Bro you have no idea how fast the ladies drop their panties when you hit them with a "I said RT wasn't good enough for Texas 2 years ago to my Internet friends. Just look at his record at Fresno State and UTEP!"

You need a towel to mop up after you hit them with that line.

Bro, your mental gymnastics on RT is amazing. You declared a personal crusade two years ago on whoever said he would not work out, especially derka, and now that you have been proven an idiot, you still can't accept the fact that you lack average intelligence.

I am glad you are "keeping an open mind" now, but iirc you didn't have a similar open mind to our argument back then. I am just amused that so many didn't see it coming. Eat your crow now, damn it!

I'm not eating crow about something I've been reasonable about the entire time. I think I overly hyped RT up some offseason because the negative energy had become a beating. Outside of that I've always seen him as a flawed HC who could potentially still make it work.

Also - last I checked Texas is still playing basketball.

I'm not giving up on these kids quite yet - as fucking horrendous their showing against Arky in the first 30 minutes was.

This sounds good as a business trope but I don't think it's true here.  Otherwise you'd fire him now.   UT stands for class and treating people with  dignity.   We don't fire people before they've essentially fired themselves.   I realize you were responding to the thought that he might earn another year by winning a tournament game.  It could happen, but we shouldn't just fire him now or at the end of the regular season to prevent it from happening.  You do the adult thing.  Evaluate him at the conclusion of the entire season.

Especially in a sport like this...

This isn't a 3-6 college football team.

Mine is Quinn is a pussy! But I have a lot of personalities to juggle so I might also be a fire RT guy

Don't think so. Myself and some others have the opinion of "let the season play out and see what happens," but I don't think anyone is saying RT is the guy for Texas and we're making a big mistake if the right replacement is available and we let him go (absent a surprise Sweet 16 or better run).

Unfortunately for RT Sark has raised the bar pretty high in terms of our expectations of what a coach can do.

All that said I think it will still be pretty hard to fire him if we make the tournament this year, which I fully expect us to do. My guess is he gets one more year in that case, but who knows?

As we saw with Shaka CDC may be working behind the scenes to both get the right replacement and find a nice landing spot for RT so they can say it was a mutual parting of ways.

Nah, Terry would need a miracle run in the tournament to survive.  Tom Herman got kicked to the curb after 7-3 and a bowl victory.  RT is basically Tom Herman sans the personal drama.

Lmao I almost replied to that with something about the constant Texas QB bitching.

Well done.

Texas football is not Texas basketball.

And Herman - like you said - got fired in part because he was an asshole.

I have never said he should be let go before the end of the season.  I don’t think I’ve  seen anyone even seriously suggest it.

I think it would be cool if we had a coach whose team played hard and smart even as they went through the growing pains that come with NIL/portal era roster churn. Throw in a consistent/identifiable offensive philosophy and that’d be damn near mind blowing.

I’d rather not have to watch a team get blown out playing inconsistent, ugly basketball and spend the season hoping they get it together in time for a tourney run.

Thank you for taking such an interest in me and my posts. I'm flattered.

Firing Terry midseason would be moronic. You don't do that unless you are backed into a corner due to off the court issues (see Beard).

Even after the season, I wouldn't fire Terry unless we had someone that is a step change better guaranteed to take the job.  I don't want someone who is going to take us from top-30 KenPom to top-20.  Because we will be right back to replacing that person 5 years from now when we are trying to get to the top-10.

There are a ton of coaches that are "better" than Terry, but there aren't too many who are a step-change better.

Why? Mid season firings are becoming more and more common, especially if major jobs are opening and you want to get a jump on the candidates you have in mind. Does it make you feel better that we don’t fire mid season?

I was speaking with a friend of mine who is tied in to Indiana and (it probably isn't a secret), IU is going to be firing its basketball coach so they will be looking for a replacement as well.

It’s not a secret. It’s already been announced Indiana is moving on at season’s end lol

They're in love with Chris Beard since his quote at halftime against Kentucky that referenced Bobby Knight.

I would bet almost anything Beard is not the coach at Ole Miss next season.

Not sure about Otzelberger at ISU; he played there and calls it home.
I kind of like a couple of Big West coaches:  Russell Turner at UC Irvine and Joe Pasternack at UC Santa Barbara.
Sean Miller is a proven top coach.

TJO didn’t play at Iowa State, his wife did.

And other jobs open and his guy gets taken by another program?

He can close the deal before the season is over and just keep it under wraps.

The first reason not to fire him midseason is the team is currently around 30th in the nation in KenPom, very likely to make the NCAA tournament, and has the potential to win some games in the tournament

You know, objective reality and not your subjective feelings

They’ll also go after May and probably call TJO.

EDIT: they’ll first try like hell to get Brad Stevens.

Brad Stevens? Is that before or after Jay Wright and Nick Saban turn down the job?

If you actually think through this, you’ll understand why Indiana calling Brad Stevens is more logical than [insert random team here] calling Brad Stevens.

That doesn’t mean he will take it, but this is an understandable connection.

Reality is he fucking sucks at coaching and needs to be fired.

I am not advocating for a mid season firing but the last time we did that, it worked out quite well. Teams can sometimes play harder for the interim guy to prove a point, I guess.

I am also 100% team Tommy Llyod unless CDC has a better guy in mind. I have complete faith in CDC to get the next hire right.

Unless you think he interviewed and offered Bowman or Schaefer within 1 day of Reese’s second retirement or Aston’s dismissal, the man has a plan. It Was, what, 5 days between Shaka announcing he was leaving and Beard being hired?

Oh sorry I thought you meant Texas, not IU. My apologies.

Yeah that makes some sense but I think he already turned them down before they hired the current coach.

Yeah, and it doesn't seem like he wants back in to coaching. But wtf do I actually know on that...

I don't get the math but this seems accurate.

This collective fan base brain is going to be fried if we win 2 or more games in March..

x/post-

i’m very much enjoying this game. both teams are really going at it, and unlike the arkansas game our guys are giving just as much as they’re getting. this is the version of the team that we need to see consistently in order for RT to save his job. if we could play with this aggression and confidence (and again, not to mention swagger) every game out then i don’t think anyone here would have a problem retaining RT. it’s when you have one game like this and then a brain dead, spiritless performance like the one against arkansas that you’re too inconsistent to be kept on.

took like 15 minutes for this team to go back to being brain dead and spiritless. from up 10 to scoring two points in like 6 minutes and losing by 8. way to go guys. 🙄
