Fire Rodney Terry

No duh. We got RT on the cheap, just like Sark. We will have to match or exceed what it was for Beard ($5m) when, not if, CDC hires someone with skins. Because that he does. Our BB coach budget isn’t going to magically shrink from what he paid for CB

I mean high profile sports are a result-oriented business model if there ever was one, and when it comes to year 3 Rodney Terry, where are the results that the The University of Texas presumably should want them to be?  Sadly, all of this manifesting future was highly predictable when the university “settled” for Terry after giving Beard the axe.  You could argue that doing so freed up resources to be thrown at the higher priority football program, but it seems there should be enough resources at Texas to allocate to both programs.  Now whether or not there’s the same interest externally to enhance both programs is up for discussion

I still contend the AD did the wrong thing firing him. That was a situation that called for a suspension for the season, and rehabilitation with anger management training during suspension.

Dude has Ole Miss at 15-3 losing to a top 15 team in OT by 3 already. RT can't stay within 20 of Florida.

2 years later I'm saying the same things I said then. Terrible decision. The program is in shambles and it's their own fault.

You can't have a leader beating women, then tell the youth to do the right thing to rep the university.

If a player does it, he is gone the next day. The leader can't have a lesser expectation and consequence.

The 10 highest salaries in CBB are reportedly $9.63M (KU's Self) down to $4.53M (Alabama's Oats).  For reference, Beard made $5.26M, which I presume we would be willing to exceed by quite a bit.  #3 on the current list is Izzo (MSU) at "only" $6.2M, and we're not going to go after him, nor Self or Calipari.  Essentially, money won't stop us from landing whoever we would pursue in the college ranks.

Yep. All it would have taken was a phone call to CDC

“Hey boss, I’m in a situation and I need to get out of my house tonight until things calm down with Randi”

“Sure thing Chris, go use my suite at the AT&T conference center. Stay there until things cool off, we have your back”

Ole Miss is right now and they're top 25 in the country. They obviously aren't having problems getting players to play for him. Where is Texas ranked?

That's the whole point. He was going to get a second chance no matter what in college basketball. The second chance should have come here. Exceptional talents get exceptional leeway for a transgression, it's the American Way.

The only loser here is the UT Basketball program and it's fans.

If a player does it once he's kicked off the team unless he's an exceptional talent. Then he's suspended for a while. I'm not going to name names, but I personally know of 2 UT football players that had incidents/allegations with domestic violence behind the scenes when I was on campus. Neither was kicked off the team.

The powers that be need to decide if they want to attempt to be a big player in this sport and challenge for a title. If not, we'll see it with their actions. Right now, I do not believe they are a serious program. So my expectations are extremely low, the goal is making the tournament and nothing more.

Gerry said tonight that if the tournament is missed this year it is “very dicey” for Terry.

Reading between the lines and knowing the relationships he has in the program, that is his nice way of saying Terry would be gone.

Bringing back RT for another year if Texas misses NCAA Tournament would be insane.

This is so infuriating, because it's not like Terry was some relatively unknown, up and coming 30 year-old we took a wild chance with. We knew exactly who Rodney Terry was. A very mediocre head coach at schools that Texas wouldn't hire from anyway. In his mid-50s. This is always what was going to happen.

Pretty much exactly the points I made 22 months ago when Terry was offered the perm gig. This was never a good idea. CDC was backed into the corner by a strong tourney run. Zero chance Terry gets the job if he didn't have the interim job.

I've been patient with RT but I think it's trending towards him needing to leave at the end of this season.

Texas should have found a way to take one of these last four (not including OU who is a joke of a fucking program right now) and we got waxed in two of them.

It should be pretty easy to do better with a new arena and under NIL rules.

That said the Beard talk is fucking irritating at best at this point. Texas can and do will better this next cycle. Give it a rest.

Or maybe, and bear with me here, they might want to aim for a slightly higher ethical standard AND win?  It's not an either/or situation, despite what people like you seem to believe it is.

It's much more than missing the tournament imo. We are not improving as the season progresses, not beating anyone with a pulse, and are getting blown out by top tier teams. This can't sit well with CDC and the BMDs.

I had hoped that things would work out with Terry. CDC was pigeonholed into hiring him after the Elite 8 run. He was drastically superior to Shaka as a coach here, but the wheels are beginning to fall off. I'm not so sure Rodney can make things right again. He did a phenomenal job with Beard's players. With Disu gone a glaring weakness really began to show this season. Shedrick is a decent bench player, but he's definitely not a starter and it shows. Tre Johnson is going to be a one and done his year here will end up being wasted. The team is headed towards missing the tourney entirely. I can't see any big upsets being pulled off after what I've witnessed up until this point. I'm not even gonna blame Terry for this, it's all on that colossal moron Chris Beard for getting tangled up with a whack job.

So... your reason / excuse for keeping a man who choked a woman is that someone else will give him a chance.

Ah, nevermind... I was going to go on about ethics, but.... Nope.

Somebody up thread mentioned that we don’t have a point guard and referenced our poor assist numbers. Consider that both of our point guards are averaging well under their historical assists per game.

Jordan Pope - 2024: 3.4, 2025: 1.8
Julian Larry - 2024: 4.8, 2025: 3.8

Our offensive system is garbage. I blame Frank Haith as much as Rodney. What a terrible hire that turned out to be.

I have a dream that one day college coaches would get performance based contracts instead of ridiculous guaranteed ones based on what they did in the past.

Interesting choice when talking about a extremely corrupt college athletics climate in a country that just inaugurated a convicted felon and insurrectionist today. Ethics has left the building in this country, if it ever was really here to begin with.

Like I said, if they want to compete for titles they need to get on the same level. If they don't, that's fine, but then we need to temper expectations to just being happy to make the tournament in men's basketball.
