It should not have been, for sure.  Both players were all the way in-bounds.  The ref probably threw the flag for 2 reasons: 1) the angle Mahomes was running was obviously to the sideline/ OOB, but as previously stated, he doesn't deserve benefit of the doubt after he has gamed some defenders in the past and 2) it was a hellofa ( clean) hit.  Hey it's football.  Let's go.

Officiating in general has been inconsistent as hell.  It is used more like a governor on momentum than actually calling the play  Refs are "framing the pitch" in their own minds.

Bottom line is that defenders have to stop the play first.  That's what they control.
