Wake the fuck up.  Look at everything else Lankford ever said or did.  One for-show-only “right” (knowing it would result in nothing happening) doesn’t make up for a lifetime of being a piece of shit MAGA fuck.

I’m inclined to believe this. His voting record put him as one of the most “conservative” in Congress.  Now that he’s going against the cult in this instance doesn’t mean he isn’t a cult member.  It could just mean he’s an opportunist. I could be wrong, but someone please refute that. I’m willing to learn.

Before Lankford got into politics, he was an ordained Southern Baptist preacher in charge of Falls Creek, the Oklahoma Southern Baptist youth camp, for over 10 years.  The Southern Baptist Church is currently embroiled in a huge pedo’ing scandal.

I did not know that. I have rather fond memories of Falls Creek. Not the church part of it obviously, but let's say the social aspect. You just can't cram that many young boys and girls together and not expect them to make their way together. Sometimes in some biblical ways. Not that I would know anything about that last part. Seriously, I was a dork with zero game. Still had fun though.

Texas expects to spend more than $140 million to build and initially run a base camp for soldiers stationed along the border with Mexico, according to records obtained Friday by KXAN.

A purchase order from the Texas Military Department provided a more detailed look into the cost of the 80-acre facility currently under construction in the border community of Eagle Pass, which is at the epicenter of tensions between state leaders and the federal government over immigration enforcement. Gov. Greg Abbott announced the base camp project during a news conference one week ago, and at the time he only said the expense would be “minimal.”

$140 million.

Greg says its expanse would be “minimal”.

The record shows the state awarded the contract for this project to Team Housing Solutions, a company based in New Braunfels. According to the purchase order, the state is anticipating the total cost for construction to be $38,529,140.45.

It’s estimated the cost then to run the base camp will be $14,553,212 per month. With the initial contract set to last from Feb. 8 to Sept. 7, Texas can expect to spend $101,872,484 during that time to keep it going.  The purchase order stipulates the state also has options to renew the contract for two one-year periods after that initial seven-month period, so the expenses could grow even higher into the hundreds of millions.

Little Ronnie wants to remind people, he exists.

Quote

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis bid farewell to over a hundred members of the Florida National Guard and highway patrol as the troops head to Texas’ southern border Friday.

“This is part of a years-long effort for us to help do what the federal government has refused to do,” he said in a press conference. DeSantis repeatedly thanked the agents, who will join 90 members of Florida law enforcement already at the border. He said many of the troops volunteered for the trip and have participated in multiple deployments to Texas, which can vary in length.

You’d think the Jade Helm idiots would not be thrilled to have other states send their law enforcement into Texas,

https://www.kxan.com/news/texas-politics/5th-circuit-rules-texas-immigration-enforcement-law-can-take-effect/

Quote

An appeals court ordered that a Texas law that gives state police the ability to arrest and effectively deport migrants will be allowed to take effect in the coming days, unless the U.S. Supreme Court intervenes.

On Saturday, the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals overturned a lower court’s ruling that temporarily blocked Senate Bill 4 from going into effect.

Quote

U.S. District Judge David Ezra’s issued a preliminary injunction halting the law last Thursday, saying it violates the Constitution’s supremacy clause and is in conflict with the nation’s immigration laws.

The appeals court did not give explanation for its decision and set seven days before its order takes effect, giving the Department of Justice time to appeal. If the Supreme Court does not take up the case within the week, SB 4 will take effect while the legal battle over its constitutionality continues.

Quote

Gov. Greg Abbott signed SB 4 in December, touting it as a historic measure to empower Texas state and local law enforcement to control immigration — a power currently only reserved for federal authorities.

The law creates a new state crime for crossing into Texas outside of a port of entry, punishable as a Class B misdemeanor. Repeat offenders could face a state jail felony, and state magistrate judges may order them to return to Mexico.

Quote

Opponents have argued the bill violates the supremacy clause under the U.S. Constitution, which gives the federal government ultimate authority in enforcing immigration laws, which has been reinforced by a 2012 landmark U.S. Supreme Court ruling in Arizona v. United States. After Arizona passed a similar law to SB 4, the High Court ruled that it is not within state and local police officers’ powers to arrest someone based on their immigration status.

how long before Greg or MAGA law enforcement starts deputizing the militia nutters to engage in this stuff?

Meanwhile, Greg is still offering a taxpayer-funded bus ride from the border to any who make it across, so will that continue?

