Fire Rodney Terry

I can't help but wonder what are the Texas basketball aspirations.

If at best, we hope to compete for an occasional conference championship and more often than not, fail at that .. then keep him.

However, if our aspirations are consistently a deep run in the tournament with a realistic chance of playing for a championship ... Coach Terry is not our man. Not even in the same zip code as who we need.

Now, he is not Coach Potato bad.

But to believe that Coach Terry will lead our proud university to relevancy in the tournament is idiocracy.

Texas ranks in the top 15 of all time wins in men’s college basketball.

This program isn’t some bottom dweller. Texas has everything we need to contend for a FF every other year. There’s no reason the same yearly goals for other top sports at UT shouldn’t also be the goals for Texas basketball.

the first half of the arky game was quite possibly the worst basketball I've seen since my kids played at age 6. atrocious on every level. we can argue what is the higher end range for Texas men's basketball but I think we can all agree the target for mens basketball should be waaaaaaaay higher than this crap.

at this point there’s no reason not to trust cdc’s judgement when it comes to evaluating his current coaches and then replacing them with better ones. i have total faith in CDC.

No doubt no one has rooted harder for RT to succeed than CDC. But you know he’s been prepared for a change.

Above all else, what I'm hoping for is another long drawn out discussion about whether CDC had to hire Rodney Terry when we made that tournament run.

Hey can we discuss his record at Fresno State and UTEP and whether that would have been good enough on its own to get hired at Texas absent Chris Beard going Wayne Brady and having to choke a b....?

Not sure we've covered that yet

Agreed, my eyes were bleeding. Turned it off at half...it was not a tough decision and had little doubt about the outcome.

our ball handling and passing is just fucking poor.  it may not always result in a turnover but every little thing is a struggle against any pressure and takes us out of whatever little offense we do have.  We hardly ever run any back cuts to help with it as well.  just another sign of a poorly drilled team.

arkansas had 8 steals and 7 blocks last night. they had our number and we did nothing to switch up, just kept on playing loose with the ball, not matching genie aggression, and driving to the rim over and over and over only to get our shit swatted, never adjusting to a drive and kick, or thinking to head fake and try and get the defender off his feet.

basically, we just do what we do (which is mostly player-led street ball on offense) and we’ve got no counters or adjustments. if you can slow down or stop that, we’re cooked.

also, it was scary how much we needed shedrick last night. we were a totally different team with him on the floor, his return to the game is what sparked the attempted comeback. being that dependent on kadin shedrick in order to compete vs a physical team is uh…not good.

We rank 14th in turnovers per game - https://www.ncaa.com/stats/basketball-men/d1/current/team/217

Keeping turnovers to a minimum is one of the things we actually do well on offense

i’ve posted this before, but the two tenets of an RT team are 1)they don’t turn the ball over (we did last night and you saw what happened), and 2)they don’t defend the three point line (you see the wide open looks we give up every game). on nights like last night where we are turning the ball over, it can get ugly, especially since our bench seems to have no idea how to adjust when the players are having an off night.

Yep, that was an unbridled atrocity. Zero focus. Zero intensity. Zero interest. Zero coaching, especially.

Terry: "I didn't do a great job of having my guys prepared to handle the kind of pressure we were going to be facing right off the bat. Give them a lot of credit for the way they played tonight."

What the fuck? Did no one on your staff watch what happened in Lexington Saturday night? And what Arkansas was doing to UK as soon as it crossed mid court?

Holy shit.

That is why I said it may not always result in a TO.  we only had 11 TO's last night which only a little above our average. They did have 7 blocks.

IMO, our passes are lazy, not crisp and in the right spot, we dribble out on the perimeter a lot but when we get in traffic we are pretty bad.

we don't get pressured much but when we do it is ugly and our offense(what little we have) turns into jelly...

Is anyone on here still defending RT?

Don't think so. Myself and some others have the opinion of "let the season play out and see what happens," but I don't think anyone is saying RT is the guy for Texas and we're making a big mistake if the right replacement is available and we let him go (absent a surprise Sweet 16 or better run).

Unfortunately for RT Sark has raised the bar pretty high in terms of our expectations of what a coach can do.

All that said I think it will still be pretty hard to fire him if we make the tournament this year, which I fully expect us to do. My guess is he gets one more year in that case, but who knows?

As we saw with Shaka CDC may be working behind the scenes to both get the right replacement and find a nice landing spot for RT so they can say it was a mutual parting of ways.

there’s at least one guy who still keeps coming into this thread getting mad that people are talking about firing RT.

edit: I can see now that he’s in here claiming that he does not defend RT. Post 3013 and all ensuing and previous posts of his in this thread would beg to differ

Yeah dude the post that ends "JFC people just let the season play out and see what happens" is way different than what I just posted..."Myself and some others have the opinion of "let the season play out and see what happens,""

You really got me there! What a genius level intellect and a guy who is definitely not trying to argue for the sake of arguing.

that’s what the mizzou game was like. that’s been the only game i’ve caught live so far this year and it was just so dead in there with all of the empty possessions where the ball sticks somewhere for 15 seconds, nobody moves, and we end up with some terrible, off-the-dribble fade away jumper. we actually won the game, but it was truly one of the most unsatisfying games i’ve ever watched in person. my friend who i went with and i both left the arena with a bad taste in our mouth. it was just ugly and uninspiring.

Maybe not. Maybe it just gave Drake's Ben McCollum three more years to build his resume for a solid run at Texas. I understand why some of our fans might be leery of another guy from a mid-major, but this one really can coach. I'd gladly take my chances with him.

Decent resume... thx for comments on Ben

I will continue to do my best to ignore him

Unclear why he can’t just put me on ignore and not respond to my posts or try to engage with me

that 7 foot 2 dude forced us to hesitate/alter path A TON on the drive.  many times he didn't really have to do anything, just had to be in the vicinity and we bailed.  must be nice.
