They're not worried about cartels, or trying to make Biden look weak, etc. It's literally just another wedge issue to get stupid people to vote against their interests. The same thing with abortion, gay marriage, book bans, guns. "They are suppressing votes and want a dictator, but [the babies/the gays/porn in schools/muh guns/the Mexicans]. That's it, nothing more, nothing less.

Just because secession would be incredibly stupid doesn't mean there aren't enough dumbass aggy in this state for it to happen.  I don't think there's nearly enough serious support for it now, but if they keep this kind of talk and behavior up and it goes unanswered, support will grow.

Buddy, this is a Texas message board. I'm pretty sure most of us libs still own guns. I own eight.

This.  The cosplay Gravy Seals masturbate to our ARs crowd has mentally climbed to the top of Mount Fuck Around.  They have this delusional belief that they are the sole armed people in American society, and the only ones who are willing to shoot bad guys.  They masturbate to and fantasize about doing so, with fervor.  The rest of us?  We very, very, very much do NOT want to do so.  But here's the thing....if pushed to the point where it becomes necessary, we will.  We will like a motherfucker.  The mentality is not that different than what you've seen in the military over the years.  The guys who show up strutting around, acting all Billy Badass, "I can't wait till I get to shoot somebody?"  They're often pure shit when the lead actually begins to fly.  The guys who show up, don't talk shit, learn, and simply do their duty?  They're the ones who get the dirty business fucking done.  Because it's fucking business.  It's not fun, it's not something to look forward to, it's not a source of joy.  It's a job.  So, fucking get it done.

I agree with you.  More than anything, this is about A) making Biden look like a buffoon/weak and B) giving him a tar baby to deal with while trying to campaign ala Trump's legal jeopardy.

But, I do think there is potential there for this to escalate to some sort of tipping point.  All it takes is for Biden to send in feds to establish order and then one gravy seal to do their best Ashlii Babbit impersonation on camera and we have a Kent State event where Biden's government looks like what they say it is.  At that point, I think Brisket's darkest nightmares look plausible.

These states cannot secede - period.  Texas especially.  Pretty much would become a third world country within 5 years - all these businesses propping up Texas with jobs and people (and thus, taxes) would get the fuck out as fast as possible.  Likely all the O&G companies sticks around, but Texas would just become some version of Qatar, filled with aggys and uneducated racists, while businesses like AT&T, American Airlines, Dell, Apple, all the top hospital staff in Houston, etc. moving out faster than the Clampetts headed to Beverly Hills.  These companies aren't going to base their new businesses in the Republican of Texastan and those dumbfucks in Austin trying to run a fucking country.

The other states trying to be viable without the tax money they get from states like Illinois, California, NY?  L-O-fucking-L, there might be countries in Africa richer than they'll end up.

Nope, I own none and I will be getting the fuck out immediately rather than get a gun than fight.

Texas is nothing special - it's just a state.  My passport doesn't say Texas citizen.

They should be doing that now, or like yesterday. No need to make a big deal out of it, but move your fucking headquarters already if you give a single shit about democracy. But they wont, because they don't, sure they fuck with peoples' lives, but they make sure the billionaires and shareholders don't pay taxes, that's all that matters. Yay Texas.

I've recently advocated for making all guns illegal.

Here's the deal:  they aren't, and they won't be any time soon.  I've never owned a gun more powerful than a Crosman C02 BB gun.  That's about to change.  (First, I'm signing up for a class.)

The point is that A) not everyone here owns a gun, B) some people here think all guns should be illegal and C) they may need to rethink those positions depending on how this continues to play out.  I can understand the desire expressed by some in this thread to just leave Texas (I did that while back).  But this conservative challenge to the federal government isn't going to stop at Texas borders.  Even if warranted, if Biden sends the feds into Texas to establish order and protect the sovereignty of the federal government, what do you think Trump will do to blue states if he wins?  Give them a hall pass for taking him off the ballot?

They still enjoy many of the benefits of the US government infrastructure being headquarted in Texas.  That all goes away with secession.

Do you think American Airlines sticks around while the Republican of Texastan tries to hastily put together an FAA and negotiates how many flights are allowed to fly to the United States? (preferably none, there should be an immediate travel ban for anyone not applying for asylum)

Same with AT&T and the FCC.

There isn’t any actual challenge. This is all just show. Texas isn’t going to secede and neither is any other state.

It's not about fighting over for me.  It's about dying over.  Because while I don't mind shooting these traitors in the fucking face, presumably they're going to be liable to shoot back.  And no--I have no interest in getting shot for this shithole state.

And I say that as a 6th-generation Texan.  But you know why I'm not a whatever-th generation Czech or Englishman?  Because my forebearers had the good sense to leave when the time was right.  And I have no intention of staying someplace when it makes a lot more sense to leave.

Let these fuckfaces have fun as their own shithole country if they want.  I will move to California or New York or Ontario or some other place that isn't 10,000* in the summer and where I'm not surrounded by a bunch of fucking morons.

So we do not have money for schools but we have money for this? Do the "volunteers" receive their duty pay as well? Two things come to mind. 1- These people would be needed to deploy on Natural Disaster missions or for Federal Duty. 2- This was not spell checked.

Operation Lone Star integrates TMD with the Texas Department of Public Safety to deploy border security assets to high threat areas to deny criminal organizations the ability to illegally move drugs and people into Texas.

The Texas Military Department has new full-time positions available for the Operation Lone Star border support mission. These positions offer an array of benefits including lodging and per diem of $55 per day. Volunteers must be medically and administratively deployable and a military members of the Texas Military Department. Fill out the form below, contact your readiness NCO.

In the clash between federal and state governments, there have been four major crises in our country's history: the Nullification Crisis, the Civil War, school integration in the 50s/60s, and this current border issue.

So, three out of the four were about keeping down people of color. But don't worry, everyone, we are totally not a racist country.

Whiskey Rebellion could probably fit in there.  More of a local vs feds, but still.

I love the Texas Military Department's "Vision" statement:

Quote

Our Vision: America’s premier state military organization comprised of professional mission-ready forces, fully engaged with our communities, and relevant through the 21st century.

Oh, you're premier, professional, fully engaged AND relevant?  Well, stand back!

Now, the minute a Guardsman goes to an Army school for any kind of training, there are regular, real PT tests, so some will stay in decent shape for that. Or just because they want to. But there'll be the occasional Pillsbury Doughboy who is probably the only one who knows how to fix the widget machine or do the get-paid paperwork.
