !!" mail this morning for the fed store - never seen that before

so i scanned the entire sale and then the entire store looking for items that are different, unique, cool.... "authentica"

95% of all skus are generica, some on sale

the fed never restocks items with the exception of kit after a successful tournament - if you want it and the size is right don't wait for the price to drop

there are women's & youth versions of all Men's National Team kit

the small/verysmall/medium sizes of men's are fine for kids to grow in to

some of these items have the 4 stars over the crest, i.e. they are "Women's National Team" items, so take note if that bothers you

and there are also Women's National Team (with 4 stars) versions of all kit, with men's, women's & youth skus