What the everloving fuck. Cops can legally profile fucking whoever they want and deport them with no recourse.

Inb4 the supreme court decides to wait to address this issue so that they can really let some blood flow at the border.

Quote

The Supreme Court on Monday temporarily froze enforcement of Texas’controversial immigration law that allows state law enforcement to arrest and detain people they suspect of entering the country illegally.

Justice Samuel Alito issued the administrative hold, which will block the law from taking effect until March 13. That temporary pause will give the court additional time to review the case but does not necessarily signal which way the court is leaning. (Alito oversees the federal circuit that handled the case.)

Quote

The Biden administration and several immigration groups filed an emergency application with the Supreme Court hours earlier asking the justices to block enforcement of the law.

Without intervention, the law would have gone into effect on the morning of March 10. The Justice Department said that would “profoundly” alter the status quo “that has existed between the United States and the States in the context of immigration for almost 150 years.”

I’m somewhat surprised.

https://www.meidastouch.com/news/supreme-court-extends-block-on-texas-law-allowing-state-police-to-arrest-migrants-at-border

Quote

The United States Supreme Court extended a block on a Texas immigration law Monday that would give Texas police the right to arrest migrants at the border, after a challenge by the Biden Administration.

Justice Samuel Alito issued the ruling against the law that was originally scheduled to take effect on March 10th. This is the third time Alito has extended the block on the Texas law, called Senate Bill 4, which is now extended indefinitely. The final decision on the law will now go to the full Supreme Court, but the timeline on a decision is unknown.

Quote

Disgraced Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has said in defense of SB4 that the Constitution "recognizes that Texas has the sovereign right to defend itself from violent transnational cartels that flood the state with fentanyl, weapons, and all manner of brutality.”

The Biden Administration sued to block the Texas law, stating that it violated Federal supremacy on enforcement of immigration and could harm international relations.

Bro, do you even qualified immunity? Alito will fall all over himself to rule that even militia members have been deputized by SB4 and accordingly are entitled to QI, just like the cops.

That was a bad example.  I'm thinking something more like this, but worse, cuz we're Texas ...

Qualified immunity: Ohio police killed Luke Stewart (usatoday.com)

Quote

Luke Stewart, a 23-year-old Black man, was asleep in his parked car on March 13, 2017, when he was approached by police officers Matthew Rhodes and Louis Catalani. He was parked legally in Euclid, a suburb of Cleveland, and he wasn't posing a danger to anyone.

Catalani knocked on Luke’s window, startling him awake. They did not announce themselves as officers. Luke sat up and started the car. Catalani and Rhodes immediately opened Luke's car doors and reached inside to forcibly remove him. Catalani grabbed Luke’s arm, and he wrapped his arm around Luke’s head and pulled, while Rhodes pushed from the passenger side.

Scared, Luke attempted to drive away, but Rhodes jumped into the passenger seat. Luke looked at Rhodes and asked, “Why are you in my car?”

Rhodes attacked Luke. He punched him, stunned him with a Taser six times, then used the Taser to strike him in the head. Luke never hit back. Moments later, Rhodes shot Luke five times, killing him. Rhodes had been in the car with Luke for only about one minute before he opened fire.

Rhodes had no reason to jump into Luke's car, let alone to use deadly force against him. The 6th Circuit Court of Appeals held that a jury could find that Rhodes’ decision to shoot Luke had violated his constitutional rights. However, even acknowledging this, the court dismissed Luke’s civil rights lawsuit. Why? Because of the hotly debated, court-created doctrine of qualified immunity

In summary, a poorly-drafted, poorly-thought out law + loose cannons enforcing it + judiciary run amok = lots of innocent dead people.

It's a completely foreseeable outcome, but the GQP (and Fatty) will still manage to act surprised when it comes to pass, despite repeated warnings.

Just to make a point - there was ALMOST no prosecution of that murder. The good ol boy system almost buried it and if it weren't for the nationwide protests for BlackLivesMatter and their own fuckup to post the video as a brag some weeks after the murder, it very likely would have been swept under the rug.

I just don't see that as an example of things going right and something to repeat. That's the safeguards barely catching the  abusers, not the normal and timely procession of justice.

Correct. And I was on the first or second page if that thread saying burn the guys down.   Still, people killing people, then being held responsible for their act is how it’s supposed to work.   I can’t speak to the asshole with an AK at low ready getting shot by an asshole hiding his piece in a car. Seems like FAFO applies well there, where it did not in Abery’s case.
