The donors need to feel they will get ROI. Without that, the NIL will be lacking. But trust me, the money is there.

Is it? Right now I don't think it is.

It has become very very expensive to field a top level football program in this climate, and I don't think the money is being allocated for basketball right now. Maybe that changes with a new HC, but at the moment it doesn't appear to be there. I'd like to see the numbers on it.

I couldn't bring myself to watch this game. I knew what was coming. The season through the UCONN game was all I needed to see to know where this is headed. This is a poorly developed team in every facet.

When you hear things in the off season about how not going for a certain player because they’re demanding a lot of NIL because you don’t want to upset players on roster or etc you know the budget is limited. I feel like we heard that multiple times. Basketball does have money but it doesn’t have the coach to generate more.

This shitty roster is on Terry and going after two Indiana st guys from a team that didn’t make the tourney last year then acting like we added two studs is laughable. No big men when we needed big men and here we are. We can’t rebound and we go through large stretches of games and can’t score. When we do win it’s because we play hero ball offense and need someone to go off for us to have a shot. And you watch, if we win one of these games at home it will be because tre johnson or kaluma go off and the Terry defenders will say Terry is great. We might win 4-6 sec games this year.

They might win like 5 conference games at best, let’s just hope that enough to get him fired.

I'll be shocked if cdc fires him this year no matter what. unless we won 0 sec games. that might be the only way, so we will say we "have" to give him 3 years knowing he won't win again next year and waste another season for the inevitable. yayyy.

When you look at the rest of the athletic dept, basketball sticks out like a sore thumb. There is no way they allow another year to waste, just to run out the clock on a terrible hire.

Also I can't imagine there will be a lot of people coming to Terry's defense this time around.

Especially with revenue sharing and early indication is basketball will be only behind football in terms of that.

I think a lot depends on what kind of money is there for basketball at this point. Not much sense in changing coaches if the NIL isn't there for a better coach to start competing next year. If he's back after only winning a few conference games and missing the tournament, I think that signals CDC feels he needs more time to get the money allocated for basketball to get a proper coach and build a team that competes in the suddenly extremely stout SEC.

Football is the big money spender, but CDC has also recently gotten the money in to get the expensive Schloss hire in baseball and get that program off the ground. There's no doubt he wants to do the same for basketball, but the question is when will there be enough big money support for the sport to get there. With so many mid tier NIL level schools that make basketball their priority over football, it's quite a bit more expensive than baseball to get up to the top level.

Um yeah where is this lack of NIL concept coming from? On paper, RT landed a great class this offseason that couldn't have been cheap - Mark, Pope, and Kaluma were all averaging like 15/game in the P4. Everyone wanted Tre Johnson. Larry and Kent were very solid for a tournament team. There's no way that group was cheap.

Beard built a top 10 team in, what, about 18 months? We haven't even played a game under Schloss yet and baseball's upward trajectory from where it was is staggering. I think we'll be ok in basketball with the right hire (preferably not an assistant with middling success at mid-level schools previously).

When the coaching subject comes up we always mention big name coaches already at big programs.  Why are we so afraid to hire an up-and-coming coach from a smaller program?  Bama hired Oates from Buffalo.  Florida hired Golden from U of San Francisco.  Iowa St. routinely hires from powerhouses like U of New Orleans, Utah St., Northern Iowa, etc.  I think we might be well-served by at least considering highly successful, dynamic coaches at smaller programs.  Plus, you avoid having to pay a huge buyout.

I think because we all knew we needed another big man and let Tech outspend us for Toppin.

Is it true that CDC and Schlossnagle met with Buzz Williams until 3am this morning? I haven’t heard any announcements.

Did CDC and Schloss hide in the same cemetery waiting for Buzz to get home before the meeting.

Larry and Kent didn’t make the tourney at Indiana st and the other fat slob that went to St. Louis was the “best player” or supposed to be. I never understood the clamoring over these guys and neither have done jack shit.

Kent is a solid role players and Larry is fine as your 8th or 9th best player.  The roster is actually really well constructed IMO.  If Chris Beard had this team, I have zero doubt they would be ranked in the top-10.  He would be running a positionless switch everything defense that would be a nightmare with our forwards.  Shedrick would be getting 10 minutes per game, not starting.

A 20 point blow out loss at A&M is enough to fire the guy.  It really is that simple.  The bad news is there will be many more just like it or worse in the coming weeks.  A&M was what like 2-19 from 3?  Wade Taylor played like shit and they still won by fucking 20.  It isn't like this is a young roster full of future stars learning how to play together.  The roster will be turned over again next season, there is absolutely zero in the cupboard.  Which is exactly why it is the right time to move on.

I'm sure CDC knows how the money works and the low contract number tells me he didn't have much trust that Terry was the guy even though they wanted him.  we start losing in ugly fashion the fact that Terry is buddies with certain folks isn't going to matter.  If he's spent that last year or so making sure he's ready for the next hire then hopefully Terry as the stop gap will have worked out.

Let's be honest, this 2-year (minimum) run by RT was a financial windfall.  He'll be OK.  He was making less than $750K at UTEP and is at ~ 4X that amount here.

for sure.  did anyone express concern for RT?  he never sees this type of contract if he isnt the assistant when Beard goes dumbass.  Good for him.  I don't see him cashing checks, he's not mailing it in.  he's busting his ass to the best of his ability IMO but it doesn't matter.
