Yes. That is the only comparison I have. But for any school to achieve what Alabama did would be a rare occurence. But, I am talking about Texas. When have we ever done that?

If it doesn’t happen that often it clearly isn’t an indicator of success given someone wins the championship yearly. So who gives a shit?

This thread about to heat up end of April...

The spring transfer portal officially opens on Saturday, April 15, 2024, and closes on Sunday, April 30, 2024, giving just 15 days for players to enter the portal.

With only 15 days to enter the portal, the timeframe is much shorter than the winter period, and it is important to remember that a player only needs to enter the portal during those dates. Once their names are in the portal, they are free to complete their move at any time.

The NCAA Transfer Portal window re-opens April 15. With a new wave of free agency to begin in the next week and a half, it is a good time to take a look at where Texas sits on the scholarship counter.

Texas sits at 89 scholarship players as I type this out on April 3rd.

Of course, this goes without having K Bert Auburn on scholarship at the moment as well.

The Longhorns will need to get down to 85 scholarships by the beginning of the 2024 season. It goes without saying, but expect some attrition this spring, especially if Texas looks to add to their roster via the portal when the window opens.

So with 4 freshmen set to arrive this summer and Silas Bolden from the portal they need to lose like 9-11 guys to get to 78-80 before those enrollments. Plus 1-2 more portal guys.

Incorrect. The guys who signed and not on campus plus Bolden are part of the 89. Add Auburn and you’re at 90.  If they add 3 guys from the portal, they need to lose 7.

I don’t count many names I’d want to lose on that list. Roster is in great shape.  If I had to pick 7 it would be Red, Niblett, one of Randle/Shannon, Merrill + 2 OL out of the soph/rs fresh list, Swanson.

Where would we add from the portal, besides DT? We have real first world problems at corner after #3, I guess. #4 being Roberson or Black.

Edit: Punter.

I just did that thought experiment and got the exact same answer.

Likely Tapp's.  He should be able to get more playing time and NIL from other schools -- I'm guessing in the B12.

This makes me wonder about the perception of prospects in the NIL era.  Used to be, a player who transferred from a tier I program like Texas to say, Kansas State or Texas Tech would inevitably face questions as to why they downgraded.  Nowadays, a player like Tapp, who presumably was on the right track will be hard distinguish from a player like <insert Aggie transferring out here> to the casual observer.

Tapp was apparently getting tapped up, to use an appropriate soccer term, by other programs and has NIL money waiting for him. Any serious fan or scout will know.

RB Savion Red is likely going into the portal per Pete Thamel...

DL Bill Norton from Arizona has committed...

The 6’6 325 DL totaled 43 Tackles and 2 Forced Fumbles in his college career

I really wish this year Choice would just take 1 RB in Stewart and 2 for '26 in Guillory and someone else. I'm not a fan of Simon, but what do I know? It seems ridiculous to keep taking 2 RB'S in each class unless they're both top 100-type.

Hate to say it but Rod Babers routinely questions what the DBs are looking at and diagnosing out in the 2ndary. He questions their basic understanding of fundamental aspects of the position which leads me to believe that he questions the coaching their receiving. Someone like Brooks, whose Dad is a DB coach himself, would be just the player to bolt if his Dad feels he's receiving inadequate or conflicting directions.

Babers was extremely disappointed when Akina didn't join the Texas staff as an analyst.  It's frustrating that the one consistent area that has not improved under Sark is the secondary.  🙄

DBs on this level don't repeatedly get burned by 20 yards because they suck. This happens because theyre confused on what theyre supposed to be doing.

DBs at this level should have. Basic understanding of the position and should be able to resort to previously acquired skills that made them a D1 prospect instead of acting like they had a lobotomy and forgot everything from pop warner on up.  Such as turning your head around. Raising your arms to defend a pass. Or not getting smoked by everyone opposite

I see roughly 3, maybe 4 names on that list I'd like to keep for depth, but ultimately I don't think any of them would be the difference in winning a championship or not.

From the peanut gallery Brooks seems to have blamed the coaches for not being our number one corner instead of the other talent at his position, so he bailed instead of upping his game.
