I missed it, I guess Johnny got injured?

He may have pulled his pão de quiejo.

EDIT:

Tessman kicks a ball to the moon and looked like he hit it into the ground first, but the bozo providing color commentary then says that he looked “fluid & clean.”

WTF?

Looks like they’re playing in a concrete underpass or drainage ditch with some cheap green turf rolled into it

That's an insult to concrete underpasses and drainage ditches.

Like seeing the team finally stand up for Pulisic

You know this is what leads to this:

When did Jamaica turn into bigger cocksuckers than Mexico?

When we played soft GGG ball, the MO for teams was to beat the shit out of our players, especially CP10, because we weren't going to stand up for our players. In this confederation you can't do that. You need some Marty McSorley types out there willing to throw down.

Poch wants more of this

Is it just me or is this field oddly narrow?

I think it's how low the stands are and how that angle makes the field look - because this is a full size 105 x 68 field.

Add in how wide the sides are (track + the velodrome).

I guess. I'm just looking at the space between the penalty area and the sideline. Seems smallish.

Stolen from big soccer:

We have 4 away wins in the last 11 years and 2 of those were against Grenada and St. Vincent and The Grenadines.

That's a great win! Even if it wasn't pretty, a win was never gonna be

Is this actually true?

you can look it up - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_men's_national_soccer_team_results

My gut says no, because I have 2 away wins for 2021 below. But I could be wrong.

The biggest issue is that in the GGG era mainly, we prioritized home games over getting better, so our schedule looks a lot like this:

image.thumb.png.f0a9aef1bd240f849920613d320c805c.png

22 games, 7 not on US Soil and only 4 of those were competitive games.

That stat might have been for competitive matches.

JAMAICA-USA EXPRESS:
Nov. 14 in Kingston
Jamaica 0 USA 1. Goals: Pepi 5.
Att.: 25,000.

Not easy on the eye was the soccer played on Jamaica National Stadium grass that looked like it had hosted a rodeo. Fortunately for the USA, Christian Pulisic and Ricardo Pepi navigated the divets to provide a 1-0 win in the Concacaf Nations League first-leg quarterfinal.

USA Player Ratings

(1=low; 5=middle; 10=high.)

GOALKEEPER

Matt Turner's mis-timed dive took down Shamar Nicholson. But Turner saved the 16th-minute penalty kick by Demarai Gray to keep the USA ahead. He punched away a cross from Gray the only other time Jamaica threatened in the first half. Turner coped well with back passes on the bumpy field and made a spectacular save on a Leon Bailey's corner kick that was curving into the goal by the near post. In the 75th minute, he headed clear a through-ball 10 yards outside the penalty area to prevent Romario Williams from getting a shot off goalkeeper Andre Blake's sidewinder punt.

DEFENDERS

Right back Joe Scally's intercepted pass led to the Jamaican attack that ended with Turner's penalty-kick foul. A few minutes later, he committed a needless foul in Jamaica's half.

Left back Antonee Robinson in the 7th minute squandered the USA's best chance to make it 2-0 when Pulisic sent him through for a one-on-one with Blake. He was beaten by Bailey when Mason Holgate nearly scored.

Mark McKenzie allowed Demarai Gray to send in the dangerous cross that Turner punched to safety and couldn't stop the charging Nicholson on the penalty for Jamaica, but otherwise he played flawlessly. He smoothly stepped in front of Nicholson to prevent a close-range shot and blocked Nicholson's effort when he did pull the trigger moments later. In stoppage time, McKenzie pulled off an overhead clearance on a through ball to Williams.

McKenzie and his composed central partner Tim Ream, aided by a host of defensive midfielders, limited the Reggae Boyz to one shot besides the saved penalty kick. On the penalty, Nicholson roasted Ream.

MIDFIELDERS

A midfield long on brawn and short on attacking inventiveness meant offensive spark depended on Pulisic coming back for the ball. But it succeeded in taming the Reggae Boyz.

Yunus Musah's offensive contributions were limited to a clever pass to Malik Tillman that resulted in the USA's only corner kick and surging forward briefly early in the second half. His moment of the match came when he interfered without fouling to thwart a goal-area tap-in by Holgate.

Tanner Tessmann shot high and wide by a mile in the 32nd minute and drew two free kicks, one after dribbling impressively through a crowd of Jamaicans. But he too played mainly a defensive role.

Weston McKennie struggled to show positives on the ball and displayed worrying lapses in composure. First, a needless shirt-pull deep in Jamaica's half earned him a 50th-minute yellow card, followed by his involvement in a scuffle. Mauricio Pochettino wisely took him off in the 72nd minute.

Johnny Cardoso exited injured in the 21st minute, replaced by Tillman.

FORWARDS

An early goal is excellent tonic for an away-game challenge, which is what Ricardo Pepi provided in a rare start. Christian Pulisic accelerated too quickly for three converging Jamaicans to intervene and delivered the ball into the path of Pepi, who timed his run perfectly before hitting the net off the far post (1-0).

Pulisic's frequent moves into midfield included defensive toil late in the game, when he also set up a Brandon Vazquez chance.

SUBSTITUTES

Malik Tillman's foul on Damion Lowe led to a midfield free kick that Jamaica translated into its best second-half chance. On a field that perhaps needed beach soccer acumen to create productive possession, Tillman and Gianluca Busio, like their fellow midfielders, were more effective at disrupting Jamaica's rhythm than establishing any for the USA.

The center forward off the bench, Brandon Vazquez hesitated when Pulisic set him up and failed to pull the trigger on a narrow-angle shot that, if struck hard, would have caused problems for Blake. When Vazquez had plenty of time to shoot from longer range, his effort trickled into Blake's arms.

I feel like the field conditions actually favored the US.   Feels like it totally took away the quick counter.

Maybe. I think we bag 2 or 3 on a better pitch.

Agree a 6 is crazy. He put in an 8 shift. Unless you blame him for the pen but, you know, he did save it.

Thought he, CP and McKenzie were our best players.

Between Aguirre & Iron Mike Tyson, last night’s theme was “Old Dude’s Getting Bloodied”.

Kind of a downer for Gen X and older.

I’m not sure why other federations just do not get this. If you treat the fans like animals and stick them behind cages, don’t be shocked when they act like animals.
